Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered

Meet Marley. He is a lab mix. Unsure of what he is mixed with, but possibly Blue Heeler. He is very intelligent and loving. He can be somewhat dominant, therefore does not need to be around other large dominant dogs. He is fine with smaller dogs that are dominant (he just ignores them). He comes from the same home as Ranger (also posted). Marley wants to be where you are. If you are inside, he is happy lying by your side. Outside he will stand in awe or play his little heart out. He is very intelligent and catches on quickly. Marley would do good in almost any home. He is great with children other dogs (non-dominant large dogs, or any small ... Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered

Meet Ranger. He is between 1 and 2 years old. Very sweet, loving, and intelligent. He is on the submissive side. He does well with all dogs and people, including children. Actually, he loves children more than adults. He would do great in any family. Unsure of how he is with cats. He appears to be full-blooded black lab, from his looks and temperament. However, he may be a mix. Though he is still a puppy, he is not rambunctious and overwhelming like most puppies. In the house, he is very calm and just wants to lie by your side. Outside, he is excited to play.

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic)

Toby is a delightful, smart, energetic, sweet goofball who wants a forever human. I found him running late at night down a busy road and was never able to find his owner. He was chipped from a shelter adoption, but the contact info was bad and what I found out from trying to track the owner down wasn't good. He is crate-trained, but needs a house with a fenced yard or, if in an apartment, a human that likes to walk or run most every day. He is mostly very good on a leash, but will get a little excited when he sees another dog. When I found him, he was incredibly skinny, had a few spots of demodetic mange, and had worms, but he has been ... (Read More)eating very well, has been gaining weight, has been treated for the worm, and is wrapping up his treatment for the demodetic mange spots (they're growing back nicely). Please know that a high percentage of animals ... (Read More)in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every dog you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive toward adults. As far as child or cat aggression, that is not a standard test that can be performed on every animal. If you are concerned about either aggression, it is suggested that you visit the shelter in person and ask a shelter attendant for assistance. We do allow you to bring pets in to see if they get along before adopting, and if you elect to do so, make sure your pet(s) are COMPLETELY up to date on vaccinations, especially bordatella (kennel cough). ADOPTION FEES Cats seven months and older are currently $35 as a special Spring and Summer promotion that includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, feline AIDS/LEUKEMIA test, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. Kittens six months and younger are $50. Dogs are $35 for adults, $50 for puppies. This includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, canine heart worm test over six months of age, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. LICENSE FEES $35 - Lifetime license not included in the adoption fee PER CITY ORDINANCE, DOMESTIC ANIMALS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A CITY LICENSE TAG WHILE RESIDING IN THE CITY LIMITS OF HUNTSVILLE. It is recommended and the responsibility of the adopter to put their new pet on their choice of heart worm and flea/tick prevention within 30 days of adoption in order to ensure a happy and healthy pet.     If you are interested in any of the FFOS pups, the first step is to fill out an application, completely at http://ffosk9rescue.org/adoption-application or if you are working with our wonder partner Vermont Dog Rescue, fill out an application at www.vermontdogrescue.com VDR is our partner rescue and helps place many into loving homes. Diamond is a super sweet 10-12 month, 30 pound old lab mix. Spayed, UTD on all shots, HW negative, on monthly preventatives. She is great with all the other dogs in her foster home, however, we are not sure about cats. She was happy and wiggly when she met some kids at our vets office. She rides well in a ... (Read More)car, is crate trained, and does well in the house. Diamond is a very affectionate and playful, she would be a great family pet. Her adoption fee is $200. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) group, so all funds go right back into the care of these and future wonderful pups. OUT OF STATE adoptions are possible. If you are working with Vermont Dog Rescue, the additional fee is $200 to cover transportation costs and the health certificate, which is required to cross state lines. Transport to other areas is dependent on location, fees and availability of independent transport services. You are always welcome to pick up your new family member. We are a home based, not for profit organization in Northeast Alabama that helps place forgotten and unwanted pets in forever homes. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)3 organization. We rescue pets from high kill shelters, prior to being euthanized, as well as strays, and unwanted pets. We do not adopt to 'outside only' homes. Nor do we adopt to anyone who wishes to crop, dock or do any other alterations, except spaying and neutering their pets. We highly recommend positive training methods once pets are placed in forever homes. All pets are completely vetted, up to date on all vaccines and given rabies certificates. ALL PUPPIES NOT SPAYED OR NEUTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION WILL REQUIRE A SPAY NEUTER CONTRACT SIGNED AND DATED BY ADOPTERS. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Sam and Amos are some of the SWEETEST dogs you will ever meet. They will love you with their all if they are given the chance. They are brothers who love each other more than they love most things in life. Some more of their favorite things include, but are not limited to: *lounging in-doors most of the day *wrestling with each other every once in a while *chasing squirrels *being rubbed *and eating, of course We have come to the very difficult decision to re-home our dogs due to one of our dogs (Amos) showing aggression to our 3 year old. We know that it is due to the pain of arthritis and the rambunctious nature of our son. However, we ... (Read More)also have a 5 month old who has yet to go through her rambunctious stage and we can't risk keeping him. And like I mentioned earlier, these dogs love each other so much. It is our goal to find them a home together, a home without young children. If we can't find a home for them together, then we hope to find a home for Amos. If we can't find him a loving home then we will have him euthanized to spare him the emotional pain of living in a shelter. A few more details on the dogs: *They will be 7 years old in August *We have their dog beds, blankets, bowls, a kennel, and some medication (for Amos) that we will provide for them'|along with their vaccination records of course. *We have Amos on Dasuquin for his joints, as well as Deramaxx (pain med) for his arthritis. Please give me a call if you're looking for two gentle, loving and very loyal dogs'|I'd love to answer any of your questions (Less)

