This will be the procedure for people that arrive between 8:30-9am. After 9am, on Saturday mornings it will be first come, first serve after we help all of the adoptions that signed in between 8:30-9am. (Read More)am Saturday mornings and we will be helping adoptions in the order of when they submitted an approved application to us. There will be a sign in sheet on the front door at 8:30 am so that we can pull applications for the people that arrive between 8:30-9am. Again, the order in which adoptions will come in to the shelter to see any adoptable dogs or cats first thing on Saturday mornings will be as to when the application was submitted to Animal House Shelter so there is no need to come to the shelter any earlier than 8:30 to sign in. This will be the procedure for people that arrive between 8:30-9am. After 9am, on Saturday mornings it will be first come, first serve after we help all of the adoptions that signed in between 8:30-9am. Most people submit general applications to us which do not specify a name or a particular litter they are interested in so there is no way for us to know until people arrive Saturday morning at 8:30 how many people are interested in a particular litter, puppy, kitten, cat or adult dog. We always have around 300 dogs & cats available for adoption and the adoption counselors will help you to find the right companion for your family! Please fill out an online application and we will give you a call as soon as we receive it. Visit our 'Adopt' page to view adoption process steps, policies, requirements and FAQ.     What a perfectly playful puppy! Nash is just a joy, such a happy boy. This southern boy came all the way from Arkansas to find his happily ever after and now doubt he is going to make some lucky family very happy!! For now Nash is enjoying his foster home, running and playing in the yard, hanging out with his new dog buddies and giving his people lots of kisses. He is all puppy and we are working on some basic manners and skills such as down, sit, and puppy potty boot camp. He is on a good routine of activity and potty breaks, he is such a smart boy and is catching on very quickly. Nash is just 6 months old and just over 20 pounds do he ... Plus, he will travel well, just jump in the car for a trip to the nearest park or hiking trail. We really do not know the breeds, he looks like a mini-lab but not a clue what is mixed in there. Nash does have a Grade 1-2 heart murmur which is not considered significant in fact many pups simply out grow them. He will enjoy and active family, another dog buddy is a plus.     Bellisima Bella is ready for her closeup! This 4 year old Lab mix is pretty and petite as a picture - at 55 pounds, she's a great small lab size, perfect for all kinds of adventures! Bella was surrendered to ACL by her lifelong owner after they lost their housing. She was understandably pretty shellshocked to be at a shelter for the first time in her life, but Bella is nothing if not resilient! This lady bounced back with the help of a loving foster home, where she has been a model houseguest. Bella is gentle and friendly with her 5 year old human foster sibling, she's housebroken and well-behaved in the home, and she loves loves loves TOYS! ... Bella is good with some dogs after an appropriate intro, but she'd be happy to be your special princess, too! We don't know if Bella has had any previous experience with cats. Because she's so much happier in foster care, we're trying to have Bella adopted without having to stay at the shelter. Please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org to meet her!     Meet Loki Black Lab Mix 18 months 45 pounds Woof, I'm an 18-month black lab mix who recently made the long trip from TN to IL looking for my forever family. My foster family keeps calling me Loki but really I have no idea who they are talking about. Great news, we can come up with a name together. I promise I will learn to respond to it, I'm just a bit confused right now. I know how to go potty outside and I sleep in my crate at night and even choose it for naps during the day. I love people of all sized and live with a 4-year-old and a few older kids right now. They are great, more hands to pet me and snuggle with. I have a new foster ... (Read More)dog brother about my age who is so much fun to play with. I love running around in the yard chasing him or playing tug a war with toys as long as there is a nap in my future. I am a pretty relaxed dog if you ask my foster family. I want to be super close when we are sitting down, if you have a lap to put my head or a shoulder to lean on we will be best friends. I realize sometimes I may lean on you a bit too hard and deep inside I know I am a lapdog. My foster family also has some small furry things that run around saying meow, I think they are toys to chase and it would probably be best if you don't have any cats who run away. My foster family introduced me to this thing called a leash, I don't remember ever having used one before but I am trying to figure it out. It is hard because there are so many amazing smells that I want to explore and I am a lot stronger than I realize. If you are looking for a new best friend please come meet me.     Meet Bucky, an active, friendly and very affectionate pup looking for a home! Bucky is 11 months old, around 55 pounds and has spent practically his entire life in an animal control facility. He was brought to the shelter when she was only 2 months old with his littermates. The family dogs had an accidental litter of pups and homes could not be found for them so when they were old enough, off to the pound they went. Bucky was turned into a facility in rural southern IL. There is no reason Bucky has not found a home yet other than the fact he was in a sparsely populated area with a low adoption rate. We heard this friendly and handsome guy's ... (Read More)story and knew we had to get this guy into our adoption program! He loves people and other dogs but has lived in a kennel his whole life. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

*MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Bon jour! My name is Ava Mae and I am a large, lovely, and loving Labrador mix who is looking for a family to call my own! If you are on the search for a dog that is the perfect blend of playful and cuddly, I am the girl for you! I am four years old, and 90 pounds of love and affection. I have stunning velvet black fur and a beautiful smile that will melt your heart and make you say 'awwwww!' If my pretty looks don't win you over, my fun and affectionate personality certainly will! I came to Fetching Tails Foundation after my ... (Read More)previous owners had to surrender me to the shelter because they were moving and could no longer keep me. I am having so much fun soaking up the love in my foster home and I can't wait to find my real forever home now! I have a pretty perfectly balanced energy level: I enjoy fun games of fetch and playing with my favorite toys (so it would be nice to have a fenced yard) but then I am perfectly content to curl up in my doggie bed (or even better next to you on the couch!) for a nap. I am also a big fan of belly rubs and hope my forever family will enjoy doling them out! I am a friendly, outgoing girlie, too, and love every person and dog friend I meet on walkies in the neighborhood. My foster momma jokingly calls me wiggles because I am so happy to be with my favorite people that my tail-end never stops wagging! I currently live with two human boys (aged 9 and 11) and we adore each other; I would make a great family pet if you have some kiddos in your home. I also currently live with a cat, too and am playful with her as well. What can I say? I have a big heart and love everyone! I must say, I have pretty amazing manners, too. I don't mean to brag, but foster momma says they are, in fact, the best manners! I am potty trained, and nap in a bedroom while my foster momma is at work for up to seven hours. I know a couple commands and love to learn so maybe we could have fun taking some classes together to learn even more! I have a lot of love and joy to bring to the lucky family that adopts me, and I just cant wait to start our happily ever after together. So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and fill out that application so we can start our big adventure! XOXO, Ava Mae ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS, NO EXCEPTIONS: *ADOPTION FEE: $250 *Be at least 21 years of age *Live in a 50-mile radius of Itasca, within the Illinois border *Have the knowledge and agreement of all adults living in the household *Have approval from owner of residence (written in lease) *Have a valid ID with current address (please provide proof of address if ID address is not up-to-date) *Be approved as a suitable adoptive home by Fetching Tails Foundation *Be prepared to make a lifetime commitment If interested please fill out an application on our website at www.fetchingtailsfoundation.org; please make sure you fill in every required field/question or your submission will not go through.     *MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Greetings, friends and future family! My name is Alistair, and I am a handsome, loving chap who is looking for a special family to call my own! I am a stunning 2-year-old Lab mix, and I weigh in at a healthy 65 pounds. I have luxurious black fur, but in the sunlight I look like dark chocolate as my undercoat is brown. I also have some soft white speckles here and there which add lovely highlights to my frame! But I bet you noticed my sweet smile and soulful eyes in my picture first, didn't you? That sums me up pretty well: sweet ... (Read More)and soulful! My friends from Fetching Tails saved me from Chicago Animal Care and Control, where I was brought after being found as a stray on someone's porch. I gotta say, I love rescue life and am much happier in my foster home than I was at the busy, overcrowded shelter! I am a shy guy and love the one-on-one attention I receive from my loving foster parents. I am what you might call a cuddle machine, and love to snuggle up to my favorite people as much as possible. But I also enjoy playtime just as much and my favorite games include fetch and especially tug of war. When I think of my forever home, my biggest dream is to have a yard with a tall privacy fence where I can play zoomies and my favorite games with my attentive humans! I would also do best as your one and only canine companion so I can have all your attention for myself; I get along with calm dogs after a slow introduction so if you have a chill pup we can have a doggie date to see if our personalities match! I would also love to have a quiet, calm adult-only home with people who can help me continue to boost my confidence level and love on me as much as I love to love them. I am an active, but also very affectionate fellow! I have great household manners and am crate and potty trained. I also know a few commands including sit, shake paw, yes, no, and good boy! Since I am on the young side and working on my confidence, Fetching Tails will require my adopters to sign me up for training classes where we can learn and bond together! I think it will be great fun; I want to learn to be more social in public settings and it will be a great learning experience for us. I am a very smart boy and bet we could be class valedictorians in no time! More than anything, I want a family that will enjoy lots of play time, snuggles, and my affectionate attention! If you think I could be the handsome dog for you, please get in touch with my friends at Fetching Tails soon and tell them Alistair is the soulful, fun guy for you!     Freckles is a sweet and well-trained, sprightly, nine-year-old, chubby 55-pound female Cattle Dog-mix looking for a loving guardian. She may take a day to settle in to a new home, but once she does, she's so sweet and affectionate. She burrows her head against your body for a snuggle session, and head butts you. Animal ID: 56Jasmine (female)

