Mia is an 22 month old old black brindle and white Mountain Cur/Lab pulled from local animal control when they became overcrowded. She was pulled when aobut 6-9 months. She loves other dogs and plays well but is not a fan of small unfriendly dogs. She does better with male dogs than female dogs. Her best friends are Zeke, Casey and Sammy with Lifehouse. She was cat friendly in the first home she went to but she was only about 9 months old then and hasn't really been around them since. She loves everyone. She is searching for a forever home and would love to be in a home with another dog who likes to play. We recommend she be in ... (Read More)a home with kids over 7 as she is larger and playful. Animal ID: 17-05-21-00449Rowdy (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rowdy is also a 2 year old, male, but the polar opposite of Jinx. He looks like a medium to large size dog, a black lab face and coat and a docked tail. My guess he he is around 45lbs. He is very sweet and enjoys people and play. He doesn't like being alone and would benefit best in an environment where he is constantly around people or where he can reside with a higher energy companion dog. He's immensely curious about everything he runs across but also cautious. He has not been temp tested in a large number of scenarios and it takes him a while to warm up to new things. He has spent significant time with our personal female lab, with Jinx, ... (Read More)and with our 12 yr old daughter. I have not witnessed any issues with his interactions so far. I think that Rowdy would benefit greatly from a family that has a high activity lifestyle that will help him exert any unwanted energy or stress. This and basic training will also help give him a confidence boost. Extra stimuli that result from exercise, explorations, and engaging new people and pets, in moderation, will also benefit his overall well being. This week he also goes to the doctor to be fully vetted. (Less)

Animal ID: 17-05-20-00392LILLY (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lilly! This sweet pooch was found as a stray with what we certainly suspect is her puppy and from the looks of her tea-bag dinners, there were other puppies at one time and who knows what happened to them. The finders adopted the puppy but kept this pooch until we could get her into rescue. Lilly is blind in one eye but has a nice personality and is calm for her breeding and enjoys people. She is fearful and timid with overly pushy dogs and seems to appreciate dogs who are not in her face or overly playful. She can be cautious of strangers, but loves treats and all nice things and warms up very, very quickly. We have reason to believe ... (Read More)this dog was tied up and was simply untied and told 'go away' and that is very sad. But, she is a nice pooch who is looking for a nice family. She is housetrained, enjoyed attention from children, and really likes being in a car. We are guessing she is about 1 year to 1.5 years old and will make a nice pet for a family. Animal ID: 17-05-20-00382MCGEE (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

McGee was an owner surrender because he loves chickens and ducks. He REALLY loves chicken and duck. Yes, he is a high black lab mix, but he wants all the birds for himself. McGee is an active dog with lots of things to do and would appreciate a home where he can stretch his legs. He likes children but not in the same way he likes poultry so that's a good trait. McGee is good with other dogs and would do best with an active playmate because a lazy dog might not appreciate his energy. He also prefers the lady dogs to other boys because he wants all the girls to himself. McGee is neutered, but unfortunately tested positive for heartworms and is ... (Read More)being treated. Animal ID: 17-05-20-00375MACK (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Mack is about 5 years old and is a Border Collie/Lab mix. He was originally adopted as a baby and then had to come back because he was not happy about the new human baby in the house. It confused him and he wanted to bark at it because it was odd. The family returned Mack as a result. Mack has a big bark and can be a talker about new people or new dogs, but he isn't a yappy type of dog. He loves to play in his exercise run or the play yard and loves to get visitors in his outside area. He has never shown any type of bad behavior with older children, but tiny, tiny humans freak him out so older children would be best. Mack is a terrific mix ... Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Kip is a black and tan chubber who was left behind on his steps when his family pulled away with their house. You read correctly - the family pulled their mobile home out ,but left the front steps and their dog. Kip waited on the steps for 4 days and no one came back for him. The mail carrier noticed the family had left and kept waiting to see if they came back for the dog, but they did not. So, the mail carrier started making calls to get Kip into a rescue. Kip is about 4 years old based on his teeth and has a lot of playful energy. He loves to play with his blankets and stuffed cloth toys. Kip loves to ride in the car and sits really well ... (Read More)while looking out the window. Kip doesn't like being picked up by his belly for some reason - he is sensitive on that part of his body. He will get into a car fine on his own if it isn't too monster high, but any lifting must take place under his rear end. We don't know if he has had an old injury or old trauma to his belly that makes him sensitive to that part of his body? He was great for his vet exam and unfortunately, but not surprisingly, tested positive for heartworms. He is being treated however. Kip seems to prefer the lady dogs to male dogs and is a nice combination of playfulness but not hyper and certainly enjoys a post-playtime nap. While we do not know if he was an inside dog before his house was removed, but Kip does not do his business in his kennel and will hold it until he gets outside. If you are interested in Kip, please ask for an application! (Less)