[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] Allie is sweet wonderful dog. She gets along with some dogs not as well with others. She suffered a spinal stroke two weeks ago and her progress is already surpassing Auburn's prediction. However, it's reasonable to assume she will never walk again, paralyzed back legs, and may not ever be able to relieve herself without help. I am willing to help financial resources for an ongoing basis after adoption. I would like to be able to still visit her, unfortunately my career will not allow me to give her the care she needs. I have already purchased a wheelchair for her, orthopedic beds, a help em up ... (Read More)harness, etc. I know her chances of finding a home are slim, but if a dog ever deserved it, it's her. She is still very happy! If someone can care for her she could have a great life, but it's just feasible in a small apartment on the second story of a complex, even if I had time away from work. She still loves to chase her ball in her wheelchair. She does get nervous during storms, but if I'm with her, she's happy curling up next to me during a storm. (Less)

I rescued this sweet girl from my work, but unfortunately I am unable to keep her. I already have 2 large dobermans, and I cannot afford nor do I have space for another dog. If I were in a better situation I would definitely keep her because she is very sweet and good with my dogs. She does want to chase my cats though. She is only 37 lbs currently and has been vet checked and vaccinated. She has not been spayed, but I would be willing to have it done or cover the cost. I'm desperate to find her a good home and I am willing to travel to bring her to a forever home. If you are looking to adopt, please consider her. She would make someone a ... He lives to sniff everything and is so curious a marking of a highly intelligent dog. He would do well with active people since he is so interested in checking everything out. He walks well on a leash and likes to play fetch with balls. Max is approx 1-2 years old, Yellow Lab mix, fully vetted and heart worm negative.     Loves to play fetch and go for walks. He loves people of every age, but he forgets sometimes that he is a 55lb dog. He does not have a microchip. All of his shots are current, flea and tick meds given on time, and I keep him on a multi-vitamin daily, but it's not necessary. He stays in the house when I am home, but in a fenced backyard when I am not. He's stayed overnight in the yard a few times--while I was out of town--and he did just fine. The adoption fee is an offset the cost of all of the items that will come with Bear into your home. Such as: the remaining dog food, food and water bowls, 9 months of Heart Guard, remaining daily ...     My family is moving to England, and with fees and quarantine, plus the lack of room and running space that I so greatly need, I can't come with them. My 8 year old is very sad about this because I sleep with him every night. I love people, but even though I lived with another dog for a year, he kinda bugged me and I haven't liked other dogs since then. I love cuddling on the couch and playing tug of war with my owners. I have been obedience trained but I really need a place to run because I have a lot of energy. My family leaves in a week and a half. I hope someone nice can help me find a home that will love and care for me.

Lab    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Our boy is oh'|Ka'|yo! He makes you sing! Our boy is oh'|Kayo and he is super sweet! Kayo found his way to us while in the middle of no man's land. Kayo has a wonderful and loving disposition, high energy, but yet easy going. He is approx. 2-3 years old and right at 81 pounds or slightly higher. He recently tested positive for heart worms, so that maybe why he took the path that led him to us. Heart worms is not a death sentence unless it goes untreated. As a rescue, we ensure every dog that comes into our program with the condition receives treatment. Kayo is very active and a fun loving people's dog. He does enjoy playing with other ... (Read More)dogs and gets along great with all shapes and sizes, but I don't think it really matters to him whether or not he has one to play with. Kayo is fine with cats. He has a quiet sweetness that is so infectious and he is a big ole baby, he doesn't care if you a big or little person he wants on your lap. Kayo is very strong and does tend to pull when walking him, but it's easily corrected with the right harness. He does however like to jump to get at eye level with you, and for a big dog he can jump pretty high when he's excited. For this reason only, small children are not the best fit as he would knock them over, but he has been much to my surprise most recently extremely careful around them although wants to lay on their lap so a dog as heavy as he is on a little person maybe just too much. Kayo would thrive in an environment where he has a big fenced in yard to run around in, plenty of exercise and family activities, love and attention. He thinks he is a lap dog and will get right on top of you on a couch, so if you don't want a touchy feeling kind of dog Kayo is not for you. He loves to be affectionate period! For sure he does need an active family that is willing to continue his path to greatness by spending lots of time with this boy! Kayo has already learned a few cues, but with continued obedience training amazing is the only word that comes to mind. If you are willing to give Kayo what he needs to thrive he will definitely be an amazing addition. To adopt Kayo get your app in here: http://www.southernskiesrescue.org/adoption-application/ (Less)

