Rescue Me ID: 17-09-18-00055Cain (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our magnificent Cain is a sage soul, who found himself homeless, at the age of three, after a lackluster owner dumped him in New York Animal Care and Control. Not much of a reason was given for the betrayal. Cain had a typical reaction to his dramatic misfortune: he was frightened, mistrustful, and shut down in the face of Shelter chaos. He did not cooperate too well with his Veterinary 'poke and prod.' We were happy to invite this sad soul to join us, as soon as we saw his incredibly forlorn mug online. Cain appears to be mostly Rottweiller, with a bit of Black Lab in the DNA mix. He is an enormous, powerful dog at 90 pounds, and has a ... (Read More)muscular build, with a massive Rottweiler head and stance. His coloring is Lab-like blue-black, with a swath of white down his chest. At first meeting, Cain seems shy and reticent, but he warms quickly once he connects to a loving human vibe. He has adjusted beautifully to foster care and has been a joy to handle. Cain loves people, and is generally friendly to strangers, once he warms up, but would be happiest in a quiet adult home, where he can chill out. Cain seems genuinely rattled by a lot of chaos, so we want to avoid a hectic home with small children, and lots of comings and goings. He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well-trained, calm dogs, and may coexist with cats, although a safe cat introduction would need to be conducted to be sure. In temperament, Cain seems to be pure Rottweiler, a lovable, courageous, devoted protector. He would be the ideal K9 companion to an active single, or couple, who have large dog, or Rottie experience. Powerful breeds like Rottweilers, that have a work ethic hardwired into their DNA, require purposeful lifestyles that challenge their mental and physical faculties. They also need a strong leader to teach them Canine Good Citizenship. Obedience work is an excellent way to build a strong bond with a newly adopted Rescue dog, but is also helpful in channeling a hardwired work ethic into purposeful activity. Cain is an obedience natural, and seems to love the daily workout. He knows all of his commands, and willingly works for treats or praise. A motivated adopter could easily take cane all the way to Canine Good Citizenship. Cain is in excellent health, has been neutered, and is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, adrenovirus, distemper, coronavirus, leptopirosis, canine influenza, and bordatella. He has been dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Cain, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com, or call/text Denise at cell: 860-908-9738 for an adoption application. (Less)

Hi! I'm Zelda and I'm a 1-year-old Dalmatian mix that weighs about 30 lbs. I am the happiest girl you'll ever meet and I'm full of love - my tail is always wagging and I love to play with other dogs or give gentle kisses to people. I'm good in cars and walk well on a leash. At night, I sleep on my dog bed and I'm 100% house trained (so no accidents in the house for me!) I'm a really smart girl - I already know 'Sit.' I'm happy to share anything - I'm never aggressive about my food or treats and don't mind if another person or dog takes something from me. I would be happy going on walks and running around, but I'm just as happy curled up with ... (Read More)my bone and hanging out relaxing around the house. So let me know if you're looking for an awesome girl to hang out with and be your forever friend! I currently live in a foster home in Texas, but transport will be included in the adoption fee and arranged by Rescue Road Trip if you choose to adopt! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-16-00197Alex (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our magnificent Alex has the bouyant good nature that attracts Bully breed folks to these lovable high energy scamps. No other dog group has been so overbred, mishandled and maligned as the Bullies, and we are thrilled to have Alex with us, at this young stage of his life, so that we can find his forever home. Three years old, Alex started off his rescue journey as a statistic: just one more homeless stray roaming the mean city streets. He was picked up as a stray and brought to NYC ACC. He has traversed the rescue process with ease, and had displayed great confidence and panache as he has interacted with everyone along the way. His ... (Read More)behavior evaluations were exemplary, and he was adopted through the shelter adopter program, only to return to the shelter within four hours. The adopter's home dog pack refused to accept Alex, and while his behavior remained calm, he was ousted by two Shih Tzus and a Labradoodle. Go figure. Alex joined us over a month ago, along with Tall Man, another large bully, and they quickly became great friends. These dog looks so much alike they could be littermates. Alex appears to be largely black Labrador Retriever due to his girth and height. He is a large strong dog at 66 pounds, with a lean, muscular physique, and floppy Lab ears. He has a large block head head, with a broad skull that suggest some