Animal ID: 7729Harry Potter (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Vaccinations Current

Meet Harry Potter! Harry was born around 10/21/17 and appears to be a Lab mix. He's currently 12 weeks old, 11 lbs. and a delight! He just arrived at his foster home with his sister, Ginny, and is getting to know his new surroundings. Harry is a playful pup who enjoys playing chase and tug with his sister. He settles nicely on his own to chew a toy and enjoys a lap to take a nap in as well. He knows 'sit' and to wait politely for his food and treats. He continues his potty training and does well on a schedule - especially outside first thing in the morning and after meals, and uses puppy pads overnight or when outside is not an option. ... (Read More)Harry is an affectionate pup who enjoys adults and children he's met as well as the larger dogs in the home. He's also not shy about letting you know when it's time to feed him or he needs attention! See videos of him in action here: https://youtu.be/0qmfE8irsSY https://youtu.be/Q81x5sEiigA https://youtu.be/YnQM1wz7aJM https://youtu.be/QnqxoEAE-zQ https://youtu.be/M4_KXVuZy2o https://youtu.be/PHRD4hDsMJ8 Harry will be available to go home on Monday, January 22nd. Apply to adopt this sweet little fella today! Due to his small size and young age, we recommend that he goes to a home with children that are respectful of his size and age. Because he is a baby, he will require an adopter who is not out of the home for more than 4 hours at one time to continue his training - no exceptions! He is up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines and will need to be altered at the appropriate age per the spay/neuter agreement you will be signing at the time of adoption. Please note that because he is so young, he has only received 2 sets of the required 3 sets puppy vaccinations. This is very IMPORTANT because it means that his immune system will not be fully functioning until about 18 weeks of age. He MUST stay out of public places where he could be exposed to the germs of many other dogs for another 3-4 weeks after he goes home. These no puppy zones include all pet stores, dog parks, and for apartment dwellers, areas used by other dogs. These requirements are strictly for the puppy's medical safety and longevity. (Less)

Animal ID: 7691Jeez Louise (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Jeez Louise!! A 2yr old, 60lb shepherd/lab mix. Louise was found chained up in a backyard in NC surrounded by broken glass. Her story gets even more sad.... she gave birth in that dangerous backyard. Her puppies were not provided proper nutrition, but like a good mom she nursed until she was rescued and the puppies were provided the puppy food they needed. Two of her babies have been selected by Semper K9 to be service dogs to returning vets. I think it's safe to say her babies got their brains, love and extremely good looks from their momma! In her foster home, Jeez Louise is housebroken, crate trained and learning house manners. So ... (Read More)far, she has perfected 'sit', is learning to stay, walk well on a leash and to not get so excited when company comes. Louise has never met a stranger. She loves everyone and everything she has met. Louise is fostered with several dogs ranging from small to large and both male and female with varying temperaments. She is also fostered with children as young as 2 years old. She LOVES children, but does prefer they love on her than play with their toys. She likes to sit on their toys so that they have to pet her! If Jeez Louise seems like the dog for you, be sure to apply quickly! (Less)

She needs a quiet home that is laid back and doesn't have a lot going on so she can spend her golden years relaxed and happy. She is 9 years old so she gets a joint supplement. Animal ID: 7007Bahama Momma (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Aloha! I am Bahama Momma! I am just like a sunset on the beaches of Hawaii. Beautiful and relaxing! You see, I am old enough to be past that crazy puppy phase but not too old to have a good time with. At the ripe age of 7, I am potty trained, trustworthy, and very mature; yet I still love to play with frisbees, ropes, and squeaky toys! I have mastered some commands like, 'sit', 'paw', and 'lay down'. I enjoy those long walks on the beach as well and do great meeting strangers. I prefer to take it slower with unknown doggies but it never takes me long to warm up. I'm working on my figure this winter to be really bikini ready next year. ... (Read More)Currently sitting at around 50 lbs. I am also spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and current on my preventatives. Animal ID: 5095Rowlf (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rowlf turned 2 years old this August and he weighs about 57 lbs. Check him out playing with OPH's Dubble Bubble in the video link! We know his mother is part Labrador Retriever. We believe he's also part Doberman. But, there is probably some hound in there, too. He's a great mix of some fabulous breeds! Rowlf was adopted out as a puppy to train as a therapy dog. Alas, like many dogs, he had a different skill set not meant for therapy work. OPH wants to be 100% sure we find the perfect forever home now. Friendly with people he's met with his foster family in the home and on the go. He has lots of energy and gets easily excited but can be ... (Read More)shown how nice it is to be lazy sometimes. He is super smart and knows basic commands. He's learning heel and doing well. Rowlf rides nicely in the car and follows direction well in public. He is housebroken and settles into his crate nicely. He has been very respectful of household rules and has controlled himself well around counter tops and is easily re-directed from the furniture. Rowlf LOVES treats which makes training super fun for him. He has a couple of best friends in the canine world. Rowlf loves to play but he doesn't always know when to stop playing so he will need a play partner who can give him good signals. Rowlf has a strong prey drive towards cats and will need a home without them. That said, with a good handler on the leash he has walked by cats and donkeys, and sniffed noses with horses without an issue during walks. In the yard, as long as the critters stay on the other side of the fence he is happy to leave them alone. Rowlf is a handsome boy looking for his forever family to give his love to. (Less)

