Rescue Me ID: 17-07-16-00331Tallman (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our stunning Tallman is a sage old soul, who at just two years old has really defied the odds. At such a young age, he is a two-time resident of NYC ACC, having been adopted through the Shelter program, and then turning up again as a stray, with no beloved owners to come for him. Tallman was stranded once again at NYC ACC, heading toward euthanasia. The chaos that this young dog has experienced is surely overwhelming, however he has traversed the rescue process twice now with sublime grace. During both NYC ACC stays, he has been designated a 'Helper' dog because of his amazingly calm demeanor and exemplary doggie social skills. Tallman is ... (Read More)really one in a million. There is not a shimmer of snark or malice in this graceful Soul. He loves everyone and everyone loves him. Tallman was a cooperative sweetheart during his vet exam, and SAFER evaluation, earning the top ratings in both areas. Shelter contacts recommended that he could be placed in just about any kind of home with great success. And still, with all the accolades, as well as the outpouring of fan mail from the Internet, Tallman found himself on the Euthanasia list. He was released to us, along with his buddy, Alex, who looks like his litter mate. These big beauties are predominantly black Labrador Retriever, with a healthy dose of Staffordshire Terrier. Tallman is a large, strong dog, and is at a healthy weight of 66 pounds. He has a well muscled physique, but not the bulk that you see in many bully mixed breeds. He is tall, slender, graceful and quite swift in motion. Tallman's presence has a debonair panache, accented by white tuxedo stripe down his chest that gives him an air of sophistication. Tallman has adapted to foster care beautifully and continues to show us a delightful personality and balanced nature. He doesn't have the over-the-top energy that we see so often in other Bully mixed breeds, but has a relatively calm demeanor, and is easy to handle on lead. He would be an excellent choice for a novice Lab or Bully adopter. Of course, Bully mixes are higher energy than most dog breeds, so even though Tallman is at the calm end of the energy spectrum, he still needs sufficient exercise to be happy. Tallman loves to play, and thrives in outdoor activities. He has adapted like a fish to his swimming sessions, and would make a great walking companion. Talman would do well with one to two brisk leash walks each day, plus focussed playtime and obedience work. Tallman is an obedience natural, and could well go on to earn his Canine Good Citizenship Certificate, or compete in obedience competition. He knows all of his basic commands, and is extremely treat motivated. He responds well to all types of positive reinforcement training, and is very well behaved in public. Adopters should continue his program, and develop his full potential. Bully mixes as exceptional as Tallman should be the Breed Ambassadors. Tallman could join just about any kind of home. He is calm, well behaved, and friendly to all. Although he is extremely easy to handle, he may overwhelm toddlers, and cats, but he'd be fine with older children and other well behaved dogs. As an adult dog, Tallman has excellent house manners, and is well past the puppy mayhem stage. He is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as he adjusts to a new routine. Tallman is a calm car passenger, and loves to experience new adventures with his chosen person. The more action he gets, the better he likes it. Talman definitely loves to be the center of attention. Tallman is neutered, has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus) He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Tall Man, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-16-00197Alex (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our magnificent Alex has the bouyant good nature that attracts Bully breed folks to these lovable high energy scamps. No other dog group has been so overbred, mishandled and maligned as the Bullies, and we are thrilled to have Alex with us, at this young stage of his life, so that we can find his forever home. Three years old, Alex started off his rescue journey as a statistic: just one more homeless stray roaming the mean city streets. He was picked up as a stray and brought to NYC ACC. He has traversed the rescue process with ease, and had displayed great confidence and panache as he has interacted with everyone along the way. His ... (Read More)behavior evaluations were exemplary, and he was adopted through the shelter adopter program, only to return to the shelter within four hours. The adopter's home dog pack refused to accept Alex, and while his behavior remained calm, he was ousted by two Shih Tzus and a Labradoodle. Go figure. Alex joined us over a month ago, along with Tall Man, another large bully, and they quickly became great friends. These dog looks so much alike they could be littermates. Alex appears to be largely black Labrador Retriever due to his girth and height. He is a large strong dog at 66 pounds, with a lean, muscular physique, and floppy Lab ears. He has a large block head head, with a broad skull that suggest some Staffordshire Terrier DNA. He has a wide swath of white, sweeping down his chest that gives him a regal tuxedo look. Alex truly represents the best of beauty and temperament in both breeds. He has charmed everyone he has met, and his professional behavior evaluations have been exemplary. Alex would be a fantastic choice for a Lab or Bully breed lover, who is willing to continue the exercise and obedience regimen that has fostered such great behavior so far. Alex is high energy, and needs vigorous exercise. He is having a blast this summer. Between hiking in the woods, and swimming, we have managed to tire him out! Alex loves to be on the go: the more action, the better. A bored, frustrated Bully will make mischief, to be sure, but in the hands of dedicated breed enthusiasts, who rejoice in their high energy companions, Bullies are Man's devoted BFFs. Alex is an ideal choice for an active single or couple. He is extremely friendly, and good with strangers, but he would likely overpower young toddlers. We haven't had him around cats, but he loves other well mannered dogs. He loves to play with other dogs matched to him for size and energy level, and would be a great companion to another well-trained dog. Alex has excelled at his obedience