I'd love to have a big place where I can run around as much as I like, it makes me so happy. They say I need manners, I don't know what those are, but if it makes you happy, I will have manners.     You are gonna want to meet me. I am Maggie and am I adorable or what? I am about three years old and no one seems to be able to come up with a good educated guess on my breed. The best everyone has come up with is Border Collie/Lab mix. There are all kinds of guesses from maybe some husky, maybe some Duck Tolling Retriever, etc. Whatever I am - it doesn't matter as I am so very sweet. I get along great with kids - I am fully reliable in the house. I don't care much for felines in my life and give them a really hard time. I got along with one of my four legged sisters but I didn't get along with the other one - so if I am in a multi-dog home ... (Read More)we have to make sure we get along together. I will be available for adoption this weekend. Come on out and see me - I am a well mannered girl who is about three years old. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-26-00119Smokey (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, My name is Kendra and I'm looking to re-home my 8 year old, Catahoula leopard mix Smoke. I love him dearly but have to surrender him because out of nowhere he started marking things and pooping in our daughters nursery. We took him to the vet and could not find anything medically wrong with him. Our vet thinks it's all behavioral possibly because of our new baby. We tried anti-anxiety drugs and kenneling him but that has not been working for us. I'm heartbroken over this situation because I want to keep him but my fiance has had it and we CAN NOT keep him. He is such a loving boy, he's very cuddly, and affectionate. He's loves all ... (Read More)people including small children. He enjoys being outdoors and laying in the sun. He also likes lounging indoors. I'm at a loss because I would HATE to take him to a shelter since he's a black, 8yr old boy and those tend to get adopted last. Also he gets scared when he hears loud noises and will come sit in my lap so I wouldn't want him to be in a shelter during a storm. If you could please take the time to look into him I would be so appreciative. I just love him so much and want him to have a good home. The attached picture is of Smoke and my son. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-22-00037Ginni (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am one of the new fur kids here at Patriots. My name is Ginni. I am about four years old and I am a major lover. In the 10 days since I arrived here, I have been snuggled with, played with, had my food played with, walked on a leash and had all parts of my body handled and guess what - I don't mind anything you do as long as you are giving me attention and loving on me. I've got a slight injury on one of my legs but it is healing up very well and in another couple of days you won't even be able to tell it. I do have to tell you that I don't like people who stand over me and yell and lunge at me - I did bite someone for doing it - no one ... (Read More)knows exactly what happened except me and of course - who will take my side of the story - I am a dog. After testing me, the folks here at Patriots believe that I was protecting myself from the bully who was acting like he was going to hurt me as I have done nothing to give anyone here any signs that I am aggressive. I like kids a lot and I don't mind other dogs - I will chase the cats though but they are pretty quick and always go too high for me to reach. I am fairly quiet and I am housebroken. I'm not a very big girl. I am about 40 pounds. I have been spayed, current on all of my shots, have been heartworm checked and have a micro-chip. My next step is to find a forever home. Preferably one where the gas man doesn't come into my yard and try to intimidate me. If you know of such a person - will you let them know that I am here waiting at Patriots for Pets. High Paws To All, Ginni (Less)

Brownie is really playful , loves attention and cuddles. He is pretty good runner partner :) He loves kids but sometimes he forgets that he is not little and might want to sit on your lap. Knows basic commands but he is a really smart guy always learning. Due to my job and traveling, my days are long. A home with fence would be perfect since he is used to play

Blue was brought in as a stray on 2-20-14. We think he is a Pitbull mix. He is very friendly but bit of a wild man. We would not recommend him to a home with small kids. Feel adults only and preferably someone who knows about pitbulls. We have a pitbull ban in our city but can adopt him to places that can have pitbulls. We have a special pitbull application for him.He is up tp date on all shots except rabies and has had a heartworm test.

URGENT HELP NEEDED--Rose was pulled from high kill shelter in Miami, Florida on 3/3/2014. She was scheduled to be killed within next 2 days. She was at the last back kennel in a room with long rows of death-row kenneled dogs that house about 60 dogs. By the time visitors reached her area, they had already seen the whole shelter (200 plus dogs there) and most people hardly even got to see her kennel--because it was so out of the way. She had been confined to a very small cell since January! She had not left that cell for one minute until we came along. She is a lover. She has a lot of 'puppy' in her and she can be calm and walk by herself ... (Read More)into her kennel when left open, or run around the house and throw her toys up in the air. She has gotten along with smaller dogs but I believe she is greatly fearful of bigger dogs and does become aggressive with them when she sees them At first until she warms up-I believe out of fear. Since we pulled her, she has travelled with us to hotels and is very loving with all strangers. She has slept with my daughter and travels fantastic in a car. We cannot keep Rose because she becomes obsessed with my cats. We have an acreage with about 20 rescued cats and she becomes deaf to all when she sees a cat. Rose is only about 35-40 lbs an so not a very big dog. She is a mutt of mutts and we believe she is boxer/lab plus a dash of pitt/terrier? She would be best in a home with adults, no cats and children older than 8 years old Absolutely no cats but yes we can try her with smaller dogs. Please help us give Rose a forever home and help her go from almost killed to a dream life. Right now she is at the best DOGGY DAY CARE--Half-Moon Kennels--but she can't stay there for ever because my funds are limited. Please help us help Rose. I can drive Rose anywhere in the country where she can find a great forever home. Please note that All dogs I adopt out first go for 2 week trial period. Goal is to see if it's a good match for Dog-human. Also dog can always come back to me if it does not work out. (Less)

Gypsy is now ready for adoption. This girl came from Texas and was scheduled to be euthanized along with her seven puppies which were only a few days old. We brought her and the babies back with us. She did an excellent job taking care of her babies and she has come a long way. She is still a little shy but warms up with slow and steady attention. She has now been spayed, is up to date on all of her shots and is micro-chipped. This girl has been through hell - she deserves a good and loving home where she can be a member of the family. We have not had any problems with her going to the bathroom inside but while she was at Debbie's house ... (Read More)with the puppies and since she has come back to the kennel. She needs LOVE. She is good with kids and would probably be fine with another dog - we would just want to check them together. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Iowa
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Iowa Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
