Oak Forest- BONDED PAIR NEED FOSTER OR ADOPTER A friend's brother and his wife are sadly rehoming their two 9 year old Labs, Archie (yellow) and JJ (black). They say they have no time for them and need to focus on their kids. They have them living in a hallway on the 2nd level of the home. They are great with kids, good with cats, and Archie is good with other dogs, but JJ gets growly when they come into his home. They are both neutered, and as far as we know, no health issues other than JJ having a hard time with stairs lately. They are littermates that have literally spent their entire lives together and deserve for it to stay that way. ... (Read More)Just sweet, mellow guys who have done nothing wrong. (Less)

Meet Atlanta! Lab / Catahoula Mix 9 months old Female Approx. 40 lbs. Here is what the shelter has to tell us about the pups: The 'City Pups' are extraordinarily beautiful dogs. Pics do not do them justice at all. Very very friendly. I have not seen any sign of aggression. They have lots of energy like a typical 9 month old lab. If we have foster homes, these dogs will come to rescue on 12/9. Safe Haven pays for vetting and provides supplies while you foster. These dogs are also available for our Foster to Adopt program. Please email safehavendogsil@yahoo.com for a foster home application She is also available for our Foster to Adopt ... (Read More)program. This program allows you to be the family that greets her when she arrives in Illinois. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you! While you foster, we pay all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something she desperately needs!) and a safe place to lay her head until she finds her forever home. We also require that you have the ability to take her to routine veterinary visits at our participating vets. These vets are located in Wheaton, Naperville, Geneva and Elmhurst. Spay/Neuters are done in North Aurora. Fostering is the most life giving thing you can do for a dog or puppy! It is a very rewarding experience that will make a huge impact on their life. By becoming a foster you are saving 2 lives - the animal you bring into your home while he or she waits to be adopted, and the animal who gets to take your foster's place in the shelter. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-02-00127Claire & Tulip (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Claire and Tulip! Both Approx. 1-2 yrs old Claire- 30 lbs. Feist/Terrier Mix Tulip- 15 lbs. Beagle Mix Looking for a PATIENT family to give these 2 beauties a SECOND CHANCE! The old saying 'Opposites Attract' couldn't be more true in the case of Claire and Tulip! These southern bells have had very difficult pasts, before coming to rescue. They were both dealt difficult hands in life and they're hoping someone will give them a second chance. Now they find themselves in the same foster home and have grown to become best friends. Though they are both very different, they each have something that the other needs, and together, they ... (Read More)compliment each other very nicely. They will make the perfect duo for a family looking for a little bit of everything! Claire has a bold and friendly personality. She loves all people that she meets and is always willing to get some pets from whoever will supply them. She struggles with meeting new canine friends though, and is always 'on guard' when she is around dogs she doesn't know. She is currently living with 4 other small dogs and would like to be an alpha female in her new living situation. Tulip is her best friend, they play nicely together, snuggle at night, and Tulip is just fine letting Claire be in charge! Claire has an instinctual high prey drive and would not do well with small animals, cats, or birds in her new home. She loves to chew on bones and toys (she doesn't chew on things she shouldn't) and has never met a toy she's not willing to unstuff! Once you see the pure joy it brings her, you won't mind cleaning up the fluff on the floor! In high stress situations, Claire has lashed out at other dogs and has bitten. For this reason, we strongly recommend she go to a home with a family that has prior dog experience. Claire has never shown any aggression towards humans. Claire is a very smart dog and would benefit from having a job or being enrolled in a training program. We have had Claire evaluated and it is deemed that she is highly trainable, she just needs someone willing to give her that chance. She walks well on a harness and leash. Claire has some issues she needs to work through, but we know she's a great dog and we're hoping someone will see that and give her that second chance! Tulip has a very timid and fearful nature. She has been through many unfortunate experiences in her short life and this has caused her to struggle with trust. Claire gives Tulip the confidence to try new things and begin to trust. If given patience and time, Tulip will learn to have faith in her human friends too and she then becomes quite snuggly and loving. Tulip will need to be watched carefully and always walked with a secure harness, as she is a good escape artist and very difficult to catch! Tulip loves all dogs she meets. She is the perfect size for snuggling on the couch or in bed. She loves to play with toys and play tug with Claire. Tulip can sometimes find things around the house to play with that she should not, but she is easily redirected. Though she is slow to trust and become comfortable, if you give Tulip the time she needs to come