Lab    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed

Can someone please explain to me why Jasmine has been waiting so long for her forever family? She has now been with our rescue for a year and deserves to be someone's four legged partner. Jasmine came to us as a stray from So. IL. She was heartworm positive, but has been treated AND has retested as heartworm negative. Jasmine has had both professional obedience training and daily obedience training at her foster home. She knows all her commands and really wants to please. Jasmine's only fault is that she is full of energy and LOVES people too much. She wants to be the center of attention and gets really excited when she meets new people and ... (Read More)dogs. We want Jasmine to go to a home with a family that has dog experience and no kids (or grandkids) younger than 12 years old. Jasmine's forever family must also have a fully fenced in yard for this girl to burn off some energy, and her family must be willing to go through an obedience course with her (to help bond with her). THIS DOG DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE OVERLOOKED. If you are that special person that is willing to love a special dog, email Christine@Howlin4help.com for an application. (Less)

LOOKING FOR A RUNNING PARTNER? WE HAVE THE DOG FOR YOU!!! Nellie was found as a stray in So. IL. Our rescue pulled her from the kill shelter and she was quickly adopted by a family with two other dogs. Unfortunately, Nellie was returned to us after 15 months in her home. Nellie is dog selective. She does okay with some dogs, but definitely not with dominant dogs so we think it best if she go to a home where she can be an only dog. We have also discovered that Nellie LOVES having a crate for herself more than any dog we have ever known. Telling Nellie she can't have her own crate is like telling a teenager she can't have her own room. Nellie ...     Sunny is a beautiful, sweet and snuggly, friendly, active, and youthful ten-year-old, 59-pound (chubby), female Shar Pei-mix looking for a loving guardian. Sunny has the plushest coat which makes her so nice to cuddle with. She absolutely loves people and gives kisses. Sadly, she spent the last five years in an all-breed shelter where she was passed up over and over again. Since then she has been transferred to Pei Land Shar Pei Rescue! She was never socialized with other dogs at her past shelter, but she's learning slowly to get along with others. So, she could possibly live with another dog - on a case-by-case basis. She loves being ... (Read More)pet, but doesn't like her butt touched. For that reason, she is best in a home with adults and teenagers; no small children. We wonder whether Sunny was abused before her initial rescue. She is very healthy, spayed, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and heartworm-tested negative. Her adoption fee of $150 benefits the rescued pets of Pei Land Rescue in Plano, Illinois. To meet and possibly adopt Sunny, please contact Jen at peachesash@aol.com or 630-553-7829. (Less)

*MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Hi friends! My name is Lynda, and if you are looking for a large, laid-back lady friend to spend your days with, I am the beauty for you! I am a 7-year-old Lab/Pyrenees mix, and when I say I am a big beauty, I mean it since I weigh in at a hearty 101 pounds! I have luxurious black fur with a darling white spot on my chest near my heart, which is appropriate since I have so much love to give the lucky people who choose to make me a part of their family! My friends from Fetching Tails Foundation saved me from Chicago Animal Care & ... (Read More)Control, where my previous owner left me when they no longer wanted me. If I am being honest, I am pretty happy they did so I can have a new start and a real happily ever after! You see, my previous owner kept me outside or in the garage most of the time, so now that I am with Fetching Tails I am experiencing love and affection in a home for the first time in a long while. And I just LOVE soaking up all the attention I can! I am a pretty calm, lazy girl and nothing makes me happier than leaning into my favorite person to receive pets. I think I would do best as your one and only fur friend so I can get all your attention all for myself. When I dream of my forever home, I envision a calm home where I can enjoy your company and chill on a comfy, cozy dog bed near you! I have some pretty good house manners, as well. I am potty trained, and can settle down and relax in my dog bed while my humans are away from home. I do not like being crated, but know not to make a mess in the house or chew on things I shouldn't, though sometimes I like to gently carry a shoe around when I am feeling silly! I would prefer a home with a tall privacy fence or a person without a yard who will take me for long walks for exercise because I am very good at climbing chain-link fences and it would be safest for all of us if I didn't have that temptation! Fetching Tails encourages all adopters to sign up for training classes with their new pups, and I think it could be a good opportunity for us to bond and learn a lot together! I know a couple commands already, including sit and give paw; I will even give paw without prompting just because I love to reach out and touch you! If you think I could be the extra large lovebug that will fill your home with affection, please get in touch with my friends at Fetching Tails soon and tell them Lynda is the lady for you! Love, Lynda ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS, NO EXCEPTIONS: *ADOPTION FEE: $250 *Be at least 21 years of age *Live in a 50-mile radius of Itasca, within the Illinois border *Have the knowledge and agreement of all adults living in the household *Have approval from owner of residence (written in lease) *Have a valid ID with current address (please provide proof of address if ID address is not up-to-date) *Be approved as a suitable adoptive home by Fetching Tails Foundation *Be prepared to make a lifetime commitment If interested please fill out an application on our website at www.fetchingtailsfoundation.org; please make sure you fill in every required field/question or your submission will not go through.
