Rescue Me ID: 18-06-09-00148Husker (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Husker is a 5 1/2 year old lab pit mix. He has been a very special part of our family for the past 5 years. He likes to go for walks and he loves to go for runs. He will happily trot along side you for 10 minutes or an hour, whatever you're up for. He is very good off leash and will not stray more than a few feet and always comes when called. When you get home, he likes to cool off on the floor and will accept as many treats as you're willing to share. He loves standard dog treats but he also enjoys raw sweet potato, carrots, apple and banana. Inside the house, he is a snuggly boy and loves to curl up while watching a movie or taking a ... (Read More)nap. He is one hundred percent house broken and understands basic commands like sit, lie down, and stay. He is good with children of all ages and loves to give lots of licks. His only downside is that he is not great in the car unless he rides in the front seat. For occasions when he cannot ride in the front seat, you can give him some all natural calming drops or a bully stick and he'll relax. Husker would be great for an individual or a family who can spend a lot of time with him. While he is totally fine being home alone all day, he loves people and is happiest when he is with his human friends. He gets along well with other dogs and loves a good chase around the dog park, woods or beach. It is with a heavy heart that we have started the process of rehoming our sweet Husker due to our young child's allergies. We want Husker to be part of a loving home and give his next family as many happy memories as he gave to us. (Less)

'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Lacey is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. Rescue Me ID: 18-04-28-00330BETSY - $300 (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

BETSY was saved with her son, Bobby from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. BETSY is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 10 March 2016 and at the time of rescue in March 2018 weighed around 46 pounds. Betsy has been listed as a Pointer Mix, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed she is, it is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what you think she looks like. When Betsy arrived at the rescue I brought her up in to the house with her puppy Bobby since ... (Read More)they was recovering from Demodex mange, a non-contagious skin infection. Both mum and pup settled in great and are happy and comfortable in the house with the other dogs. BETSY's skin infection has cleared up and her hair is coming through wonderfully, it will just be another month or so before it has fully grown back in, but she is looking amazing from how she was when we initially saved her. BETSY loves to be near her humans and is extremely affectionate. Initially she didn't want other dogs to come near me, however, after some correction she soon learnt that she would get her fair share of love. Her puppy has been adopted and she is longing for a family of her own to love and adore. Betsy loves toys especially squeaky toys and will take one on the dog bed and play with it for hours, she also enjoys chewing on the hooves and horns and although will try to take them from other dogs, if they do not let her, she respects that and will go and find something else to play with or chew on. I think a lot of this behaviour is just from the horrible life she has previously had and now she is starting to feel good and getting lots of attention and cuddles she doesn't want to risk losing that, which is understandable. She is extremely responsive and knows I am alpha and responds to when I tel her 'no'. She is a very smart girl. She loves to chase the squirrels and wild animals running up and down the fence, watching them waiting for them to move and then she will take off following them (within the fenced in area). She can spot a squirrel in the woods from a good distance and just bounds over to where the squirrel was or creature was. She is so much fun to watch as she has so much fun. Betsy does use the dog door to go out to do her business or enjoy the fresh air. I do not know if she would let you know she needs to go out since she has 24/7 access to the outside, but she is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn. She has a lot of energy and so she will need an active family. Someone who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. I have not seen her with children, but her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and a lot of fun too. She needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. Betsy rides good in the car. She is used to being with other dogs so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for her. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be near or around them. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. Betsy needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how she would be around them, however, I am not sure I would trust her with them since she has a high working drive. She is great with humans and I believe would be great with children, I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours. %BD'%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Betsy is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-02-23-00178MICA (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MICA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Mica is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 7 February 2015 and at the time of rescue in February 2018 weighed around 50 pounds. Mica has been listed as an German Shepherd mix, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed she is, it is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what you think she looks like. At the shelter Mica was with a German Shepherd named Glory who was extremely fearful and had bonded with ... (Read More)her and felt safer being with Mica. When Mica was not with her she would cower at the back of her kennels, but Mica gave her confidence. So of course we saved Glory the same time as Mica and brought them both up to the rescue. Since being at the rescue Glory has gained in confidence, she is in a pen next to Mica and they have playtime together and are so very happy with each other. Mica since being at the rescue is totally loving life, she loves to play with toys, chew on hooves and horns, wrestle and chase with Glory and the other dogs and get lots of love and cuddles as much as she can. Mica is high energy and she feeds of the excitement of the other dogs, but does calm down and settle after a while. She is a great girl who has never shown any kind of aggression in any way. When out of her pen she will run up and down the kennels saying hi to her friends and then will run out to play outside and burn off some of that excess energy. Mica does use the dog door to go out to do her business or enjoy the fresh air in her run. I do not know if she would let you know she needs to go out since she has 24/7 access to the outside, but she is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn. Mica is great with other dogs and is happy to run around chasing and wrestling. She has not shown any sign of aggression at all. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be near or around them. She needs an active family, I have not seen her with children, but her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and a lot of fun too. We would LOVE to adopt her with her best buddy GLORY, if you are interested in giving both of these girls a wonderful home, please email me. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org MICA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ADA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick disease tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2017. ADA has been listed as a GSD mix. Ada was only a month old when she was saved with her mother and sibling, both were pure white, with blue eyes. Both her mother and sibling have been adopted. Ada, having grown up around lots of dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes is extremely well dog socialized. She is an active girl and she loves to play, chase, wrestle and have fun. As a pup she was very shy and didn't like to be ... (Read More)touched, but she has developed into a very loving, affectionate girl, who will find the smallest spot on the bed and make sure she can fit in it, just to be close. She will cuddle on the couch, but also is content lying on a dog bed. Since we don't time to train dogs at the rescue Ada is going to need a family that will spend the time and work with her, she is well behaved and does have good manners, but she needs to learn boundaries and her new families expectations and rules. She is very responsive and I believe once trust has been established, training will be fun and rewarding for both her and her family. She can be shy of people initially, but given time she warms up quickly and just loves to love. Ada has not been on a leash, although we are going to try and work on that if time permits, but the family must expect to have to work with her on that. She is going to need a family that is sensitive to the fact that all she has known is a high kill shelter and then the safety of the rescue, so it is going to be a big transition for her. Having another dog in the family would be a huge benefit for her, but an active, loving family is the priority in this wonderful girls perfect match. Ada has never shown any kind of aggression with dogs or humans, she is good with kids, and just like with adults she will most likely be a little wary to start with. Ada does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside. Ada is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Ada and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands her initial caution of people and new places, that will help her develop her confidence and trust. Ada is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Maine
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Maine Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S.