training and is extremely food motivated. He responds well to positive reinforcement training, and has learned all of his commands, so that adopters will be able to get up to speed with him quickly. He has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters will need to forgive the occasional accident that might aq transitions to a new potty routine, in a new home. Alex has been thoroughly vetted, He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza, coronavirus), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped. If you are interested in Alex, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-12-00058Alexandria (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our irrepressible Alexandria is bursting with puppy joie de vivre. Just one year old, she was another homeless stray, who had lost her way in the big city, only to find himself an unwilling guest of the City Pound. When Animal Control Officers found Alexandria, she had been hit by a car and was badly injured. As a powerful German Shepherd mix, with serious injuries, Alexandria was automatically designated for euthanasia. We invited Alexandria into our Rescue, and she arrived pretty banged up. She had a badly injured eye and a fractured leg, amongst other assorted scrapes and scratches. First, Alexandria saw our Ophthalmologist, who put her ... (Read More)on a healing regimen to address the infection in her eye. The cornea was sliced edge to edge, and massive inflammation had set in. She had already lost the sight in that eye. Our goal was to reduce the inflammation, so that she could keep her eye, and we achieved that. Next, our rescue vet repaired her fractured leg. Her leg had been broken sometime ago, so it needed to be reset, and after weeks of difficult restraint, to allow for proper healing, and the dreaded 'cone of shame', Alexandria is finally free and ready for adoption. She has complete mobility, and full use of her leg. Despite her surgery and extended healing period, it's been hard to keep Alexandria quiet. She is an extremely high-energy older puppy, who is still somewhat behind the learning curve on manners and doggie social skills. She would be a great choice for seasoned dog owners who can provide a lot of exercise, and consistent obedience work to keep the puppy mischief at bay. Alexandria is clearly a glorious German Shepherd, likely with a smidge of Labrador Retriever in the mix. She is a large, strong dog at 50 pounds, and she bears the classic German Shepherd black and tan colors, as well as the saddleback markings. Alexandria's head seems Lab influenced, triangular-shaped, and her half mast ears express confusion about whether to stand up or sit down. Her short, flat coat is a breeze to groom. Alexandria has a marvelous, playful personality that lets the world know she's up for anything. She bursts into a room with command presence and exudes confidence. She revels in human touch, and is quite affectionate, although Alexandria also needs human leadership. If allowed to run amuck, Alexandria will become full of herself and try to run the show. Alexandria would be a great companion for an experienced large dog lover, who is comfortable with the exercise and discipline that powerful breeds require to stay balanced. She could easily join the active lifestyle of a single or couple, who can devote an appropriate amount of time to her training and workout regimen. Alexandria would make the ideal walking or running buddy. She thrives on lively outdoors activities. Alexandria could be happy as an only dog, or she could do well in a dog savvy home, with another well behaved dog. She is not well suited to young kids or cats, and may well overwhelm them with her pushy bravado. Adopters will want to channel that vibe into focussed obedience work, and take Alexandria along the road to Canine Good Citizenship. She is a budding obedience Superstar and has already mastered the basics. The daily training sessions give her a powerful mind and body workout. Alexandria is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and Canine Influenza. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Alexandria, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. (Less)

*HELP US HELP HER FIND A HOME...PLEASE SHARE!!! THIS GIRL HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL* *Watch Millie's video! https://youtu.be/j208jNPcd4w * Sometimes we sit and dwell over the unfathomable darkness that seems to suffocate this world. When we see the atrocious acts of evil that are bestowed upon the most innocent creatures, we can't bear it. We can't bear to see the pain, the affects of the trauma, the horrifying 'after' to a 'before' that was once so pure. We can't bear it. We look at Millie and we can't bear it. Born pure and innocent, some disgusting monster took one gaze at this girl and decided he would ruin her. Physically and ... (Read More)emotionally, he decided he would destroy her. And so he did. Or so he thought. Millie is not ruined. Millie is not broken. Millie has been hit, yelled at, bred mercilessly until her body no longer could bear puppies, she faced hell day in and day out for 10 years. For 10 years Millie was made to believe only a world of pain existed. She was made to believe sure, maybe love was real, but not for her. She was made to believe that she didn't matter, that she was her 'owner's' personal punching bag, a money machine'|Millie was made to believe she did not matter and she was not lovable. But did he ruin her? Maybe he thinks he did. But Millie's fire can't be put out, no matter how much darkness he wrapped her in. We are desperately looking for a home for Millie. A special home, where she can be a loved family dog, not a mother. It is her turn to be somebody's baby. We ask that Millie's adopters do not crate her. She can't bear it, not after all those years of living in one. All she wants is to sleep on the couch and be free in a HOME. She is not destructive. We ask that Millie goes to a quiet home where she can live the rest of her golden years with gentle, loving people. If there is another dog in the home, they will have to meet a few times to get used to each other. It's possible, but will take some time. Millie would prefer to be your one-and-only girl. For once she would love all the attention on her - someone who will make Millie the light of their life, as she will do the same for you. Millie has scars, her legs are bowed, causing a slight limp, she also has a cataract, and has severe blunt-force