Rescue Me ID: 16-08-20-00304Tiny Tim (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Tiny Tim. I'm 4 years d and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound by my owner because he moved and couldn't find a place to keep me. I am currently in foster care, so if you're interested in adopting me, please call the pound so they can set up a meet and greet. I get along great with other dogs and even cats. I will sleep in bed with you, or in a crate, or wherever you need me to be. I am housebroken and a good boy in the house. I am currently being fostered with 2 female dogs and we all get along great. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption ... (Read More)fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-14-00576Olivia (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Olivia. I'm 2 years old and I weigh about 40 lbs. The pound received a called and came out to the place where I used to live. They said I was being neglected, but that really doesn't describe my terrible life I've had up until arriving at the pound. At my old house, I lived outside in a kennel. It had deep mud and my only escape from the mud was my old dog house. I was bred every heat cycle to make my owner more money, because according to him, a dog who can't be bred 'ain't worth ****'... It was obvious that my underweight, frail, flea-ridden body couldn't handle birthing and raising litter and litter of babies like that, ... (Read More)but I did because I had to. My owner did relinquish me to the pound, so I can now be vetted and adopted to a loving family who will keep me in the house with them and love me forever even if I can't make puppies anymore. I am a sweet girl. I can be a little shy at first but I warm up fast. I get very scared if someone raises their voice or moves too fast. I would benefit from a lot of socialization and positive training. I get along good with the other dogs that I have been around here at the pound. I should meet any dogs that are already part of your family to ensure we get along prior to adoption. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adoping me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. Great dog for someone with no small dogs or cats. She loves to cuddle especially at night. She won't leave your side. She takes a little to warm up to new people but she loves anyone. She has never been near kids so she does not know how to act around them. The only reason I am giving her up is because she cannot get along with the small dogs and cats in my house.

He recently had a seizure in the beginning of May and another on July 4th. Bet says they can't do anything until they become more persistent. The reason I am looking for a home for bear is because I recently had a baby and he doesn't do well with him or my nephew that comes over. He is not vicious, I just don't want to take the risk. He has never bitten anyone either. So please help me find a good home for him!

Public hours are Monday ... (Read More)through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

'LARRY' is a uniquely good looking, sweet and fun 4 month old Lab mix boy whom we rescued, with his pretty yellow Lab Momma and siblings, from a very high kill pound where they were slated for euthanasia due to overcrowding. (We do not know who the 'Daddy' was, but we believe a Catahoula Leopard Dog, based on nose markings and the very interesting and good-looking 'marbeling' on his back). Larry is a character who loves to play, but also is a tenderhearted 'snuggler'. He has been de-wormed, is current on vaccinations, on monthly heart worm preventative, micro-chipped, crate-trained and is getting better with house-training. Larry is NOT ... (Read More)neutered as he is too young (and ample research has shown serious later health issues due to premature neutering/spaying of companion animals). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition. He has been de-wormed, is current on vaccinations, on monthly heart worm preventative, micro-chipped, crate-trained and is getting better with house-training. Hagar is NOT neutered as he is too ... (Read More)young (and ample research has shown serious later health issues due to premature neutering/spaying of companion animals). 'ANGEL' is a precious, beautiful, loving, 'doe-eyed' 4 month old Lab mix female whom we rescued, with her pretty yellow Lab Momma and siblings, from a very high kill pound where they were slated for euthanasia due to overcrowding. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

'MAJOR' is an AWESOME boy and wants to be your best friend ... terrific with kids, adults and other doggies alike. Major is a 1 yr old, 50 lb. Lab/Border Collie mix ... a great combination of breeds; especially for a family with kids. Major does well with other doggies of similar happy, gentle and playful disposition; he is a bit intimidated by very rambunctious male dogs, so pairing with a female canine companion would be ideal. We saved Major from a very high kill shelter; Major was on the euth list due to being 'low heart worm positive'. Heart worm is a very treatable condition but expensive, so many rescues will not pull a HW+ dog. We ... (Read More)couldn't let this fantastic boy be killed so Major underwent the 'fast kill' treatment method for heart worm and is now is ready to become somebody's best buddy! (He will need to remain on once a month heart worm preventative for the rest of his life, which should be standard for all dogs). Major is neutered, current on vaccinations, house-trained, and crate-trained. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is Mocha. I'm around 3 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs (I'm quite hefty for my size). I was found as a stray in the Rogers area by some Sheriff's deputies. I was at the intersection of 2 very busy roads. I was lost and limping pretty badly on one of my front legs. They called the pound and one of the girls met them and picked me up. I was seen by a vet and had x-rays done. There wasn't anything broken. I also had a heartworm/ lyme test done and it was negative. The vet thinks that all of my pain is from a muscle in my shoulder, possibly torn or sprained. I am a VERY sweet girl. I love everyone I meet. I am wonderful with ... (Read More)both adults and children. I am very fun and playful like a young dog should be, but I am also pretty well mannered and obedient for the most part. I get along well with other dogs of all sizes as long as they're friendly towards me. I was definitely a house dog in my previous life. I never mess in my kennel or in the office, which is a good indicator that I am likely housebroken. I LOVE to curl up next to you on the couch and give you kisses too. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me! Our adoption fee is $120.00. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of ... (Read More)Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic (Less)