She can be dog selective-probably because she had to fight to get food. She plays well with foster's neighbor's female dogs, but doesn't seem to like males. I am a bit shy but with some time and patience I will warm up to you and your family, just like I did with my foster family. I am really starting to enjoy just being a dog. Foster Mom likes to snuggle with me, Foster Dad likes to feed me yummy treats and my foster pack likes to play and sometimes snuggle too. It took me a bit longer to warm up to the dogs in the foster home. Because there are a lot of them and they are used to strange dogs, so they were ready to play as soon as I walked in ... Foster mom says that if you are interested in adopting me, you should know that I am crate trained and house trained, very quiet- I rarely bark, I like to chew on nylon bones, AND I like people once I get to know them! This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Prefers low-key submissive dogs as friends. *Cat untested - she isn't much of a chaser and would likely do fine with a cat **NOT recommended for families that live in apartments Note: Nubbs came to OPH worried about strangers. She continues to take some time to warm up. Once she knows you, she is in love. In her foster home, she loves being lazy, enjoys time in the backyard, and loves walks. This beautiful dog is such a loving companion. She simply needs a home with owners who will keep her away from other dogs, particularly when not on a leash. She ...     Application form is here: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/E53LXc4bsw6r997fuK4 Our process: 1. application form 2. vet reference check 3. home visit 4. meet the dog (most times done at the same time as the home visit) 5. trial period 6. formal adoption if trial period is successful Harley's MUST HAVES: 1. stand alone house. No shared wall dwellings. He will alert on noises that are unusual and will bark. His bark is loud. 2. fully physical fenced yard that is at least 4 foot tall. No underground fences or electric fences. He has a high prey drive. 3. preferably an only pet in the house. Harley has some resource ... (Read More)guarding with other dogs. He guards food/toys/and favorite people. He gets along better with female dogs than other males. Best with no small animals - no little dogs, no cats, etc. He does not guard resources with people. 4. experienced handler that is physically and mentally strong. Although Harley is pretty good on the leash, his high prey drive sometimes makes it difficult to walk him in areas where there is wildlife - squirrels, rabbits, deer (or stray cats) He is not leash reactive on walks though. He's fine with other dogs, people, bikes, cars. 5. active person or family willing to get him out for at least 2 walks of 2+ miles each time every day, rain or shine. Harley needs to be exercised. He is a high energy boy and needs the mileage to wear him out. He loves to swim so a home with a pool or on a body of water would be ideal for him 6. someone around a fair bit. Harley would not do well being left home alone for more than 5 to 6 hours at a time. Harley will be 6 years old in January. He is a large, strong boy weighing 85 pounds and is taller than a typical Lab. He is fully house and crate trained and has recently earned enough trust to be left out of the crate when no one is home. He is a typical velcro Lab that wants to be by his people at all times. He's a great nap buddy and loves to cuddle on the couch. While Harley has learned to co-exist with the two other Labs in his foster home, he can be a jealous boy and doesn't like to share so he would be best as an only dog. for more information and pictures, please contact Donna Stock at mcmahod@yahoo.com (Less)

The good news is that he is very intelligent, food-motivated and wants to please. He's already making great strides in the short time he's been with his foster family. He is house trained and crate trained. He's good with people and and other dogs but is nervous at the introduction. Because of his anxiety, we don't recommend a home with young children. lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Maryland Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