I have a 3 1/2 year old female lab mix - she was a a surrender from another family. We were 'babysitting' her for a friend who was trying to find her a home (our dog had died a couple months earlier ) She is a great dog - we have figured out her allergies (fowl and fish) and she is on a great diet of Venison and no more problems (had been an ear scratcher). She is fabulous with all people of any age. She is good with some other dogs - plays - but some she plays a bit aggressively - so we tend to be cautious with that. She has learned to play a little with a rope - but does not balls. Thing is she is a bit bigger (50lbs) then we are ... (Read More)used to and have toyed with putting her up for adoption while she is still young and has a chance to find a good home with a yard to run! She right now is able to go in and out of our house to a small fenced yard through a doggy door. She loves walks - but needs to be leashed as she will dart after a rabbit, etc and try to run to see other dogs. She is fully house trained and up to date on all shots. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jinx is a very laid back, two year old, playful style will melt your heart. He's a gorgeous mix. His head is undeniably boxer. He's black (small splotches of white), short fur, with a docked tail. We think there maybe some black lab in there. He's tall and between 50-60lbs. He is great with other dogs of all sizes but he does not care much for any of our bossy dogs. He completely loves people and truly thinks he's a lap dog. He is your dream come true if your in search of a real cuddle bug. He never seems to have a bad day. He as content as possible with whatever is going on. He would prefer to be close to you as often as he can be but he ... (Read More)also behaves well in a crate. He's housebroken and doesn't jump up. He is great on care rides. Jinx is also intelligent and a quick learner, who responds very well with both positive affirmation and with treat rewards. He will need help learning his basic commands but he has passed with flying colors the adjustments necessary to life in a family foster home with a dynamic pack. He has not been tested with cats or small children but I have not witnessed any fussing, fear, or anxiety from him. So, it would not surprise me if he was good in all settings. This week he goes to the doctor to be fully vetted. (Less)

His previous owner thought they had found a new home for him, but he got loose and was injured. Thankfully, he was found and is now safe in a foster home with the rescue. He has a wound on one leg that is healing and, once that is healed, he will be ready to find his forever family. His previous owners tell us that Maverick is a good dog who was well-behaved inside the house. He had a place that he knew was his and he would stay in his place. He also knows certain commands including sit, down, roll over, and ... (Read More)play dead. When outside however, Maverick chased the neighbor's chickens at his previous home and so, to keep peace, his owner had to keep Maverick in the house or on a chain when in the yard. They wanted Maverick to have more freedom and fun, so they asked our help in finding Maverick a new home, one without chickens in the area. Maverick is fully vetted, current on vaccinations and neutered. He will be microchipped prior to adoption. He weighs 71 pounds. He has been on monthly heartworm prevention. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Maverick if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue to cover at least part of the cost of the veterinary care this dog has received. (Less)

This dog showed up at my house in December. He has been neutered, vaccinated, checked by vet. Took two weeks for me to get my hands on him. Will do anything for ANY food. NOT good with chickens or cats (which is why he cannot stay.) Probably would be better in a more structured environment. You will have to provide me your ID and a recommendation from your vet. My vet records are available to you. She believes him to be a full blooded lab.

PRECIOUS is a perfect name for this playful mixed breed female (possibly shepherd/Lab/pit) who is now facing another month without a forever home. Thankfully, she has a good foster home, but would love to have a home and family all her own. She is sweet and loving and just wants to be with her humans. She is good with children as well as adults. She likes to cuddle and gives good hugs. Besides being with people, she loves to eat and can be food driven. We would recommend she have her meals separate from any other dogs. An even mix of white and black with spots on her ears and a black patch over each eye makes her a very cute pup ... (Read More)indeed. She is 4 years old and weighs 78 pounds. She is HW negative, spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She needs to be in a home without cats. She knows 'sit' and is good on a leash. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Precious if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue to cover part of the cost of the veterinary care she has received. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-01-00153JohnBoy (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

