FOSTER LOCATION: Kuna, ID Marie is a two-year-old Lab/Pit mix who first arrived in Idaho last October as part of a transfer of dogs to the Idaho Humane Society from a shelter in Texas. She was adopted in January by a wonderful man who understood Marie was a little nervous and insecure and tried very hard to give her time and space to become familiar with and comfortable in his home. Unfortunately, despite two months of his best efforts, Marie remained afraid of her new guardian, so he contacted Fuzzy Pawz for help in finding her a forever home where she could thrive. While she's been in foster, Marie has taught us several things about ... (Read More)herself. First, she gets A LOT of confidence and comfort from having other dogs around, so any potential adopters must have at least one other confident, engaging dog. (Marie has been living with four dogs of varying sizes and energy levels, and honestly seems to love every dog she meets!) Marie's former guardian didn't have other pets and found it very difficult to take Marie on walks or generally leave the house, but if there's another dog there she is much more willing to explore and cooperate. Second, Marie is more comfortable with women - she bonded to her current foster mom fast and hard. For this reason, potential adopters must have at least one adult female in the house - this is sort of a security blanket for Marie. Third, Marie badly wants to trust and love at least some men. While she never grew acclimated to her prior guardian, she did like his father, and in her current foster home Marie has shown strong interest in the adult male. Potential adopters need to understand that Marie will likely not be as initially trusting of or confident with men, and that it could take many months before she fully 'accepts' a new man in her life. They need to be willing to be patient, go at Marie's pace, and not become frustrated or take it personally if Marie exhibits behavior such as barking at them. Although Marie's activity level was non-stop her first few days in foster, once she got comfortable she calmed down and now has a deep appreciation for naps and snuggles on the couch with her foster mom and foster brother pups (and sometimes foster dad too!). However, Marie also still has plenty of puppy in her and enjoys playing with other dogs outside, wrestling on the couch, and checking out toys! Marie is potty trained and crate trained - using a crate in her forever home will be important, as it gives Marie a safe place to which she can retreat if she's feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed. In her foster home, Marie has been sleeping in her crate every night but hasn't chosen to hang out there otherwise. She also tolerates it well if she needs to be left for a few hours, but in her prior home she did begin chewing on the crate so she shouldn't be left for extended periods or put in the crate without first having an opportunity to burn off some energy. Marie has learned 'sit' and has shown she is a fast learner who's eager to please. She hasn't had much experience going out on walks - in her prior home walks were never successful and frequently required 'rescue' from a neighbor with a dog - walks with a trusted human and a dog buddy will be important for Marie as she learns to navigate the world. If you are looking for a new amazing friend and you can give her a bit of time, patience and an infinite amount of love then Marie is your girl. We'd love to talk to you about her just fill out an application: http://fuzzypawzrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application-2/ Marie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped Marie's adoption fee is $75 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-03-19-00238Roscoe (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is a very sweet dog with lots of personality. We have had him since he was 12 weeks old and he has traveled all over with us. It breaks our hearts to have to look for a new home for him, but unfortunately he has not adapted well to a baby being in the home. After a year of trying everything we can think of, he is still very jealous and becomes very anxious/growly around her. Nothing has happened, but it is a very stressful situation that hasn't improved over time. Roscoe very much carries the Border Collie traits. He is very sweet, loyal, smart, and has lots of energy. He knows quite a few commands, does well off leash, and learns ... (Read More)quickly; he is highly food motivated. He is used to getting out to exercise twice a day (walks, fetch, hikes, etc.). He is not a dog you can just take to the dog park and let run around or just stick in the back yard. He is smart and will get bored easily. I would recommend an experienced dog owner as border collies are energetic and have their quirks. In general, Roscoe keeps to himself when other dogs are around and likes to be left alone. He likes some dogs and doesn't like others and he makes that pretty easy to tell. He is not a fan of puppies or certain dog breeds (can be explained further if interested). He will let other dogs know if he doesn't want them in his space. He would do best in a single dog home (though not necessary as he gets along great with some dogs), without small children, and someone willing to meet his exercise needs. It is really hard to write this and think he will no longer be a part of our family as he has been for so long. We will want to meet in person for a greeting/screening with him and any other dogs. He has all needed supplies/toys/food.Roscoe is neutered and up to date on his shots, though he is due again soon. (Less)

She was the most gentle, doting momma we have ever met. She is also the SMARTEST dog we have ever known. Her pups are all home. It is now her turn. She deserves a loving home to encourage her blossoming. Is that yours? Her fan club is willing to transport her all over the PNW.

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-08-00184Purdy (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This sweet girl has been in our rescue and overlooked for more than a year. Purdy will make someone a wonderful best friend! She loves people! She is a bit shy and submissive but warms up quickly. She likes to talk to you and she lets you know that you need to pay more attention to her by giving you a paw or a nudge with her nose for a pet or belly rub. She has quite the personality! Purdy is a 2 1/2 year old American Staffordshire Terrier, Labrador, Malamute and Shepherd mix (we did a DNA on her). She is a very sweet and lovable girl! Purdy likes going for walks and could be a nice hiking partner. She loves hanging out in the house ... (Read More)watching TV with you too. She knows basic commands and really wants to please. Purdy is house trained, good with older kids, she has not been around little ones. Purdy would probably do best as an only dog as she does get a bit possessive about things she doesn't want to share, especially treats. That being said, she plays very well with her foster brother with no issues and has gone to doggy daycare and has had no problem. She seems okay around cats with proper introduction. She is nervous about confined areas so she would not be a dog you can crate. She would love a home with a big fenced yard to play in and a person to love her. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Idaho
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Idaho if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Idaho Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S.