out of her shell you'll be rewarded with a sweet and loving little girl. Claire makes a fantastic running partner and Tulip will tag along as well once she gets comfortable. Both girls would do well with a fenced in yard where they can run and play together, but will always need to be monitored while outside. Both Claire and Tulip have excellent indoor house behaviors. They are both crate trained and housebroken. Tulip needs to go out slightly more often and would do well with someone who is home part of the day. Neither girl has been around small children and we feel they would do best with a quiet family with older children. Since these two unlikely friends get along so well, we'd like to try to find them a family where they can stay together and give each other reassurance and love to make transitioning to a new home and family easy for all involved! Claire & Tulip will ONLY be adopted out together, not separately. Please contact the rescue for adoption pricing on this duo! It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

Mario is an AWESOME dog. He is friendly - you're in danger of having your face licked until it's raw. He is super well-trained - he will sit and stay and go in his cage and sit on a place mat. He is energetic and loves to play, but is also happy to curl up on the couch and chill. Be warned - this 75-lb happy boy thinks he's a lap dog! :) Mario needs to be the center of attention, and should be an only pet. He is not malicious with other dogs, but thinks he should be the alpha male - not every other dog is OK with that. Children are in danger of being knocked over by his exuberant size, but older teens should be just fine. He is not suitable ... (Read More)for hunting, but is an amazing family pet. Mario has been pampered, and comes with everything you need - cage with pet bed, bowls, place mat, harness, leash, collar, etc. Will provide all veterinary documentation (everything is up to date), as well as his diploma from Dog Training Now - a 'doggy boot camp', where he spent two weeks getting trained by the pros. (Read More)bringing her home, of this we have no doubt. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). Being a bird dog with a prey drive, we recommend he not be in a home with cats or small animals. Yoshi needs a home where someone is home most of the day and is willing to work with him. Yoshi has developed a bad habit ofl marking in the house, however no one has worked to train him to stop this behavior. There are many training techniques to get dogs to stop this behavior and Safe Haven will help to work with his foster or adoptive family. Yoshi will likely need a belly band which will ... (Read More)deter him from his behavior. While out of the house, Yoshi will also need to be crated. These are all things that Safe Haven can provide and will work on with his foster family. He is also available for our Foster to Adopt program. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you! While you foster, we pay all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something he desperately needs!) and a safe place to lay his head until he finds his forever home. We also require that you have the ability to take him to routine veterinary visits at our participating vets. These vets are located in Wheaton, Naperville, Geneva and Elmhurst. Spay/Neuters are done in North Aurora. Fostering is the most life giving thing you can do for a dog or puppy! It is a very rewarding experience that will make a huge impact on their life. Lab Mix    Age: Adult

DEERFIELD (not Tinley) Festus is an 8 year old Lab mix who has been sitting in a shelter a very long time waiting for his forever home. 'Festus is a mellow guy who never seems to be in much of a hurry. He was happy to come out of his kennel, but took his time sniffing along the walkway. Festus even spent several minutes sniffing around the same five-square-foot area of grass until I encouraged him to keep moving along so we could spend some time in the off-leash run. Festus may not be the most handsome dog at the shelter (his fur is pretty sparse by his hind legs and tail), but he has the sweetest face. When I was petting him, he stared ... Festus isn't overly active and we didn't make it all the way around the woodland trail, but that makes him easy to walk and a great companion for just hanging around the house.     Tootsie is a handsome, loyal and dog-friendly five-year-old, 55-pound, male, fawn Labrador Retriever / brush coat Shar Pei-mix with warm brown eyes and a fluffy tail looking for a loving guardian. Tootsie has the softest fur and gives his favorite people kisses. He knows the command sit and takes treats gently from your fingers. He would do wonderfully in a home with another dog since he is very playful. He was originally found stray in the Chicago suburbs with his sister who had been hit by a car. She lost one of her legs and has since been adopted. He's a smart guy who teaches himself how to open doors. When he settles down in a loving ... (Read More)home, I think that fleeing will be the last thing on his mind especially after taking some training classes with his new family.     