JOHNBOY is a nice, very sweet and friendly Lab/Bully mix. He is even cuter in person with great eyes that you cannot help but love. He likes to walk right beside you matching step for step. He would make a great companion. He is between 4 and 5 years of age and weighs around 60 pounds. He enjoys people very much and is good with both adults and children. There are 4 kids (boy and 3 girls) ranging in age from 8 to 16 at his foster home. We have also observed him with younger children and he was fine. He just has not been around them as much as he has been with the kids 8 and above. He sleeps in a kennel but has a lot of time out with ... (Read More)the foster family during the day. He is leash walked and has play time both with the fosters and also time in a fenced play area. He does not seem to get along with most of the other dogs at his foster home, but he has been fine when he has been in situations like at the vets office where he is around other dogs on leashes. We think he reacts to being in the kennel and is better when he is not needing to be confined. But we do think he would do best as an only dog and, as with any dog, we recommend caution when introducing two dogs to each other. He is muscular, athletic, and at times even acrobatic. He has been known to jump out of some of the fenced play areas at his foster home so, when his foster is not able to be outside with him, she does put him in a covered area. He is also leash walked at times so leash walking would be a nice option for him to get some exercise. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is heartworm negative. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Johnboy if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. She would do well with a younger animal that can equal her play or an older stable patient one. She is very intelligent and responds well to training.

He is neutered, UTD on shots, HW- and on prevention, and on preventive flea meds. He will also be microchipped. He would love to be adopted with his cell mate. So if you will consider adopting 'Sarge' as well, we will lower the adotion fee.

Animal ID: 7723Jeffery (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MY ADOPTION FEE HAS BEEN FULLY SPONSORED FOR AN APPROVED ADOPTER!! Please come out to the shelter to meet me or for more information! Meet Jeffrey! He is a Neutered Male, Lab/Shepherd mix. He is Approx 2.5 yrs old and weighs 43 lbs This guy has it all -- good looks, smarts, fun personality, and a charming smile. What he doesn't have yet is a home of his own. He came into the shelter unwanted and scared. But after a few months of love and consistency, he's out of his shell and ready to find his 'perfect' home. For Jeffrey, the perfect home would be one where he could be with his people the majority of the day, and where there is a secure, ... (Read More)privacy fenced area for him to run and play. (Jeffrey is very smart, and can figure out how to climb over 4' and 6' chain link fences, and unlatch gates). He would be fine as an only dog, but would also not mind a doggie companion as long as he can be fed separately. Jeffrey would excel as a guardian of property and family, and would thrive with positive reinforcement training to help him reach his full potential. Potential adopters need to meet Jeffrey in person, and possibly have multiple 'meet and greet' visits, as he doesn't warm up to strangers immediately. After several visits, and treats, he will make the decision that you are a 'friend' and allow you to interact with him. Our shelter staff and volunteers adore Jeffrey, and will be working hard with potential adopters to ensure that he goes to his perfect 'forever home.' (Less)