Staffordshire Terrier DNA. He has a wide swath of white, sweeping down his chest that gives him a regal tuxedo look. Alex truly represents the best of beauty and temperament in both breeds. He has charmed everyone he has met, and his professional behavior evaluations have been exemplary. Alex would be a fantastic choice for a Lab or Bully breed lover, who is willing to continue the exercise and obedience regimen that has fostered such great behavior so far. Alex is high energy, and needs vigorous exercise. He is having a blast this summer. Between hiking in the woods, and swimming, we have managed to tire him out! Alex loves to be on the go: the more action, the better. A bored, frustrated Bully will make mischief, to be sure, but in the hands of dedicated breed enthusiasts, who rejoice in their high energy companions, Bullies are Man's devoted BFFs. Alex is an ideal choice for an active single or couple. He is extremely friendly, and good with strangers, but he would likely overpower young toddlers. We haven't had him around cats, but he loves other well mannered dogs. He loves to play with other dogs matched to him for size and energy level, and would be a great companion to another well-trained dog. Alex has excelled at his obedience training and is extremely food motivated. He responds well to positive reinforcement training, and has learned all of his commands, so that adopters will be able to get up to speed with him quickly. He has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters will need to forgive the occasional accident that might aq transitions to a new potty routine, in a new home. Alex has been thoroughly vetted, He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza, coronavirus), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-14-00207Sandy (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our Sandy is a lovely lady who recently joined us from a Town Shelter, where she spent some time after Animal Control officers found her roaming the neighborhood as a stray. Sandy was a favorite among Shelter Staff and Volunteers, but sadly, at 7 years young, Sandy's shelter adoption options were limited. Seems that everybody wants to experience puppy hell, and too few people appreciate the considerable benefits of having an older dog, who is well past the puppy mayhem stage. Sandy appears to be a mix of Belgian Malinois Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. She is a tall, statuesque beauty, weighing 45 pounds. Sandy is a bit underweight due to ... (Read More)a bout of giardia, but has been treated and is gaining back lost weight nicely. She should fill out to 55 pounds or so, through healthy diet and exercise. Her short flat coat is easy to groom, and is mostly russet brown, with cream and black markings on her face and feet. Sandy seems more like a goofy Lab in personality, and she seems laid back, demure, and enjoys the companionship of her people. She seems to have a slight sadness about her, and is likely feeling confused and disoriented with the rescue process. Sandy has a very genial nature. She is a sociable dog, and while she has not had much background in obedience, she has grasped the basics and seems to enjoy the training exercises. She certainly is food motivated, and would be best suited to an adult home with folks not tempted to fuss with her while she is eating. Sandy is easy to walk on lead, and has a moderate exercise level, although that could increase as she gains weight. She would be happy with a few leisurely to brisk leash walks daily, and a game of frisbee. Sandy would be a great choice for a moderately active single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. She could join a multi-dog home with other laid-back, sociable dogs, and she would probably be fine with cats. Sandy is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where her golden years will be spent as the light of someone's life, rather than considered an afterthought. Sandy has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. She is in great health and has been spayed. She is slightly underweight and should be at an ideal at weight of 50 to 55 pounds. We recommend a grain free kibble diet with added Omega fats and nutritious natural treats like pieces of apple, veggies etc. Sandy is in great health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and she has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00078Wednesday (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our stunning Wednesday enters the room like an arctic blast of cold on a hot summer night and grabs your attention! This magnificent one and a half year old, black Labrador Retriever mix came to us from a big city Animal Control facility, where she spent some time after a lackluster owners abandoned her. She was rail thin and gaunt when she entered the city shelter system, and took some time to adjust to her harsh surroundings. When Wednesday came to our Rescue, she was a wild child, a Black Beauty in need of some firm, loving leadership. It was painfully obvious that her owners had missed all of her social development cues, and woefully ... (Read More)neglected her manners and leadership