(Read More)love for the water. She is housebroken and leash trained. She especially enjoys spending time with you. She is a dog that hangs onto every word you speak and moves her head side to side while you talk to her. She makes funny snorting sounds the trait of the English Bulldog, plus a bit of a clown and walks funny. You cannot help but laugh out loud when you get around her so she is great medicine! She has the shiny beautiful black coat of a lab with a hint of the English Bull dog brindle in places and a small hint of white at the tip of her tail. She has the cutest under bite! Gorgeous in looks and all bubbly beauty in personality! Brianna with the right attention from the right family will flourish to the best friend anyone can hope to have! She is great with other dogs and cats, but is slower to warm up to people, but with trust and the effects of the past far behind her she will gain all the confidence needed to live a well balanced life. She is looking for a family that will give her the time she needs to open up and let them into her world. One that will be caring and understanding to her current situation. Once the flood gates are opened be ready for the best time of your life! Being around Brianna will light you up, put a smile on your face from ear to ear and you will want to dance with her. You couldn't ask for a more loving companion to be at your side. Brianna has not been recently tested again, but is not good with small children because they do scare her so a family with adults and teenagers is preferred to adopt. Brianna will make any family proud to have her as their own we are sure of it! Brianna is fully vetted, heart worm negative, on prevention and micro-chipped. To adopt Brianna get your application turned in: http://www.southernskiesrescue.org/adoption-application/. (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This dog is fantastic with kids and all other animals. She loves to be outside playing with other dogs most of all. I started out fostering BeBe from a Rescue Group. Three years later, I still have her and cannot keep her anymore. She gets out of my fence and animal control keeps picking her up. She is VERY polite and can go anywhere with you with no leash. She is house broken. She doesn't beg for food and doesn't take when it's not given to her. These are qualities that are natural to this dog and were not taught.

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-23-00523Victoria (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. If you are interested in any of the FFOS pups, the first step is to fill out an application, completely at http://ffosk9rescue.org/adoption-application. Victoria is an extremely shy girl that lost out on the touch and companionship of humans at a very young age. She was found running the woods in a small community in Northeast AL It is sad that Vicky never felt the touch, hug or warmth of a human hand until she was 5 months old. She will come close to her humans but she does not want to be coddled, cuddled or held in anyway. She will allow a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. She is NOT aggressive in any shape or form. She ... (Read More)would make a wonder pet if given the chance but needs lots of space. If you are looking for a companion, but not a lap dog, or a dog that wants constant attention, then Vicky is the dog for you. She has to be contained behind a fence or on a leash at all times. Vicky will only be allowed to go to an experienced trainer or behaviorist. Vicky is great with other dogs, she walks well on a leash and she is crate trained. If you would like her to become a house pet then some basic training is all she needs. She will come in the house but only on her terms, and she is by no means a lap buddy that will snuggle on the couch with you. Please consider that she is a good outside dog and would do great on a sprawling ranch or farm where she could be supervised. Victoria is micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $200. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) group, so all funds go right back into the care of these and future wonderful pups. Out of state adoptions are possible, however, you must be willing pay for the health certificate, if necessary and the transport fee. We do not personally transport dogs, therefore, are reliant on independent transport services. There is not always a transport available and it can be costly. You are always welcome to pick up your new family member. (Less)

Hey there, I'm Hitch, a big ol' boy! I'm built like a couple of dog breeds like Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, and German Short Haired, but I prefer to be known as Hitch! I'm probably 7-8 years old, but who says you have to act your age? I'd rather act like a giant puppy than an older gentleman. I love attention and would like to be part of an active family. I can get real excited and forget my size and strength so probably no real little legged family members, but older kids would be great. I don't want to share my new family with another dog, I do okay with other dogs but I can be pushy if another dog tries to steal my spotlight too ... (Read More)much.     Spunky, intelligent, clownish and very outgoing, Blanco has been with since he was a wee puppy, over a year. He's people-oriented, with lots of spirit (and a comedian). Blanco enjoys lounging and stretching his big body in the sun, but he would also love to have a huge backyard to run and play in, or a person that will take him on long hiking adventures. 20 months old, UTD on vaccination, neutered, Blanco appears to be a mix of Labrador Retriever, Vizla, and Springer Spaniel.

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When one thinks of Cocoa they usually think of warm, comforting, snuggling up with a blanket on the couch... and trust us, our loveable Cocoa is no exception. He would just love to snuggle up with his future fur-ever family, cozy as a bug in a rug, getting his belly rubbed and his ears scratched. Don't you want to help this sweet boy live up to his name? Cocoa is about 8 months old, UTD on shots, neuter pending prior to adoption, playful but loving, and available for adoption from Second Chance SHelter in Boaz for a $30 adoption fee. (Cocoa wants us to remind you he is good even in the summer months, unlike his winter beverage namesake ;)