This poor girl's story just breaks our heart. She was once an indoor dog before her heartless family abandoned her and her buddy (a Malamute) when they decided to move, kick the dogs out of the house and leave them behind. An evil neighbor SHOT AND KILLED her buddy and they were threatening to shoot Molly, but a friendly neighbor called animal control in the hopes of saving her. We can only imagine the fear and horror she felt since the day she was left behind. Howlin 4 HELP pulled this very tall and very friendly Doberman mix from the shelter and she is currently living in a foster home. She has been spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped and ... (Read More)we are happy to report she is HW NEGATIVE! We are now taking applications for her adoption. She is good with cats and with all the other dogs in the foster home, but we always recommend SLOW introductions. She is approximately 2 years old, but already has a few white whiskers, no doubt from all the stress she has recently endured. Her tail is docked to about 5 inches. Her foster family is familiar with Dobermans and they say she is very much a typical kind and loving, Velcro Doberman personality so it would be great if her adopter had some knowledge of the breed. We are only guessing that she might have some lab in her too. Molly is very athletic and can jump most fences, but she is completely trained on the underground fence at her foster home. Molly now needs her very own family to show her what true love and commitment is. Could you be that special person to help heal Molly's broken heart? Rescue Me ID: 16-11-14-00614Pecan & Walnut-Bonded (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Pecan and Walnut Bonded Pair Young Adults Lab/Hound Mixes Meet Pecan and Walnut, a special bonded pair that are looking for a family. When Pecan and Walnut came to Safe Haven from a shelter in Alabama, they were placed in different foster homes to provide them with all the love they desperately needed. Both, although loving, were lost in these homes and became withdrawn. It was then we discovered that they are a bonded pair that have likely been together most of their lives. We had done them a disservice! Bonded dogs share truly exceptional emotional ties and communication patterns. They look to, and count on each other for company, ... (Read More)comfort, stress relief, exercise, shared play, social signals, coping skills and trust building. They develop routines with each other -- often, very funny ones! Because they share so much "insider info" with each other, and have become "two sides of the same coin," and they need to remain together. If you think that that having two companion animals is always double the work, think again! Adopting a pair of pals can end up being less work: Many destructive behaviors are due to boredom or separation anxiety. A built-in, long time, playmate naturally provides the stimulation and security needed to reduce the potential for neurotic behaviors to develop. It can also alleviate concerns about leaving a companion animal and the potential separation anxiety that may occur. Bonded pairs bring special benefits to their new families. Out of the shelter, they blossom once again in stable, loving environments, and their individual personalities begin to emerge. The adjustment is eased by the continuity of still having each other for comfort and play! While we're not sure if they are siblings or not, these two have lived together for their entire lives and are very close. Since they have been reunited, they have come a very long way! They are both very loving, but Pecan is a bit shyer than Walnut and relies on Walnut for direction. If you have room in your heart and home to make a difference in the lives of two homeless pets, please consider Pecan and Walnut. Twice the dogs equal twice the love. There is a special adoption fee for the adoption of both girls! Adoption includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping for both dogs. *MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Young and fun, entertaining and sweet! If you are looking for a lifetime of adventures with a happy-go-lucky fella, please allow me to introduce myself! Hi there! My name is Dieter and I am a 1-year-old yellow Labrador mix. I have luscious blonde locks and weigh about 50-60 pounds. Best of all? I am available for adoption through Fetching Tails Foundation! My foster momma saved me from southern Illinois high-intake shelter. I was so happy to make the ride up to Chicagoland to have a second chance at a long, happy life! And ... (Read More)let me tell you, I have been one VERY happy boy since I joined the pack at my foster home! I love to run and play with my foster brother Gunther (he is an 80-pound black lab mix) as well as my buddy Deacon, who is also available for adoption through Fetching Tails. I have plenty of energy to keep up with my playful friends; we have a great time playing chase and zoomies in the yard together. I think it would be sooo cool to have a fenced yard at my forever home so I can run and play freely; it'll help keep my lab energy in check! I get along famously with most dogs, so if you already have a furry friend or two, I think it could be fun to have new best friends! I long for a forever family who enjoys the active lifestyle. I am all about that fun time, and would love to have a family that will play with me and exercise with me. Maybe we could be power-walking buddies and keep up with our fitness together? I am also a good roommate, and have good house manners. I don't jump up on furniture without being invited first; don't get me wrong, I love to cuddle and snuggle with foster momma, but I wait for her to tell me it is ok first. Isn't that so polite? I am potty trained and I have also figured out that it can be fun to hang out in my crate when foster momma has to go to