Rescue Me ID: 18-04-22-00070Steve (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Steve came to us as a stray. He is estimated to be about 2 years old and still has pretty high energy. We have been working with him on basic commands and leash walking. He is a sweet boy who loves toys and chewies....he knows how to keep himself occupied. He does not mess in his kennel. He loves being outside, so a fenced yard or frequent walks is a must. We do want him to have a predominantly indoor home, however. His breed is our guess...definitely some lab, and possibly Border Collie or maybe Blue Heeler. Your guess is as good as ours! He is fully vetted and microchipped and tested negative for heart worms and available now. His ... (Read More)adoption fee is $100. Lab    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bella is a very sweet 10 year old chocolate lab. Inside she is very calm and outside she acts like a puppy. She did have her ACL replaced in 2013 and has done excellent in her recovery. I do limit her excessive running free (most just side to side motions). We just had our fourth child and are moving out of state to a place that will not be suitable for her. We also feel after seeing her at my sisters (without so much noise ans choas from young kids) how happy she was again. If she didn't travel so much, we'd send her there. She tends to just hide from the commotion now. So, we'd love to be able to give her a home that would allow more one ... (Read More)on one time and the calmness she seems to desire. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

You may remember this guy - it is Manny. He was out to foster for about three months last year and then found what we believed to be a home that would give him the time and space he needed to come the rest of the way out of his shell. He was doing well with the stability of his foster home and a regular routine. Unfortunately he got adopted in November and rather than wait for him to adjust (which everyone knew would not be quick) they decided to drug him starting the first of December. The drugging did nothing but amplify him being afraid of everything and then he went back to having accidents inside when he was drugged. He got more ... (Read More)fearful of things and appeared to be drugged enough to more or less be in a zombie state. His condition when he came back in was very upsetting for everyone. We immediately consulted with the vet and got him off the drugs. It took a little while for him to get past the shakes, inability to control his bodily functions, to stand without wobbling and then through all of the mess of everything making him sick at his stomach as he was working the drugs out of his system. He has lost quite a bit of weight but we are giving him plenty to eat to make up for it. He is now doing better and we believe he is very thankful to be back at the shelter. He is still very afraid of strangers - men more so than women - he loves to go on walks as long as you work him through the stages of everything being strange - once he learns the route he does great. He gets along great with other dogs. Not sure on cats but probably not a good idea. He is NOT aggressive. He needs to live in a structured environment where he can learn what to expect. We do not believe he could adjust to a home with young kids where there is a lot of commotion. He is a big boy and is probably a Lab/Great Dane mix. He is 2 1/2 years old. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Raven. I am a pistol and love to play, play and then play some more. I am at PFP looking for a home. I am young with a date of birth of 1/26/18 but I am one smart cookie. I am a typical puppy and I need my own family to teach me all the things that the bigger dogs know. They tell me I am a mix - but not sure I know what that is - I just know I am stinking adorable and have an awesome personality. They tell me I will be spayed this week - not sure what that is but it sounds fun. They have stuck me around here with a few shots - ouch - and they put this thing in me called a micro-chip explaining to me that if I am a bad girl ... (Read More)and run away that it will help me get home. I get along with other dogs but I am a little bossy - even with dogs bigger than me. I need an active home with maybe a dog a little older than me to do what they call around here as 'put me in my place'. They speak in strange terms around here some days. I understand food, treats, love and play - those I have down pat - the rest of it I have to learn - but sure am willing to try if you are. NOTE FROM PFP: If you are interested in adopting Raven her adoption fee is $250.00. She is spayed, current on puppy shots, wormed, current on flea/tick preventative and current on heartworm preventative as well as micro-chipped. We have an adoption application which is located on our website at www.patriotsforpets.com and that needs to be completed and approved in order to adopt Raven. (Less)

Marley is about 2 1/2 years old and he is a lab. He got surrendered to us when he kept escaping from his owner and the fines for loose dog were stacking up more than the owner could afford, plus they were threatening to euthanize him if the owner didn't do something about it. He is housebroken, excellent with kids, good with other dogs, neutered, current on all of his shots and micro-chipped. He just needs a home where he can be kept from escaping. He is kennel trained, loves his treats. He does play rough with other dogs. He is very strong. He will help himself to things if you leave them sitting on the table. He knows his basic ... Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Staci is a 10 month old Labrador Retreiver. She is full of kisses. She is a typical lab puppy with lots of energy and lots of love to get. She would be an excellent family member for an active family or a great jogging partner for an active individual. She is not wired for an inactive life. She gets along great with everyone and does great with other dogs her size or larger. Not good with small dogs or cats. She is, for the most part, housebroken but will require some reinforcement of that in a new home. Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Stan. He is one of the Texas Rescue dogs. He is shown as a 5 year old Rottweiler/lab mix. Here is what his foster mom had to say about him: Stan is the biggest of our Texas rescue fosters at about 90 lbs. He's a puller, and very strong, but with a no-pull harness, he walks very well. I think he may have been an outside dog, and don't believe he's housebroken. Does not like other dogs by his food. He gets along well with mild mannered Smokey, but hates busy Bob. At 5 yrs old, he would probably do best as an only dog. He barks alot when he sees us in the yard and wants attention, but does not bark at our neighbors.

Lab Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chubba is still very young. His DOB is 2/13/17. He is a lab/dalmation mix. He lived a miserable six months here on this earth before coming to us and our goal to make the rest of his life a good one. He was 'dumped' way before he was old enough to care for himself. He ended up in an area that was filled with Porcupine and had the needles all over his body - especially his face. He had to be live trapped to get him. He was absolutely terrified and is still leary of humans but is coming around vey slowly. It took almost two months for his sores to heal and for him to 'tolerate' being touched but he is doing better - all physical wounds ... (Read More)are healed and he is now coming to the gates looking for attention, he will not in and out voluntarily without being forced. We put him in with a more outgoing dog and that has helped tremendously. He requires a loving and PATIENT home. He is not a 'love you to death' type of puppy. You will have to earn that love through lots and lots of patience. He does great with other dogs and is getting more and more curious about all of the attention they get. He would probably be best in a home with another dog to help him finish coming out of his shell (a non-aggressive dog of course). He doesn't have a mean bone in his body but as with any fearful dog - he could bite - so therefore no young children for this beautiful baby. His adoption fee is $100.00. If you think you have the patience and love for this young guy, please go to our website and complete an adoption application you will find that at www.patriotsforpets.com He is neutered, current on his shots, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Iowa
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Iowa Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
