Rescue Me ID: 17-09-15-00468Hadassah Grace (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Hadassah Grace is a female who is fixed and medically current. I got her 3 months ago from a family who had a passel of young children and I was told she did well with them. I have no children so cannot verify that other than to say I saw no issues when I went to visit the dog in her environment nor have there been any problems with the neighborhood kids. Hadassah lives with a medium breed male dog with no issues and came from a home with a female dog. She is eating mostly real food and enjoys the huge bones I get fir her. She is learning to play, is house trained and needs no crate here as she doesn't destroy anything. She is a good guard, ... (Read More)excellent judge of character, and is doing well with her basic and some advanced obedience training, learning new commands and playing games to stimulate her mind. She likes to chase squirrels and some birds but is mostly compliant with the no chase command. Her best home would, in my opinion, be one with a large fenced yard minimum, active owners, and older dog savvy children if any, or to be the companion to one special person as she craves attention but is not a velcro dog. She will come with her bed, bones, a few toys, etc. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hello! I'm Kinsley :) I am a 2 year old, 40 pound, Husky & Shepherd Mix girl on a journey to find her very own furever home. Could that be you? Her foster reports that Kinsley is working on housebreaking and walking nicely on a leash. Kinsley is really curious about everything, especially when she is outside! She is a happy girl who has a tail that is always wagging. She is getting along well with the dog in her foster family. This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat ... Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nothing like a bond between a human and their dog! Meet Nubbs! She would LOVE to get to shower you with kisses! Sadly, she found her way to a shelter in South Carolina. OPH scooped her up and she is ready for her forever home. She is a petite girl around 40-50lbs. She is spayed, up-to-date on shots, and fostered in Sykesville, MD. Some of Nubbs' fantastic qualities: *Perfect age - she is about 3 years old *Crate trained - She is quiet in her crate *Good House Manners - House trained and just wants to be near you *Intelligent - Walks well on leash, knows how to sit, and working on laying down *Great for adults - kids are loud and a ... (Read More)little scary *LOVES to Love - she can always use a hug or a pet, making every day special. *Excited about car rides - Hops right in the car and gets comfy. *Ready to enter your family - she is up to date on all shots and spayed *Excellent Pup for a low/medium energy single, couple, or family - Would love to play a little and snuggle awhile. *Loyal and Eager to Please - She bonds very quickly to his family and just wants to be near you *Dog friendly - Currently fostered with other dogs. Prefers low-key submissive dogs as friends. *Cat untested - she isn't much of a chaser and would likely do fine with a cat Note: Nubbs came to OPH worried about strangers. She continues to take some time to warm up. Once she knows you, she is in love. In her foster home, she loves being lazy, enjoys time in the backyard, and loves walks. She is working on building self confidence and would love an adopter to continue working with her on this. A little pack leadership and love will ensure a happy, long life together. We highly suggest additional training. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hi, my name is Brinley! I'm about 40 lbs, 3 years old and folks think I'm probably a small black lab mix. I am sweet and my tail is always going. I'm so happy I got to hitch a ride from NC to my foster in MD. At my foster home, I'm pretty much house broken and crate trained. I love playing with my lab sisters but also content playing by myself especially chasing a tennis ball. I wasn't used to walks but am doing well although I don't like the loud noises I hear. I'm really a pretty easy girl whose looking for a family to call my own. If you are looking for that special girl I may be the one. I promise to make you happy %9D%A4%8F! If you ... Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Dobby is dedicated and loyal to her person. She is in need of someone who is strong and knows they are the leader. She loves to go on walks in the woods and does well When she is the only dog around. She has been working on being less excited on the leash around other dogs. She needs a fenced in yard becuase she loves to run!!!! Playing fetch and tug o war are some of her favorite activities. My current living situation has forced me to leave her with my ex husband who said he would care for her but it's clearly not working out. I fear that she is not being properly socialized or givien the opportunities she needs to be the best dog she can ... (Read More)be. I know she will have poor kennel presence and just want my dog to be happy. She may take some time to train with a new person but her level of love is so worth the work. Dobby is a large dog persons dog, she can tell if people are nervous around her and sadly her enthusiasm can be a bit much. The vibrating collar is her main form of training and she is very responsive to it. I have only had to use the shock feature once. She will come with her vibrating/ shock collar and it's corollary and charger, leash and her toys. (Less)