Adoption Pending. COBY is a wonderful 8 year old, 68 pound black Lab mix male who was adopted from a shelter about 8 years ago, when he was just a few weeks old. His family had to move for a new job and was not able to find a place that would take a large dog, so they asked our help to find him a new home. His previous family had this to say about Coby. 'He is house trained and even keeps the barking to almost nothing while inside. He is very friendly and he loves children. We have a 6 year old that has grown up with him, and an 18 month old that is his best friend. He is very patient and will tolerate lots of poking, squeezing and love ... He is neutered and up to date on shots.' Coby tested positive for heartworm but his previous family has sponsored his heartworm treatment which he will complete around July 16, 2016, after which he will be ready for adoption and we expect he will be heartworm free. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Coby if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion.     Meet Betty! Betty is a lab/shepherd mix, about 6 years old, who came to the shelter from a hoarding situation. We don't know how she is with cats, but she is good with most other dogs. She likes to play the chasing/pouncing game, enjoys walks, is good on the leash and loves to take in all the smells. She keeps her kennel very clean at the shelter, so we think she would be easily house-trained if she isn't already. She can be shy on her first meeting with new people, especially with men and children, but it doesn't take long at all for her to warm right up (treats always help :)). Once she likes you though, she LOVES you, yet she isn't clingy ... (Read More)and will happily go off to do her own thing as well. She would love to go to a home, perhaps with another dog, where she can go for lots of nice walks and snuggle on the couch after. Could you be her person?     Storm 1-2 year old lab/boxer Mix Female Storm is a 2 year old spayed female lab mix who is looking for her forever home! As most of her puppyhood was a cycle of getting adopted and returned to the shelter for being 'too hyper', Storm needs someone who can continue to teach her good canine behavior. Storm is a moderate to high energy lab who needs that special someone to help her learn what is inappropriate puppy behavior. After a long walk or letting her get her zoomies out in the backyard, she will settle down in the crate for a good while. She bonds very quickly and is very smart (sometimes too much!) and has learned the commands sit, ... (Read More)lay down, stay, leave it and come. However, she still has that boundless puppy energy and will jump/mouth new people in excitement. Once she bonds with you though and you show her your boundaries, she's very respectful and loves a good petting/brushing session. Like most labs, Storm is food motivated which makes training her much easier. She would be a great candidate for 'work' activities like agility as she loves to please. Once you get the treats out and start asking her tricks, she gets very attentive towards you. Her favorite toys are chew and rope toys. Storm is also house and crate trained. Storm does have a bite on her record - though as it was explained to me, the older couple that had adopted her were attempting to pry something out of her mouth. The couple did not receive any medical attention but Storm was still designated. Storm has not attempted to bite anyone while in foster, however, when excited she will exhibit puppy mouthing behavior which can be stopped by making her sit. Due to her size, energy level and requirement for continuing basic training, the foster recommends an experienced owner and a household with no children or cats. Storm shows positive interest in dogs, however is very pushy (much like the rest of her manners!) and until she learns to calm down more we recommend no dogs. Storm is looking for her forever home and her adoption fee is $200. (Less)

Dolly is a 7 year old, 70lb, hound/lab mix. She has been spayed, current on shots, heartworm negative, and on monthly preventative. Dolly is a total sweetie. She is laid back and eager to please. Rescue Me ID: 14-08-26-00558Walker (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

WALKER is a Chocolate Lab mix male who was rescued from deplorable conditions with fly bites on his ears. He was highly heartworm positive due to the fact that his previous owner left him outside and did not provide heartworm prevention. Walker was treated for the fly bites and underwent the fast kill for heartworm elimination. He is now happy and healthy and enjoying his life and freedom outside a disgusting outdoor pen and inside a foster home. He thinks he's a big puppy and wants to play with other dogs but he does not get along with every male dog he meets, especially if that male dog growls at him or tries to show dominance. For ... (Read More)that reason, we think he would be best in a home with a female dog or as an only dog. He is curious about cats and will chase them and we are not certain of what he might do if he actually caught up with one so, for that reason, we think a cat free home might be best. He is gentle with people. He seems shy at first around children and adult strangers and may give out a low, tentative bark, but he is very friendly and affectionate once you indicate the person is safe and once he has a chance to get to know them. He loves to play tug and keep away with rope toys. He loves to give kisses. The only things he hates are flies (and maybe male dogs who growl at him)! He wants to please his humans and seems eager to learn and easy to train. He is crate trained and house trained. He is 5 years old and weighs 54 pounds. He is current on vaccinations and neutered. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Walker if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue to cover at least some of the cost of the veterinary care he has received. (Less)

lnteresting Lab Trivia Low-Cost Ohio Spay & Neuter Clinics
Labs have very gentle mouths and can even carry an egg without it breaking. One rescue lab named Jake helped dig through burning debris at Ground Zero to find people trapped after 9/11, and later helped with rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. The Labrador Retriever is by far the most popular dog in the U.S. Labs are descended from St. John's Water Dogs. Labs became popular in nineteenth century England.
