Karma was grossly overweight when she was dumped at Chicago Animal Care and Control by her 'family.' She has lost 10 pounds in the past five months and while she loves her treats, she also love most other dogs and loves to play outdoors! She would be happiest with someone who enjoys being outside, taking walks and has a yard to play in. She's just not an apartment dog '| she loves the outdoors too much. But, inside the home, she loves to snuggle up to you to be pet and have ... (Read More)her butt scratched. She has beautiful plush dark chocolate fur that is fun to run your hands through. She adores attention and happily rolls on her back for belly rubs. Karma is housebroken and crate-trained. She knows the command sit and takes treats gently. She is currently being fostered in Libertyville, Illinois. To meet and possibly adopt her, please contact Debbie at kruegerd55@gmail.com or 847-571-1860. (Less)

Meet Darling! Young Female Darling was abandoned at a high kill shelter in Alabama that we work closely with. We were able to get her out of the shelter and into an amazing foster home in Alabama where she is waiting for her trip to Illinois and learning about love.     7/18/2013 DOB Meet Judy! Judy is an incredibly sweet, affectionate and loving 50 lb. yellow lab mix. She is a big, strong girl and loves to lean on people ( give hugs because she is so affectionate)! She is wonderfully gentle with young children but since she is a big girl that leans to show love, smaller children need to understand she is showing love, not trying to knock them down...but this is new to her and she is doing well at learning! She does really well sleeping in her kennel/crate at night and when left alone. She is from Alabama and loves being outside. She also loves to look out the windows. Judy is not a fan of cats. They ... (Read More)can't bark and just don't understand her and that makes her not like them very much! So Judy has decided that she would prefer a home without them at all. There are no other dogs in her foster home, but she seems to want to make friends with other dogs when she sees them. She does not jump up on people and she has good table manners..she usually just lies on the floor while we are eating. Though she has learned that food falling from a 2 year old's high chair is yummy! She is also house-trained. Like any dog that has come from the shelter, she would benefit from basic obedience training. She is learning that toys and bones are for chewing and she is responsive when she is redirected to things she can chew. She is a very sweet girl and will make someone a wonderful companion.     [Read About Natural Incontinence Care] Diesel is a very loving and energetic dog. He is great with kids and adults and really loves to play. There is a slight issue with Diesel and that is him going to the bathroom in the house.. He never used to do this but now that it has happened a couple of times it seems to be consistent. I am really hoping to find him a good and loving home with someone who can give him the time and patience he needs.

Hello, I'm searching for help to try and rehome one of my dogs. Any help you can offer would be sincerely appreciated. As you can see from the biography of him below this is not an easy or rash decision on our part. Thank you for your time & any help you can give with our fur-baby. Hello everyone, My name is Forrest, I live in Spingerton, IL. I'm a 7 1/2 yr old, neutered, lab mix (fur mom was a black lab who never saw my dad after I was conceived). My fur mom was a bitter woman who didn't want to be a mother to her kids. After she killed one of my siblings my (hu)mom came to the rescue. We were five days old & my mommy saved us all. ... (Read More) I'm very smart (my obedience instructor called my mom & said he'd never seen a dog change so fast in all his 30+ years of training), I'm housebroken, crate-trained, obedience trained, I like to shake & love attention. I don't like loud noises & I absolutely can't stand my fur brother (just the smell of him makes my hair stand on end). We got along great for 4yrs, we'd play chase, snuggle, share toys & have a great time. I'm not sure why & my parents are dumbfounded because one day my fur brother was acting hyper & I attacked him. My parents have tried so many things over the past several years, but we still can't get along. Unfortunately the other day my fur brother got passed my human brother & we got into another fight. While trying to separate us my human mom & brother were accidentally bitten. Neither one of them blame us, NO WE DID NOT 'TURN' ON THEM. After a long discussion and with an extremely heavy heart my mom has finally realized that I deserve a better life. I shouldn't have to constantly be on edge or separated, I deserve to be an only child in a nice quiet home with someone who will spoil me rotten. My current family loves me very much and this is not an easy decision for any of us. They would like to receive pictures &/or videos of me from time to time just to make sure that I'm happy if my new home wouldn't mind. I'm searching for someone who will give me all their love & a forever home. I need to be an only child in a calm & quiet inviroment.     