Labrador Retrievers One of the most popular breeds all around, we have documented Labradors elsewhere as the best dog to have if you're looking for a date, the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the more popular breeds for service dogs. For a family, there's hardly a better choice. Labradors love to please their humans, being playful, protective, loving, and reliable. There's nothing that a Lab loves more than to show off by learning a new trick, even if they manage to learn that new trick before you've taught it to them. They are canine 'Einsteins'. (Less)

Lab    Age: Puppy

Chief is a older lab mix puppy that has shown up in our yard. He is very sweet and plays well with both small and large dogs. We do not have a fenced in yard and already have 3 dogs and two cats and cannot take in another. He needs a good, safe home where he can be loved. He is very sweet and comes when called. I will not let him go just to a 'good home' though. We will need to meet and let him be introduced to any other pets you have. Also, a recommendation from your vet would be preferred. He is such a good dog that I want to ensure he goes to an equally good home.

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Delilah and I am the sweetest little girl. I was rescued from a shelter in Albertville, AL and am staying with my foster mom. I think I'm 7 months old and still act like a puppy every now and then. I weigh about 35 pounds and they don't think I'm going to get much bigger. I have quite the figure. I'm short and squatty and my foster mom giggles sometimes just looking at me. She loves me a whole lot but she can't keep me. I get along great with her 2 dogs and cat. I like to be around kids too. I prefer a slow introduction to new dogs as I can get overwhelmed with too much activity. I tend to get along with more ... (Read More)dominant dogs but I can adjust to any personality. I've almost got the potty training down but I still have accidents every now and then but I get better every day. My foster mom tells me that I'm very smart. I love to go on walks and watch the squirrels. I love people! I want to be around them and give them kisses. I'm a cuddle bug and I promise you'll never wake up in a bad mood again! I have pretty low energy for a puppy but I still love to act silly and play with my furry friends. I just want to be in a home where I can be loved and I would really like to have a playmate. Am I the dog for you?? You won't be disappointed, I promise!!! If you are interested in adopting me: 1) Write down my Animal ID # . 2) Make sure to ... (Read More)mention Animal ID # when visiting or calling. 3) Remember all adoptions stop 30 minutes prior to closing time. 3) You will not be allowed to place a hold on me. 4) I cannot be shipped to you. 5) Before adopting me, you can spend time with me outside or in a meet and greet room. Please ask for assistance. 6) We take cash, checks, debit cards, VISA and Mastercard as a method of payment. **IMPORTANT: Huntsville Animal Services cannot guarantee that I will still be available for adoption as we do not hold animals for anyone under any circumstances. Animals are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. You may want to call and ask if I am still available prior to visiting the shelter. When you adopt me, I will stay at the shelter and be taken to the veterinarian of your choice where I will be spayed or neutered before going to my new home. If I am already spayed or neutered, I can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), a collar and personalized ID tag. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every animal you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive. ADOPTION FEES Dogs: $80 - 170 - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention; purebred dogs and puppies tend to cost more and dogs that have been in the shelter longer will probably cost less. Cats: The shelter is currently running a $35 special on cats. (regularly $80) - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, feline aids/leukemia testing, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention LICENSE FEES $10 - 1 year license $35 - Lifetime license EVERY ADOPTER RESIDING IN THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, AL WILL BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE ONE OF THE ABOVE LICENSE OPTIONS AT TIME OF ADOPTION OPTIONAL SERVICES $10 - Heartworm test. Blood test known as the 'snap test' that shows when heart worm antigens are present in the blood. $20 - Microchip. Another line of defense to help you get your pet back in the event he/she is lost. This is especially recommended for those pets known to climb fences, chew collars/tags, etc. Start your new pup out right by gentle training and socialization. If you confront a behavior problem you are not sure what to do about, Laurel Rose is a dog trainer in Huntsville who has offered to meet with people who adopt dogs from the Huntsville Animal Shelter for a free evaluation. Phone is: (256) 890-1234. One of the most popular breeds all around, we have documented Labradors elsewhere as the best dog to have if you're looking for a date, the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the more popular breeds for service dogs. (Less)

I have pretty low energy for a puppy but I still love to act silly and play with my furry friends. I just want to be in a home where I can be loved and I would really like to have a playmate.     Pilgrim has been at the shelter for about 4 or so years, after being saved from being put to sleep. He has put on a bit of weight at the shelter during his time here, or you could say he has had a few too many Thanksgiving feasts... But he would love to join your family (and family table!) He is a handsome and filled out 4.5 to 5.5 year old boy that certainly has some lab in him. Come visit and he may steal your heart (or your lunch!) He is very handsome, and we think he could be a melting pot of a lab, kuvasz, golden retriever, and chinook.

ocky was nearly starved to death. He was living outdoors in filth with no shelter during harsh winter months. Luckily one of our volunteers was able to save him. Ever since we have taken Rocky into our care he has flourished in every way! Rocky however did get diagnosed with heart worms, but has since been put on treatment and is doing just fine. Now-a-days it's not a death sentence unless it goes untreated and as a rescue we always fully vet all our dogs and Rocky will be fine in no time at all.     Hi there.....my name is Kipper....but my friends call my Kip....I'm a handsome, 4 month old Lab mix who was rescued from a hoarder. All my siblings got sick after they were rescued but I didn't. I must be the strong one in the group. I finally got to rejoin my siblings after 2 weeks and boy have we been having a good time. I love to run.. My foster Mom often makes reference to Forest Gump but she says, 'Run Kip, Run'....I enjoy playing with all my toys especially my stuffed raccoon. I haven't seen any real raccoons but there is this pesky little squirrel who sits in the tree and talks to me. Of course being a gentlemen, I respond back ... (Read More)by barking at him. I am up to date on my vaccinations and weighed 21 pounds at my last Vet visit. He says I'm going to be a big boy when fully grown. I do have a softer side and enjoy crawling up in my foster Mom's lap and getting a little one on one time with her. I'm very affectionate and sweet. Everyone loves my black nose and black around my eyes. They say I'm handsome. (Less)

I am up to date on my shots and have already been to the doctor so I won't have any puppies when I grow up. I love to play and sleep and then play some more! Can I ...     I am a very sweet girl who was found as a puppy wandering the streets. Someone quickly fell in love with me and took me home, but due to some unforeseen circumstances could not keep me and had to return me to the rescue group where I have been living for the past year. I love to play with other dogs, but i can get rough and loud, but it's all talk. I do not do well with small dogs or cats!! I am a very good girl and know some commands but am a little stubborn so you will have to work with me some more so that I remember what I am supposed too. I am currently about 2 1/2 years old and would love to find my forever home.
