Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

As jovial as the friar by the same name, Tuck is indeed part of a merry band. He stays busy by by patrolling the shelter for wayward varmints but can most often been found socializing with the other dogs, sharing what we think must be funny jokes. He's a happy little guy and only about 6 months old. Tuck would like nothing more than to have his own forever merry band of humans. He wants so badly to be part of a family. We do know Tuck is afraid of cats. When one comes near he finds the closest person to hide behind. He appears to have some lab in him but the ears are a puzzle. He is a pretty small guy.

I was trying to do the right thing by taking in a dog named Bear about a year ago. This dog came in and was hit by a car, the owner had no money to pay for the surgery to fix or amputate the leg, I stepped in and took the dog in as my own, we did end up amputating a rear leg. He is a German Shepard and lab mix, he's a year and a half now, he is very sweet! He comes up to date on all vaccinations and current on flea/ tick prevention and heartworm prevention. I do have a large kennel for him but he is not kennel trained well bc of he surgery at such a young age( an there were some complications) I would love to keep him but I was accepted into ... (Read More)vet school in the fall at Iowa state and I can not take him with me. I just want him to find a nice home with people that have the time for him (Less)

He is strong, energetic, talkative, loving, and a bundle of joy. He so wants to be around people, his excitement can be a bit overwhelming. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This very active young lady is Andrea. She is 8 months old and is a Shar-Pei mix (we believe probably mixed with lab). She has LOTS of energy. She gets along great with other dogs and seems to really care less about the cats. She has more of the Lab personality than she does the Shar-Pei. She has never met a stranger I don't think. She is spayed, heartworm negative, current on her shots and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $200.00 and she is ready now for a new home.

Rocky came to Animal Lifeline because she has had seizures in the past (last one was October 2014) and he has some arthritis in his rear knees. Rocky was born in November 2010 and is a great dog, good with other dogs, cats, children and likes people too! He is housetrained and likes to play out in the yard. He is on medication to help with his arthritis and is receiving acupuncture and chiropractic treatments to help with this as well. A great dog - the family or person that adopts him will have years of unconditional love showered upon them by Rocky.

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-19-00506George (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am George. I am about 3 years old and am a lab mix. I have not had a very easy life. In July of last year I was diagnosed with Heartworm. I underwent the nasty treatments it took to get me well and I have recovered. I was severely neglected in my prior home and I am really wishing for a miracle that I find a family who will love me and give me the chance to love them back. My new family needs to make sure I stay on Heartworm medication all Summer to assure I don't get Heartworm again. I tend to get a little snappy with small children when they get right in my face so probably not a home with young children would be best for me.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Iowa
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Iowa Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs.