trauma all over her body, according to the vet. But whoever did this to her, did not ruin her. Millie believes that and we hope you do too. All Millie needs is love, a warm bed, and a few good meals a day. She is currently in boarding in Bethlehem, CT. We are begging for the right family to find this girl and take her home. Please'|she deserves this. Please. If you would like to adopt or foster Millie please email priderockrescue@gmail.com and we'd be happy to help (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-14-00207Sandy (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our Sandy is a lovely lady who recently joined us from a Town Shelter, where she spent some time after Animal Control officers found her roaming the neighborhood as a stray. Sandy was a favorite among Shelter Staff and Volunteers, but sadly, at 7 years young, Sandy's shelter adoption options were limited. Seems that everybody wants to experience puppy hell, and too few people appreciate the considerable benefits of having an older dog, who is well past the puppy mayhem stage. Sandy appears to be a mix of Belgian Malinois Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. She is a tall, statuesque beauty, weighing 45 pounds. Sandy is a bit underweight due to ... (Read More)a bout of giardia, but has been treated and is gaining back lost weight nicely. She should fill out to 55 pounds or so, through healthy diet and exercise. Her short flat coat is easy to groom, and is mostly russet brown, with cream and black markings on her face and feet. Sandy seems more like a goofy Lab in personality, and she seems laid back, demure, and enjoys the companionship of her people. She seems to have a slight sadness about her, and is likely feeling confused and disoriented with the rescue process. Sandy has a very genial nature. She is a sociable dog, and while she has not had much background in obedience, she has grasped the basics and seems to enjoy the training exercises. She certainly is food motivated, and would be best suited to an adult home with folks not tempted to fuss with her while she is eating. Sandy is easy to walk on lead, and has a moderate exercise level, although that could increase as she gains weight. She would be happy with a few leisurely to brisk leash walks daily, and a game of frisbee. Sandy would be a great choice for a moderately active single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. She could join a multi-dog home with other laid-back, sociable dogs, and she would probably be fine with cats. Sandy is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where her golden years will be spent as the light of someone's life, rather than considered an afterthought. Sandy has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. She is in great health and has been spayed. She is slightly underweight and should be at an ideal at weight of 50 to 55 pounds. We recommend a grain free kibble diet with added Omega fats and nutritious natural treats like pieces of apple, veggies etc. Sandy is in great health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and she has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00078Wednesday (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our stunning Wednesday enters the room like an arctic blast of cold on a hot summer night and grabs your attention! This magnificent one and a half year old, black Labrador Retriever mix came to us from a big city Animal Control facility, where she spent some time after a lackluster owners abandoned her. She was rail thin and gaunt when she entered the city shelter system, and took some time to adjust to her harsh surroundings. When Wednesday came to our Rescue, she was a wild child, a Black Beauty in need of some firm, loving leadership. It was painfully obvious that her owners had missed all of her social development cues, and woefully ... (Read More)neglected her manners and leadership training. Wednesday was as precocious as her Addams Family namesake, and seemed to feel that her opinion was warranted on just about every subject. In no time, Wednesday has developed into a canine thoroughbred, brimming with potential. An energy and personality match is key to Wednesday's happiness. She is a high energy, athletic dog who needs alot of outdoor exercise. She would gleefully keep rigorous pace with an avid runner, hiker or powerwalker, and seems to thrive in the brisk country air. No doubt about it, Wednesday needs an active adopter, but, also one who is extremely proficient in leadership and obedience training. She is not a dog for the casual or inexperienced adopter. Wednesday largely appears to be Labrador Retriever, but we also suspect some Border Collie in her DNA. She is a lean, tall dog weighing 47 pounds, and is extremely graceful and athletic. She runs with great speed, and could be an agility champion. Wednesday has the energy and intelligence that we see in this high strung Herding breed, as well as the mischievious and impertinent tendency that sometimes occurs when Border Collies are under exercised and bored! As a double dose of working dog, Wednesday definitely needs a job, and she is a natural at obedience work. She knows all her basic commands, and has passed many of the Canine Good Citizenship tests. She handles beautifully on lead, and heels nicely. Wednesday still needs some polish on her stranger manners, since she may, on occasion, greet someone rudely, but motivated adopters should be able to work her through any issues by employing her well honed commands. In the right hands, Wednesday will become a fantastic, well behaved companion. Wednesday would fare best in an adult home, with adopters experienced in handling large, active breeds. She would overwhelm toddlers and seniors. She could easily join a multi-dog home, with another active, well trained dog, but sometimes, unruly and ill mannered dogs press her buttons. We have not had her around cats, but she would most likely chase them beyond their tolerance level. Wednesday has respectable house manners and is mostly housetrained. She will need some finetuning on her potty routine as she transitions to a new environment. Wednesday is in good health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed, and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm treatment. PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Connecticut
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Connecticut Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs.
