Rescue Me ID: 15-03-10-00269Dixie (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Miss Dixie, our Southern Bell! Always very reserved while she evaluates her surroundings! Our best guess is she is a lab/greyhound mix. She is spayed, UTD on shots and microchipped. Once they meet her standards she joins the fun quietly and gently. Dixie is the most comfortable outside, she immediately trades her quietness for energetic playfulness! Dixie is really looking for a running partner or a fenced in back yard where she can stretch her long legs in a good run! Our Southern Bell will tolerate a kennel, but isn't accustomed to being in one all day, with her perfect record in house training and respect for house hold items she gets ... (Read More)free roam of the house with her 4 legged volunteer brother. Dixie hasn't been around young children, but with her adaptability and playfulness she will be a great addition to your home! Dixie is a smart lady that responds to common commands and is eager to please..... responding best to praise training! (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Layla - I am a little over a year old and I am a Lab/Boxer mix. Life hasn't been very easy for me. You see, I have lots of energy and my family just couldn't, or wouldn't, deal with it. So they stuck me outside in an 8 foot by 6 foot kennel with only a plastic dog house for protection. They fed and watered me when they remembered. One of my family's relatives took me because they felt sorry for me but I was just too much to handle. I got along fine with the other dogs in the home and with the kids but I wasn't there long enough to learn all the good things I should know like sit, stay, walking on a leash, etc, as my new mom had ... (Read More)to have an emergency c-section and I was just too high energy for her to deal with. I don't blame her - she tried very hard to make it work. I really want to be loved and I am willing to love up to anyone who will show me attention. I am a runner so I can't be left in an unfenced area as I will take off. I have done awesome with housebreaking and have not had an accident inside here at the shelter. If you, or someone you know, is that person who can give me lots of love, please tell them about me sitting here at the shelter. Puppy Kisses, Layla (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Waylen is in desperate need of a forever home fast. He is currently in the ARL shelter in des Moines Iowa.... He belonged to my children and exhusband and they were no longer able to keep him due to where they live. He is generally a very sweet dog but does not like stressful aggressive situations. He has bitten me but as I said it was a stressful aggressive situation and he protected his master. ARL contacted me this morning as he is not reacting well to the shelter. He is very scared and showing fearful signs toward the shelter staff. He won't let them near him and they are unable to place him for adoption due to his behavior. He needs ... (Read More)someone calm who understands the nature of the bread and has some knowledge in training them. He is great with my kids and got along well with my silky and chihuahua was never around dogs other than them. He does enjoy chasing cats but to my knowledge never hurt one. He is in desperate need of help as ARL is not a no kill facility. They have said they will release him to me no charge. I just need someone willing to give this guy another chance. Please help! He doesn't have long! (Less)

Onyx is a young Black Lab mix (just 3 years old) who, after being homeless and given a second chance at life, is looking for a home to call his own%BD'%BD|forever. Onyx is a loving boy who enjoys attention (and will nudge for you to give him it!). He loves to play outdoors with other dogs, enjoys walks (he is fabulous on a leash), and would be an excellent running buddy! This guy is not only great with kids and adults alike%BD'%BD|he also gets along with the cat in his foster home. Onyx would make a great family dog as he is house trained and would be fine in car on family trips. In July of 2014, after being hit by a car, Onyx ... (Read More)underwent total hip replacement (with the help of Critter Crusaders) to repair the damage. Onyx is now fully recovered and is a very athletic boy! He can jump a 4-foot fence so, ideally, his forever home would have a taller fence or experienced adopters willing to work with Onyx on boundaries. Onyx is more than ready to be in his forever home! Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am George. I am about 2 1/2 years old and am a lab mix. I have not had a very easy life. In July of this year I was diagnosed with Heartworm. I underwent the nasty treatments it took to get me well and I have recovered. I was severely neglected in my prior home and I am really wishing for a miracle this Christmas that I find a family who will love me and give me the chance to love them back. My new family needs to make sure I stay on Heartworm medication next Summer to assure I don't get Heartworm again. Come on out and show me that there are kind people who love animals.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Iowa
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Iowa if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Iowa Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs.
