Rescue Me ID: 17-11-17-00050Avory (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our blushing beauty, Avory, is a striking girl, whom we just plucked from Big City Animal Control, where her owner discarded her because she got too big. We can only imagine how adorable Avory was at 13 weeks old, a highly desirable Chocolate Labradoodle 'designer' puppy. But with little training or leadership, she morphed into a 70 pound force of nature. And therein lies the problem with puppies.... they become ex-puppies. Avory has become a rescue statistic at just 8 months old. She appeared to be shy and fearful in the shelter, but nevertheless, she received great behavior evaluations and was very easy to handle under extreme duress. She ... (Read More)was on her way to the Shelter adoption program, when she came down with the obligatory sniffles, and was rerouted to the euthanasia list. We are thrilled to have her join us. Avory doesn't quite know what to make of the rescue process. She seemed slow to adjust to change, and the trick with her has been first, reigniting her puppy mojo, and then redirecting all of that puppy exuberance into some basic obedience work. It's quite obvious that her former owners had no leadership ability or interest in training, and Avory was allowed to become bored, underexercised and frustrated. Now, she seems to be a bit behind the learning curve on basic obedience and manners. Avory is a striking beauty, with the most spellbinding, tiger-like, honey gold colored eyes. As a Labradoodle, her physique seems Lab-like, but her head shape and coat texture favor the Standard Poodle. Avory's coat has a soft wavy texture, and her coloring is rich mohogany-chocolate. She is a natural athlete, and has a lean, athletic physique that flourishes with a lot of exercise. As a double dose of hardwired hunting dog, Avory needs a job. The best way to channel her work ethic is through retrieving exercises and obedience training. She loves her training sessions and is extremely eager to please. She responds to both praise and treat motivated positive reinforcement, as well as leadership training techniques. After her mental workout, Avory loves to play! Avery would be a fabulous choice for an active single or couple who enjoy outdoor activities. The more exercise she gets the better. A quiet, relaxed home would be ideal for Avory, as she can become a little anxious in the face of chaos. She may be spooked by the frantic movements of toddlers, but she would thrive in an active, but laid back family, with older kids, who have been taught to handle a dog gently. Avory enjoys the company of other friendly dogs, and she has made fast friends with our Irish Setter, Remington. They play constantly, and manage to tire each other out. Remy has helped Avory find her inner puppy, and that process seems to have healed some old wounds. Avory could easily join a multi-dog home, with dogs who are well trained, but she may pick up bad habits from a resident wild child. We have not tested her with cats, but she might chase and push to play beyond a cat's comfort level. Avory needs ongoing work on manners and obedience basics with adopters willing to work with an older puppy. She is house trained and crate trained, but adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in excellent health, and is at an ideal lean body weight of 70 pounds pounds. She has been recently spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, parvon parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped. If you are interested in Avory, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. (Less)

Hi! I'm Juju and I'm a 9-year-old lab mix that weighs about 40 lbs. Despite having a rough start on life, I still love people - I'm especially gentle with little kids! I'm a very calm and relaxed dog, so I don't require much activity. My favorite thing to do is curl up with a bone next to you and just hangout. When I have a little time to warm up, I also love to hang out with other dogs! I'm GREAT in my crate and I'm totally housebroken. I'm great on a leash and I never pull - I just stay right beside you so that you can let me know everything is ok. I'm also very good in cars and usually just go to sleep. So if you're looking for a gentle ... (Read More)soul to give you unconditional love and be your forever buddy, then I'm definitely your girl! I currently live in a foster home in Texas, but transport will be included in the adoption fee and arranged by Rescue Road Trip if you choose to adopt! My current foster is willing to pay for my transportation and will donate $100 gift card per month for my life to ensure that I find the right family! (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Selena's the name, and belly rubs are my game! I am looking for a person/people to adopt and become my BFF/s. Things I enjoy are: Belly rubs, playing outside, being with people, rolling over, napping and just being loved. Do these sound like things you enjoy too? Things I am not so keen on: Small people, you know the ones that can make high pitched squeals or whiney sounds and that move fast. I also am not a fan of cats (see same reasons as little people). I do like other dogs, though I am picky about what crowd I run with, so hopefully we agree on what kind of dogs we like! My current people have shown me that life is good and I am ... (Read More)so excited to get my very own forever family. I am very polite and gentle and I have no problem with going into my crate, or letting you know when I need to do my 'business'. Apparently I am about 5 years old, but when I play I feel like a puppy still...though I guess at 50lbs I would be a very big puppy! I hope that my small intro has appealed to you, and that you will see about taking me home forever. See you soon XXX (Less)

