Dawson is a handsome, well-trained and loyal, five-year-old, 86-pound, male, yellow lab/shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Dawson is an affectionate and happy boy who adores his people. He knows the commands sit, stay, down, heel and paw, and he takes treats gently from your fingers. He is well-behaved in the home, and great with other dogs at doggie daycare and the dog park. He has the body, intelligence and protectiveness of a shepherd, and the coat and playfulness of a Labrador. Dawson is not a beggar at the table, but he does love his fruits and veggies. It occurred when Dawson had a scuffle with another dog in his own front yard and a woman let out a high-pitched squeal; Dawson reacted by biting her on the calf. Pilot landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control as a skinny stray after being hit by a car. He had a fractured left hip which has since healed very nicely. You would never know he was ever injured. Lab Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.