Hi my name is Bear! I am a sweet black lab/Chow mix an older gal looking for a new home. Through no fault of my own my Mom has fallen on hard times and cannot properly care for me. It's breaking her heart but she must find me a new home so I don't have to go to a scary shelter. She has called many family, friends and rescue groups but they have not been able to help us. I am a good girl but prefer to be the only dog in the house. I haven't been around kitties so I'm not sure if we would get along or not? My Mom doesn't have children and I haven't been exposed to many but I'm sure I would like them. I am spayed and UTD on all my vaccinations. ... (Read More)I don't need training like a puppy I am house broken and know all my basic commands so my manners are very good. Lots of people say black dogs are the hardest to adopt or find new homes but I know the people looking on here are much smarter then that and know black dogs are just as awesome as any other color!! Thanks for reading my info! (Less)

JC came from a high kill shelter, found as a stray. He was a volunteer favorite and quickly made it to the adoption floor. After 5 months on the adoption floor his time was up and the volunteers begged us to take him. Since we didn't have a spot for him at the time, one of our cat fosters volunteered to take him in until we found a place. He was in that home with cats, dogs and teenagers and did great. From there he went to live with a wonderful couple but when they broke up, he became a pawn in the separation and we had to move him out of there. He is currently boarding with one of our trainers and is doing GREAT. He is approximately ... (Read More)3 years old, fully vetted, housebroken and eager to find a permanent family of his own.     Our Baby Boy Baxter was pulled from a local kill shelter. He was found as a stray. The time he spent at AC broke him, he was fine the first few days but his stay took a toll on him. He put his head in a corner and refused to come out or look at anyone. Took a lot of coaxing to get him out of his cage but one we did he was happy to run out of AC. Baxter has separation anxiety - cant be left alone. We are hoping to find a Vet with PTSD and turn him into the ultimate therapy dog.     Coco was found in an abandoned building. She was pretty sick and there was evidence that she had puppies but they were gone by the time she was found. She has since been fully vetted, had some obedience training and lived with a family until recently. Sadly their dog kept attacking Coco, we pulled her the minute we found out. Despite her rough past, this girl is super sweet. She loves people and has lots of love to give.     Introducing Harley - About 8-12 months old, about 50lbs Just like his name, he Lives With Conviction! He is all boy and just like most teens is both mischievous and so sweet and smart you have to love him! He is high energy and needs to be active. He will try and test boundaries, but is very smart! He needs a very active family, and a farm would be ideal. He spent most of his early life outdoors and is learning his inside manners. We believe he may be part Border Collie. (Read More)outdoors and likes to be King of the Hill, climbing on top of wood piles, patio chairs, etc. He is a very agile boy that would be great as an agility dog! He needs room to run and play and interaction that makes him think. He is VERY close to being housebroken, with only a couple of accidents when he has been too busy playing, but if you remember to take him out, he is great! As mentioned, he is very smart'|he sits, shakes, lays down, and is learning roll over and stay. He learns quickly, and is treat motivated!!! He gets along great with children, he is good with cats, and LOVES other dogs. He has never shown an ounce of aggression, even when another dog is aggressive towards him. And he gives lots and lots of kisses. He likes to rearrange shoes in the house, but never chews them. He is crate trained and goes in when told without a fight and sleeps in his crate all night. He is good on the leash and is learning not to pull. When he wants to go for a walk, he will pull his leash and harness down off the hooks (smart boy). He would do best in a family that has another dog or dogs that like to play to keep him company. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, up-to-date on shots, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. Buster would do best in a home as an only pet as he loves attention and since he was picked on by his brother, needs the love of a human. Sweet, sweet boy!