work. She works full time, and I am ok in my crate during the day while she is gone (I do have an awesome friend that foster momma calls a 'dog walker' who comes to visit around lunchtime to let me and my friends out for 30 minutes to play and go potty!) Fetching Tails likes to encourage all adopters to attend training classes with their new pets, and I think that could be a lot of fun! I am a very smart, curious boy, and I would love to see what else I can learn. If an endlessly entertaining, curious, and loving dog sounds like the right fit for your fun family, please get in touch with my friends at Fetching Tails as soon as possible and let them know Dieter is the dog for you! I can't wait to start our happily ever together! Kisses and Tail Wags, Dieter If interested please fill out an application on our website at www.fetchingtailsfoundation.org or if any questions please email us! Tator is crate trained and has mastered walking nicely on a leash, the sit command, and leave it. Tator is great with other dogs of all sizes and ages. She is a very smart girl that is eager to please and would make a great addition to any family. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption.     Meet Kelly! Lab Mix Approx. 3 years old Kelly is an absolute love bug, who will steal your heart. She is a 3 year old lab mix. Right now she is 44 lbs, but needs to gain a little bit of weight. Kelly has never lived with a family or in a home before coming to us, but you would never know it with her personality. She loves to cuddle! She would spend all day either hugging (yes, she loves to give hugs) or just being by your side or resting her head on your lap. She loves to give kisses and nothing makes her happier than being with people. In spite of her living in a shelter her entire life, she did amazingly well in our home. She ... (Read More)immediately took to her crate and her blanket - it is her favorite place to hang out during quiet times. She is working on the potty training and she seems to be picking it up very quickly. As long as you let her out often, she knows what outside is for. Kelly is very good on the leash, and enjoys short walks as long as it is still light out. Not living outside a shelter, all the changes are new to her and the dark seemed to confuse her. Kelly seems to love other dogs and has shown an interest in playing, without any aggression. Kelly's energy level has been growing a bit more everyday. She is finally enjoying playing fetch and loves to run around the yard, however she seems to enjoy nap time just as much. Kelly has the potential to be very fast. Although she never seemed to want to get too far from us, a fenced yard would be recommend. Kelly is crate trained. Kelly needs a little bit of help with training and obedience, as she is very puppy like with her behavior, but she is so smart and eager to please that I know she would be the perfect dog with a little bit of training and a lot of love! Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee).     *MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Hi there! Are you looking for an adventurous, playful, energetic superhero of a dog to call your new best friend? I am Nat, and I am a gorgeous 2-year-old Black Labrador mix. It could be your lucky day because I am available for adoption through Fetching Tails Foundation! I am 50 pounds of fun, and would love a forever family who is ready to go on lots of adventures with me! Not to to sound immodest, but I am a real beauty: I have rich black fur, chocolate brown eyes, and a smile that just screams 'happy girl!' My personality ... (Read More)matches my big, gorgeous smile: did I mention yet that I am a super fun, happy-go-lucky lady? When I think of my forever home, I think I would like an active family. I love going for long walks, and I could even be an excellent jogging buddy if you are looking for a friend to help you keep up your fitness. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a fenced yard to run and play in, as well. Hey, what can I say? I am a Lab and we Labs love to find fun ways to burn our energy! I get along well with other dogs, so if you are looking for a playmate for your canine companion, I would be happy to take on the job! I have also previously lived with a cat and did fine with him, though I did want to play with him more than he wanted to play with me. One of my favorite activities is to play what my Fetching friends call 'zoomies,' which basically is a game where I run around as fast as I can in the yard. Trust me, it is the BEST! I am also learning to play fetch...I love to chase the ball, but haven't quite mastered giving it back yet. I think that is something we could work on together, yes? I also love human kiddos, though maybe with my energy level children who are past the toddler stage might be better. I am a pretty strong girl, and I would hate to accidentally knock over my human friends when I am romping around at my full zoomie speed. More than anything, I just want a family to shower with my attention and affection; I am a very friendly girl and love to make new human friends! I am a good student (I am very treat motivated! Show me a little bone-shaped cookie and I pay attention very well!) and have learned a few commands such as sit, down, and quiet. I have even taken a few formal training classes, as well! But all dogs always have more to learn, and I would love to keep taking more training classes to see just how smart I can get! My friends at Fetching Tails