training. Wednesday was as precocious as her Addams Family namesake, and seemed to feel that her opinion was warranted on just about every subject. In no time, Wednesday has developed into a canine thoroughbred, brimming with potential. An energy and personality match is key to Wednesday's happiness. She is a high energy, athletic dog who needs alot of outdoor exercise. She would gleefully keep rigorous pace with an avid runner, hiker or powerwalker, and seems to thrive in the brisk country air. No doubt about it, Wednesday needs an active adopter, but, also one who is extremely proficient in leadership and obedience training. She is not a dog for the casual or inexperienced adopter. Wednesday largely appears to be Labrador Retriever, but we also suspect some Border Collie in her DNA. She is a lean, tall dog weighing 47 pounds, and is extremely graceful and athletic. She runs with great speed, and could be an agility champion. Wednesday has the energy and intelligence that we see in this high strung Herding breed, as well as the mischievious and impertinent tendency that sometimes occurs when Border Collies are under exercised and bored! As a double dose of working dog, Wednesday definitely needs a job, and she is a natural at obedience work. She knows all her basic commands, and has passed many of the Canine Good Citizenship tests. She handles beautifully on lead, and heels nicely. Wednesday still needs some polish on her stranger manners, since she may, on occasion, greet someone rudely, but motivated adopters should be able to work her through any issues by employing her well honed commands. In the right hands, Wednesday will become a fantastic, well behaved companion. Wednesday would fare best in an adult home, with adopters experienced in handling large, active breeds. She would overwhelm toddlers and seniors. She could easily join a multi-dog home, with another active, well trained dog, but sometimes, unruly and ill mannered dogs press her buttons. We have not had her around cats, but she would most likely chase them beyond their tolerance level. Wednesday has respectable house manners and is mostly housetrained. She will need some finetuning on her potty routine as she transitions to a new environment. Wednesday is in good health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed, and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm treatment.     Our magnificent Hero needs a hero of his own. This beautiful, robust boy is a victim of circumstances. His doting owner lost her home, and desperately tried to find housing to accommodate her beloved companion, whom she had raised from a pup. Hero's Mom took up temporary residence in a local motel, until she could get her bearings, but Hero was booted out by the motel manager. After a tearful goodbye, sad Hero was left in the care of a well-respected town shelter, who pled his case to us. Hero appears to be a handsome mix of black Labrador Retriever and Border Collie. He has the physique and color of a black Lab, and the white tuxedo ... (Read More)markings and black speckled white socks that suggest Border Collie. At 50 pounds, Hero has a solid, muscular build, and yet is easy to handle on lead. As a combination herder and retriever, Hero loves the outdoors, and has a hardwired work ethic that needs to be channeled through exercise and obedience work. Hero sometimes seems unsure of his place in the world, and needs to join a home with a strong pack leader, willing to provide the structure that he needs to to thrive. Hero gives the impression of caution at first, as he sizes up strangers, but warms quickly to a gentle touch. Adopters will need to be comfortable putting boundaries between Hero and strangers: he can become overzealous in guarding his person. He would be the ideal watchdog. Hero seems subdued and intimidated at times, in the midst of our busy foster home, and we sense that a quiet, adult home would suit him best. He is not a big fan of change, and a steady, quiet routine will serve him beautifully. Hero would be the ideal walking or running companion for an active single or couple. He loves the outdoors, can keep a brisk pace on a hike, and longs to make a one-to-one connection with a strong human personality. Hero could easily join a multi-dog home with another well-trained, calm dog, but cats are a definite no-go. Hero has progressed nicely in his basic obedience training. The obedience work serves him as a job he can take pride in, and he performs the commands beautifully, either for praise or treats. Obedience training is key to providing the working breeds with the purpose and focus that they need to live happily in a domestic lifestyle. Hero has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should have appropriate patience, and expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during Hero's transition to a new home. He is in excellent health, and is at an ideal lean body weight. He has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed, and has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped. PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Connecticut
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.