High energy happy fun 2 yr 8 Mos old dog that loves to run and play fetch . He gets constipated if he doesn't run daily. Needs a 6 or 9 foot fenced in yard. He is too smart for his own good and can open doors and can jump 6-7 feet high and possibly open crates so I have used zip ties and recently dog leash snaps as they are quicker and resusable. He loves everyone and loves other dogs but wants to play so much that he doesn't understand when the other dog is tired or doesn't want to play with him. He humps other dogs and I'm not sure if he would defend himself or understand if a dog was attacking him. Therefore he needs a safe loving ... (Read More)home with a 9 foot secured wooden fenced in yard and be an indoor dog and have people possibly other sum issue pets to play with. He is housebroken and doesn't chew anything but his own toys. He does jump counters if he sees his toy up there. Although I've been trying to rid him of that bad habit. He's a happy very loving dog and needs a happy family with a house and a large 9 foot fenced in back yard (where he can't escape) he used to dig holes when he was under a year old - not sure if he still would. He knows sit, lay down, stay (briefly), speak, roll over, backup, (go to your) crate, now. , he catches treats in his mouth. He likes watching tv, loves large dingo dental sticks and rawhides and deer antlers. I love him very much but I have no yard and he needs to run a lot daily and I can't offer that for him. I want him to have a loving and active family that plays and runs with him. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Luna needs someone patient and an experienced dog owner that will give her the guidance and direction that she needs. She was set up for failure at a young age, likely due to neglect, and needs a fresh start. Luna suffers from separation anxiety. She is skittish around new people and shows some aggression with new people until she warms up to them. She needs a home with experienced dog owners who have lots of time to spend with her & play with her. Luna is a very smart dog who needs some patience, understanding and forgiveness while she adjusts to being shifted around. An active person that can work on her training and building her trust is ... Rescue Me ID: 17-08-06-00396Harley (male)

Lab    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Harley 5.5 year old male Labrador Retriever - neutered big boy.. weighs 85 pounds and may be a tad underweight. Harley has been in foster care in this area for about a month now and has really learned how to share with the 5 other dogs. He is learning how to play also! Harley could go to a home as an 'only dog' but we feel that he would do fine with another, younger playful dog in the house. Harley does have some resource guarding but his trigger seems to just be in the kitchen with 'people food'. Easy enough fix - keep him out of the kitchen or keep him crated during meal prep and eating. with toys/chew bones with other dogs. It's ... (Read More)random and not all of the time but it happens enough that his kitchen time needs to be limited/monitored if there is another dog in the house. If there is no other dog then there shouldn't be any problems. Harley is NOT GOOD WITH CATS. Harley has been around children as young as 3 but not for an extended period (only a couple of days) and he did fine. However, we feel he would be best in a home with older children (12+) because of his resource guarding and he will 'mouth' still, especially when you are trying to put his harness or leash on or when you want him to move and he doesn't want to move. I will not place him with a family that will be adding children in the future because he has already paid the 'baby price'. Harley is fully house and crate trained. He knows several basic commands and walks decently on the leash when there are no other dogs on the walk. If there are other dogs, he will pull more because he wants to 'compete' with the other dog. He is not leash reactive when other dogs are around but he will try to chase critters (squirrels, rabbits, deer) so you have to be alert and watch for these things so you can see them before he does. He is a STRONG boy and will require an experienced handler on walks. Harley is a wee bit of a spoiled boy. He learned early in life that he could do as he pleased so we are working on behavior modification and he's picking things up fast. He does try to test boundaries (like counter surfing or chewing on things to get attention) so he will need firm leadership and not a permissive owner. He will try to get away with as much as possible. Harley's recall is so-so and he could not be off leash at this time. He will need a physical fenced yard or to be on a leash when outside at least until he bonds with his new people and they work on recall with him. Harley would do best in a stand-alone home as he will bark when he hears things. He would especially love a home with a pool :) or on water where he could go for a swim daily. He LOVES to swim. Harley needs an active, physically fit family willing to walk/run him at least twice a day. He's getting about 6 to 7 miles a day right now. A family with a runner would be even better Up to date on vaccinations (combo, rabies, bordatella, Lyme), micro-chipped and neutered. Looking to place Harley within a 3 hour radius of Washington, DC. Application form: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/E53LXc4bsw6r997fuK4 We have an application process, home visit, vet reference check and if close enough, a 2 week trial period before proceeding with an adoption if the trial period is successful. PIease Read Before Adopting a Lab in Maryland
Lab Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs. Labs can adapt to apartment life with sufficient daily exercise but do best with a decent sized yard.

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Maryland Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