always encourage all adopters to attend some training sessions with their new pups; we both can learn a lot, and it is also an excellent bonding experience for us. Doesn't that sound like so much fun? Let's be the smartest couple in the class! I am also potty trained, and don't chew on things I am not supposed to. Give me a nylabone or antler to chew on instead and I am one happy girl! (I know, I know, everything makes me a happy girl! I can't help it, I have a great outlook on life!) So what are you waiting for? Don't I sound like I could be an exciting, fun sidekick for you and your family? If you are interested in making me a part of your squad, please get in touch with my friends at Fetching Tails Foundation as soon as possible! I can't wait to start the next chapter of my story! Love, Nat If interested please fill out an application on our website at www.fetchingtailsfoundation.org or if any questions please email us!     Location: Chicago, IL, 60651 Type of Pet: Dog Breed: Chocolate Lab/American Staffordshire Terrior Age: 1-2 yrs Color/Coat Type: Brown with white bib Size: 66 lbs Health Issues: No Behavior Issues: No MooShu is: Neutered, Microchipped, House Broken, Leash Trained MooShu gets along with: Adults , Older Children MooShu is such a sweetie. Aside from looks, this is how we know he has some chocolate lab in him. He is a social pup that like to be included. We recently moved out of our physical location and he was there with us the whole time. Walking back and forth with us, laying down, playing, learning new trainings from ourselves and other ... (Read More)dog owner friends. Best way to describe this dog is happy. Always happy. He lets you know when he needs to go out. He loves kisses so much that we named him MooShu which means 'kiss, kiss'. He thinks he's a lapdog and particularly likes female humans, although he likes everyone. Also, rides well in the car. We found MooShu as a stray in the city. He was running around and was very skinny, had fleas, and no microchip. Three sets of neighbors (including ourselves) got him on a leash to have a place to sleep. Since then the three parties have been paying for him to be checked up at the vet, have paid for his shots, flea treatment, food, crate, bones and leash. He has been neutered, received all shots, heart and flea treatments/medications, and a good bath. We put him on Lost Dogs of Illinois and have had no response. He didnt look very well taken care of, but was such a sweet pup at the time that we all decided to help in rehoming him. We are the household that offered to home him for now because we have a large enough house. The other neighbors either have 3 dogs, or cats. MooShu is now ready to move out of his foster home and into his FURRever home. We would keep him, but we have a little furry kitty named Kyanite, and they don't get along. Like most terrier type dogs, he runs after her when she is around. We are currently keeping them in separate rooms as we foster him back to health and rehome him. lab-american-staffordshire-terrier-mix-for-adoption-chicago MooShu comes with dog crate and behaves very well once he is in it. He is house trained and will not poop or pee inside. He is a very chill dog when given the attention. We often talk about how he would be a great porch dog on some property. We walk him 2-4 times a day and then other than that he kinda just hangs out with us. Again, we love this pup, but are not able to be good dog owners. We work from home, then travel a lot for extended periods of time. Kitty life is much more manageable for us and we want to be able to hang out with our kitty more in all parts of our house. All Current shots with Anti-Cruelty Society Paperwork Comes with crate, food, harness, leash, and free animal communication session (if you're into that). (Less)

Charlie is an extremely sweet, happy, playful, cuddly and friendly, seven-month-old, tiny male yellow lab-mix puppy looking for a loving guardian. He is not recommended for families with children under nine years of age. He is very healthy and will be neutered and fully-vetted upon adoption.     DOB 4/14/16 Calling all big dog lover families! I'm Harley, a big boy already weighing in at 41 lbs. Everyone who meets me says I have the most adorable ears, they have ever seen! I was rescued from Kentucky, after being dumped at a high kill shelter. My breed guess is Lab/Hound Mix, maybe some Basset since my siblings have very short legs. My foster mom is always laughing at me, since I have these long legs, and at that clumsy stage. Being a big goofball, I still think I am a lap dog and LOVE attention from everyone. Always being up for playing with a ball or a game of fetch, I would love a active family that likes to play. My ... (Read More)foster mom says I am really smart and catches on to training quickly. Since I already knowing 'sit', 'off' and 'no', housebroken currently without any accidents, I agree! I have mastered walking on a leash, and would make a great walking companion. Running around the fenced in backyard, with my sister, foster siblings, and neighbor kids, is one of her favorite things to do. I will need someone home most of the day to continue my training and socialization.     Madison is a lovable and playful, four-year-old, 40-pound, dark brown female pit bull terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. She is housebroken and crate trained. She's been through a series of training classes with her foster mom and has become an all-around awesome dog. Lab Mix    Age: Senior