Maryanne is a beautiful black and white Border Collie/Lab mix. She is a bit chunky, but she can run like the wind! She is very affectionate and loving with people, but she is selective when it comes to dogs. Her approximate date of birth is March of 2008, so she's not exactly a young girl. She has spent most of her life at Rescue, after she and her brother were tossed over the shelter fence in the middle of the night. She has known great love here but little else. We believe she deserves more than that, we believe she deserves to be a part of a family and we hope you will, too. If you would like to adopt MayAnne, please apply online ...     Can you believe I was found running down the side of a highway. So many cars passed me by, a few almost hit me but no one stopped. I was very thin, hungry and weak, my paws were sore and raw but still I continued to run, looking for someone, anyone that would help. Finally it happened, I was saved!! It was a day I will never forget, the food was so good, the blanket was so warm...the gentle touch of human hands...and I was given my very own name....LIAM....best day of my life!! Now I have to tell you, I love my food, I love it a lot, I love to be fed treats and snack from your hand BUT I don't like anyone's hands in my food bowl and I will ... I am up to a perfect 37 pounds and even though I'm not running for my life anymore, I still love to run, I love to run just for the joy of living life and for being safe and loved. If you have a ball in your back yard and you need a doggie to come play fetch with you, look no further and when we are done we can chill out on the couch and take a nap. Don't forget my name is Liam, I'm 2yrs old and I am waiting for you. I am neutered and UTD on my vaccinations.     My name is Ringo, although I'm not sure if it's because I'm such a rock star or if it's because I have rings on my beautiful tail! I lived on my own for a long time, and several people tried to catch me. Most of them weren't successful, but one young lady managed to snare me. She took me to the vet, and I was vaccinated (ouch!) neutered (whose idea was that?), and loved (YES!). I stayed at the clinic from October until December because there was no place else for me to go. I was a bit shy when I first arrived there, but the vet techs played with me when they could. Since coming to Red Fern, I have made many, many friends, both two-legged and ... (Read More)four. I am great with kids too! I'm no longer at all frightened of people, and I can't wait to belong with someone special. As a bonus, I enjoy walking and am good on a leash. The people at Red Fern tell me every day how much they love me and what a good boy I am. They say I am a calm and happy boy! I know that someone is going to say, 'That's the boy for me!' very soon, and I'll be packing my bones and heading out. Today could be that day! Ringo's adoption fee is $200.00. If you are interested in becoming Ringo's person, please submit an adoption application. Someone from Red Fern will contact you and answer any questions you have about Ringo. Thank you! ***This beautiful dog is currently in a shelter but has received full vet care and we will provide FREE volunteer transport to a foster or forever home'|please don't let that stop you from adopting! We are accepting applications to adopt each of the Tennessee dogs listed so they can get out of the shelter. **Rural Animal Rescue Effort is a foster home based rescue - we do not have a shelter or kennel facility nor do we have regular hours when our companions can be seen. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Well, hello! My name is Samson, or 'Sammy' as they call me. I've been through a lot of my short three years of life but I have had some great experiences too. I was first rescued from a dog pound where I had only a short time to live if I wasn't rescued. I was only about 18 months old at the time. Then I was adopted by a family, which was great! Unfortunately, one of my human siblings (a teenager) had some health problems and would tease me with human food and other things, not realizing what she was doing. I know it wasn't her fault, but it started to cause me to start to be very upset when she would drop food to tease me and then pick it ... (Read More)up to not let me get it. I didn't mean to be aggressive with her, but I just wanted her to let me eat the food she was dropping for me, so I bit her. I didn't continue to bite because I wasn't trying to hurt her, I was only trying to get the food that I was so confused about. I know this is not acceptable behavior and I feel terrible about it, but I was so confused. So, even though I have been excellent with children before, the rescue folks say that I need to be in a home without them because of this incident. I want nothing more than to be with a family, maybe on a farm or a nice fenced yard that I can play in and just enjoy a peaceful life. I am about 3 years old (as of 5-3-17) and weigh 70 pounds. I am good with some dogs, but not with others, so RARE will test me with each dog individually to make sure I get along with them. So, no, I'm not perfect. However, I am worth it. I am a stunning black lab mix and I love people and have had consistent positive experiences at my current foster home. If you would like to meet me and find out if I could be your best friend, please apply for me at RuralAnimalRescueEffort.org. After you complete our short application, RARE will call you to discuss meeting me! *****AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT ARE REQUIRED!***** Please visit www.RuralAnimalRescueEffort.org for foster and adoption applications or for additional information. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-31-00079Sammie (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Sammie, or as we call her, Sam, is a spirited girl at 16 months old. She's made great strides in a year, from being scared of everything to being more interested in the big world. She's a happy, loving girl who loves to play and run with her dog companions. She likes having a companion dog to go outside with and rough and tumble with. She has become the typical teenager, talking back to her humans when she feels she has something to say. Her 'roo-roos' are comical and it's hard not to laugh at her vocalizations. She also likes to grab you with her paw to get your attention, meaning she's trying to tell you something. Sam has been learning ... (Read More)manners and sits nicely, making eye contact, for her meals and treats. Still in need of some leash training, she wants to pull and wander a bit on walks. She likes her walks, and rides in the car quite nicely. Still a bit shy in meeting strangers, she will warm up to them if they offer her a treat. Sam is house trained and kennel trained and is quite willing to go into her kennel with just a 'kennel up' command, but she really likes a peanut butter stuffed Kong, too. She weighs 48 pounds and will probably not get any bigger. She does well with small and large dogs and, though still interested in cats, does not hurt them other than to want to mouth them. A simple 'leave it' command works to curb her interest. Sam is well-mannered and has learned many commands. All she needs now is someone to call her own. (Less)