This is Max. He may be the most silly and affectionate dog that we've ever met. He's a petite little guy. He weighs 50 lbs. and is around 2-3 years old. If you're a gardener, you can be sure that your yard will never be infested with feral cats, squirrels or rabbits. He loves to play in the mud...but never fear, he's figured out how to jump into the tub on his own free will to have his feet and muzzle cleaned. If you have kids...he will easily fit in. He's a great disciplinarian. He will teach your kids to pick up after themselves quickly if they cherish their balls, legos, socks and underwear. No mouthiness from this one...just too many ... (Read More)slobbery kisses. He loves to sleep in and insists on spooning you in bed. He's mastered the art of playing dead and will not budge from his spot until you physically move him. He is quite the charmer and fancies himself a lap dog. Just like a baby, he will wrap his arms around your neck and schnooze on your shoulder. Max also loves to go running with his person and will keep up with speed and match strides for slow down periods. He does very well meeting strangers. He has no anxiety, noise or separation issues. He's very low maintenance. He's house broken, neutered, HW negative and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. He must be crated for his safety when left at home. He can not be in a home with cats or small rodents. He has an extremely high prey drive and the ability to jump over low gates and fences. Unless his forever home is in a condo setting where he will be walked daily, he will require a home that has a 6ft high privacy fence and he can never be left outside unattended. We have discovered that he will resource guard bricks and rocks. Although he can be easily distracted from these items through positive reinforcement, he will require a dog savvy person who is willing and able to work with this behavior. He can not have any bones. Max is located in Chicago. We ask that inquiries be within 30 miles of Chicago. Please remember we can not adopt out of state because a home visit is a requirement. We require an at home evaluation and screening prior to adoption. We do this to ensure that our animals will go to safe forever homes. If you are interested in providing Max a forever home, please fill out our adoption survey here http://makingadifferencerescue.com/adoption-survey/ This will expedite your inquiry as we are not able to return phone calls or emails during business hours.     Eddie is a handsome boy who was left behind with 4 other dogs when his owners moved away. One of which was thought to be his mother was found shot and dead in the house, another dog had been shot outside and was laying there dead. Eddie kept returning to lay next to the dead dog in the house and was very frightened. The neighbor was threatening to shoot the 3 remaining dogs if they were not gone. Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Thunder is a mellow and sweet, six-year-old, 60-pound, male, glossy black and white Lab/Pit-mix looking for a loving guardian. Thunder was rescued from the pound in Gary, Indiana. He had a bump on his head, and an injury to one of his rear legs. It's guessed that he had been hit by a car. Thunder can't see that well; he has 15% vision in one eye and 6% vision in the other. Since he's almost blind, it's not surprising that he is easily startled by someone sneaking up on him. But amazingly, he still loves to play fetch. He will listen for the ball to bounce and go in that direction. He's also quite the lap dog and loves to cuddle. Thunder ... (Read More)is living in a foster home where he has proven great with dogs of all sizes as well as cats. He is not crazy about overly playful dogs. But, he is great with a dominant male German Shepherd that typically does not like other males, but he accepts Thunder into his pack. Because of his vision problems, Thunder sometimes bumps into other dogs or lands on them if he jumps down off of a bed or couch. Most dogs are understanding of his clumsiness, but some dogs may not be. He is great with people of all ages including children, however toys on the floor are confusing to him as he memorizes his environment so he can get around. When he goes to a new foster home, he immediately tries to figure out the path to the door and has been housebroken wherever he goes when taken out regularly. He is also crate-trained. He is great on leash, at the vet and in the car. He is full of tail wags and kisses for the people he loves. He knows the command sit and does so automatically when he smells a treat or hears the crinkle of a treat bag. He is food-motivated and takes treats gently from your fingers. He's looking for a quiet home where someone can keep him on a solid routine. Thunder is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on preventative. And, even though the rescue group spent over $3,000 on his vet care '| his adoption fee is only $200. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact Melia at melia88@comcast.net or 708-224-1900.     Are you an athletic person who loves a nice solid outgoing dog? Tide is a very handsome boy, weighs about 70 pounds, about 1 year old, heartworm negative and current on all shots and health care. He is a very solid, fun loving, energetic dog who can wear out any dog here playing, except a pit mix we had who is also higher energy. At the same time when crated he is perfectly well behaved, quiet and calm. He loves to sniff about and seems to have potential for a search and rescue dog or something to use his skills to advantage. Plus he is a very confident dog and loves to hop in the car, or go anywhere you want to go which would be perfect for ... (Read More)a working dog. He is crate trained, never potties in the crate or kennel. He was rescued from a very high kill shelter in AL, where many dogs never make it out. I seen his face and just didnt want him cut short when hes still a pup with SO much potential! He will need exercise to be a good dog, either playing with another dog (med or large he loves to rough house with them!) or jogging, agility, tagging along a bike. This dog is athletic and needs an active family, no couch potatoe here (although after play time I am sure he would love couch time!!) He knows sit and he loves attention. His favorite thing other then playing is to flop over on his back so you can rub his belly! He wants to meet anyone who has visited and so many people have been very impressed with how handsome he is, but they were wanting a small dog. I havent worked with him much at all but he does learn fast! Please email for more photos he is solid built and acts very much like a lab! Contract and vet reference required to adopt. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs.