Nico was an owner surrender. He was adopted by a lady with kids from the shelter when he was 4 months old. He was scared after spending all his life in a crate in the shelter. He was not taken out and about to get over his fears. Then the family got evicted and there was no where for Nico to go. Because of his shyness, his chances in a Shelter were slim. So he became a sweet soul! He has come a long way since then and although it does take some time to warm up, he is great with pretty much everyone and everything. Nico is somewhat higher energy and would love an active family! He loves going on hikes and hanging out at the dog park! ... (Read More)He will make the right person an awesome friend! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00078Wednesday (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our stunning Wednesday enters the room like an arctic blast of cold on a hot summer night and grabs your attention! This magnificent one and a half year old, black Labrador Retriever mix came to us from a big city Animal Control facility, where she spent some time after a lackluster owners abandoned her. She was rail thin and gaunt when she entered the city shelter system, and took some time to adjust to her harsh surroundings. When Wednesday came to our Rescue, she was a wild child, a Black Beauty in need of some firm, loving leadership. It was painfully obvious that her owners had missed all of her social development cues, and woefully ... (Read More)neglected her manners and leadership training. Wednesday was as precocious as her Addams Family namesake, and seemed to feel that her opinion was warranted on just about every subject. In no time, Wednesday has developed into a canine thoroughbred, brimming with potential. An energy and personality match is key to Wednesday's happiness. She is a high energy, athletic dog who needs alot of outdoor exercise. She would gleefully keep rigorous pace with an avid runner, hiker or powerwalker, and seems to thrive in the brisk country air. No doubt about it, Wednesday needs an active adopter, but, also one who is extremely proficient in leadership and obedience training. She is not a dog for the casual or inexperienced adopter. Wednesday largely appears to be Labrador Retriever, but we also suspect some Border Collie in her DNA. She is a lean, tall dog weighing 47 pounds, and is extremely graceful and athletic. She runs with great speed, and could be an agility champion. Wednesday has the energy and intelligence that we see in this high strung Herding breed, as well as the mischievious and impertinent tendency that sometimes occurs when Border Collies are under exercised and bored! As a double dose of working dog, Wednesday definitely needs a job, and she is a natural at obedience work. She knows all her basic commands, and has passed many of the Canine Good Citizenship tests. She handles beautifully on lead, and heels nicely. Wednesday still needs some polish on her stranger manners, since she may, on occasion, greet someone rudely, but motivated adopters should be able to work her through any issues by employing her well honed commands. In the right hands, Wednesday will become a fantastic, well behaved companion. Wednesday would fare best in an adult home, with adopters experienced in handling large, active breeds. She would overwhelm toddlers and seniors. She could easily join a multi-dog home, with another active, well trained dog, but sometimes, unruly and ill mannered dogs press her buttons. We have not had her around cats, but she would most likely chase them beyond their tolerance level. Wednesday has respectable house manners and is mostly housetrained. She will need some finetuning on her potty routine as she transitions to a new environment. Wednesday is in good health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed, and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in Wednesday, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738. Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our magnificent Hero needs a hero of his own. This beautiful, robust boy is a victim of circumstances. His doting owner lost her home, and desperately tried to find housing to accommodate her beloved companion, whom she had raised from a pup. Hero's Mom took up temporary residence in a local motel, until she could get her bearings, but Hero was booted out by the motel manager. After a tearful goodbye, sad Hero was left in the care of a well-respected town shelter, who pled his case to us. Hero appears to be a handsome mix of black Labrador Retriever and Border Collie. He has the physique and color of a black Lab, and the white tuxedo ... (Read More)markings and black speckled white socks that suggest Border Collie. At 50 pounds, Hero has a solid, muscular build, and yet is easy to handle on lead. As a combination herder and retriever, Hero loves the outdoors, and has a hardwired work ethic that needs to be channeled through exercise and obedience work. Hero sometimes seems unsure of his place in the world, and needs to join a home with a strong pack leader, willing to provide the structure that he needs to to thrive. Hero gives the impression of caution at first, as he sizes up strangers, but warms quickly to a gentle touch. Adopters will need to be comfortable putting boundaries between Hero and strangers: he can become overzealous in guarding his person. He would be the ideal watchdog. Hero seems subdued and intimidated at times, in the midst of our busy foster home, and we sense that a quiet, adult home would suit him best. He is not a big fan of change, and a steady, quiet routine will serve him beautifully. Hero would be the ideal walking or running companion for an active single or couple. He loves the outdoors, can keep a brisk pace on a hike, and longs to make a one-to-one connection with a strong human personality. Hero could easily join a multi-dog home with another well-trained, calm dog, but cats are a definite no-go. Hero has progressed nicely in his basic obedience training. The obedience work serves him as a job he can take pride in, and he performs the commands beautifully, either for praise or treats. Obedience training is key to providing the working breeds with the purpose and focus that they need to live happily in a domestic lifestyle. Hero has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should have appropriate patience, and expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during Hero's transition to a new home. He is in excellent health, and is at an ideal lean body weight. He has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed, and has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.     Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