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This is very hard for me...Bear, we think he is a Lab/Corgi mix (he is short) is needing a FUREVER HOME..., Bear is a really cool dog. Everyone that meets him, just loves him, he would love to be a lap dog....although he forgets he is over 45 lbs. I have been trying to find him a home for quite a long time, as he was dumped in my lap by a guy who was getting divorced and had to move...then when he did it was convenient that he could not have a dog any longer. Bear is a good dog, but really needs to have a different home he should be an only dog, he loves adults, older adults and teenagers, needs more personal ... (Read More)attention and freedom then I can give, he spend 23+ hours a day in his cage at my home. He is neutered, up on all of his shots, house broken, when he is the only dog....but will mark if others are in the house. He listens to most commands, and all things considered I love him, and this is breaking my heart. I have had many rescues in my home over the past few years, several papillons, a jack russell mix, 2 cocker mixes, and boston mix, and a 14+ lab that we took in almost 2 years ago, to spend the end of her life in my home. This breaks my heart, but he deserves love, he adores teenagers especially girls. Due to several reasons including personal health issues, I can't give him that. Bear should not be left free when know one is home as he will mark furniture( I believe he thinks he has been abandoned, when home alone not in the crate) , he loves his crate, has his meals in there and does not have accidents. I am gone 10 plus hours a day. He had seizures when we first got him (another thing he original owner 'forgot' to tell us) but we found he has a grain allergy, and since going grain free the seizures are no more. Being in my home, in a crate for so many hours a day, with zero exposure to possible furever homes is not fair to Bear, he deserves better...much better.... He does not show well in a group environment, we have tried to bring him to several adoption events, he barks and lunges at the other dogs, but once he is given a chance to meet the other dogs, all he wants to do his play, so one on one meets with people is important for someone to get to see who he really is. So by this weekend I am going to relinquish him to a local no-kill shelter, hoping he gets more exposure to find the right furever home, unless someone here can help him and consider adopting him.     This handsome boy was in a very high kill animal shelter and was going to be put down due to space. His family who had him left him there to die because he wouldn't stay home. He could jump a 4 foot fence, he no longer does here. They said he was 2 years old, he is now 4 years old, sadly he has been stuck for 2 years waiting for a home. He is black with a gray muzzle, and built like a husky, moves and acts like a husky and can yodel, but has semi floppy ears, weighs about 55 pounds. He was very skinny when we first rescued him. He is sweet, bold, and fine with most dogs, even small dogs. He loves attention once he know you but until then ... (Read More)is very indifferent and unsure. He has a more independent personality. He has little interest in cats. His favorite way to play is to race around the yard with another dog chasing him. Other then those occasional sprints he doesn't really play much. He's a very mellow boy. Crate trained, neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Current or recent past vet clinics number, and contract is required to adopt. We have many rescued dogs please check out our website. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Are you an athletic person who loves a nice solid outgoing dog? Tide is a very handsome boy, weighs about 70 pounds, about 1 year old, heartworm negative and current on all shots and health care. He is a very solid, fun loving, energetic dog who can wear out any dog here playing, except a pit mix we had who is also higher energy. At the same time when crated he is perfectly well behaved, quiet and calm. He loves to sniff about and seems to have potential for a search and rescue dog or something to use his skills to advantage. Plus he is a very confident dog and loves to hop in the car, or go anywhere you want to go which would be perfect for ... (Read More)a working dog. He is crate trained, never potties in the crate or kennel. He was rescued from a very high kill shelter in AL, where many dogs never make it out. I seen his face and just didnt want him cut short when hes still a pup with SO much potential! He will need exercise to be a good dog, either playing with another dog (med or large he loves to rough house with them!) or jogging, agility, tagging along a bike. This dog is athletic and needs an active family, no couch potatoe here (although after play time I am sure he would love couch time!!) He knows sit and he loves attention. His favorite thing other then playing is to flop over on his back so you can rub his belly! He wants to meet anyone who has visited and so many people have been very impressed with how handsome he is, but they were wanting a small dog. I havent worked with him much at all but he does learn fast! Please email for more photos he is solid built and acts very much like a lab! Contract and vet reference required to adopt. A friend has sponsored half of his adoption fee of $200. to help him find a great forever home! (Less)

Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
