Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Roo! I am only a little over 1 year old Golden Lab/Golden mix and, if you give the chance, I may be the sweetest/most cuddly dog you'll ever meet. I may be large but I'm still just a puppy (and very exuberant) but if you have the energy to spend some time playing with and walking me I relax easily and just want to spend time curled up with you. I know the 'sit' command and sometimes 'stay' (depending on how excited I am at that moment); and I am super gentle when you give me those yummy treats. I'm a very quick learner and with an assertive and caring human I can be very mindful and polite. I get excited on a leash so those ... (Read More)who've spent time with me have noticed that an 'Easy-Walk Harness' is the best way to go. It helps to slow me down because I'm young and very strong when I'm looking forward to going somewhere. I LOVE to roll around on my back and have my belly rubbed! I am good with other dogs although probably best with younger friends who can keep up with me. I love the outdoors but my FAVORITE spot is with you (wherever that may be!) I am neutered, up to date on all vaccines. I can't wait to find my forever home so I can truly begin my great life!! Oops, I got so excited I forgot to mention that I am house trained'|. A very important thing! (Less)

I am a small version of a yellow lab! So sweet, quiet, kind, loving, playful, and very pretty. I was part of a letter that the people kept until all of us babies got bigger, then they did not want any of us so they took us to the kill shelter. The people from Big Dog Heaven found out, and did not want me to die, so they came and rescued me on the very day I was to be killed and now I am feeling happier, and ready to find my forever home. I am only about knee high and weigh only about 35 pounds. But I LOVE to play ball and Frisbee!

I'M EMMETT. WILL YOU HELP ME? My name is Emmett and I am living at a pound in a rural area of Tennessee. I keep waiting for a human to come and rescue me and take me to their home, but so far that hasn't happened. I live in a small run here and the days are long and boring. I dream of having my very own family with a yard and grass and trees. I hope my dream comes true, but I keep hearing that my time is almost up. I'm not sure what that means, but I don't think it's good. The truth is, there are so many of us pups who need homes that I am afraid there may not be enough homes to go around and I'll get left out. I am about 3 years ... (Read More)old (as of 4-4-17 and weigh about 50 pounds. As you can see I am solid black with just a touch of white on my chest. I heard someone say I was very handsome. (RARE said they would help with the instroductions in my foster and/or adoptive home just to make sure it is the right fit.) My adoption fee is $125.00. Will you make my dreams come true? Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PRECIOUS is a perfect name for this playful mixed breed female (possibly shepherd/Lab/pit) who is now facing another month without a forever home. Thankfully, she has a good foster home, but would love to have a home and family all her own. She is sweet and loving and just wants to be with her humans. She is good with children as well as adults. She likes to cuddle and gives good hugs. Besides being with people, she loves to eat and can be food driven. We would recommend she have her meals separate from any other dogs. An even mix of white and black with spots on her ears and a black patch over each eye makes her a very cute pup ... (Read More)indeed. She is 4 years old and weighs 78 pounds. She is HW negative, spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She needs to be in a home without cats. She knows 'sit' and is good on a leash. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Precious if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue to cover part of the cost of the veterinary care she has received. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-01-00153JohnBoy (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

JOHNBOY is a nice, very sweet and friendly Lab/Bully mix. He is even cuter in person with great eyes that you cannot help but love. He likes to walk right beside you matching step for step. He would make a great companion. He is between 4 and 5 years of age and weighs around 60 pounds. He enjoys people very much and is good with both adults and children. There are 4 kids (boy and 3 girls) ranging in age from 8 to 16 at his foster home. We have also observed him with younger children and he was fine. He just has not been around them as much as he has been with the kids 8 and above. He sleeps in a kennel but has a lot of time out with ... (Read More)the foster family during the day. He is leash walked and has play time both with the fosters and also time in a fenced play area. He does not seem to get along with most of the other dogs at his foster home, but he has been fine when he has been in situations like at the vets office where he is around other dogs on leashes. We think he reacts to being in the kennel and is better when he is not needing to be confined. But we do think he would do best as an only dog and, as with any dog, we recommend caution when introducing two dogs to each other. He is muscular, athletic, and at times even acrobatic. He has been known to jump out of some of the fenced play areas at his foster home so, when his foster is not able to be outside with him, she does put him in a covered area. He is also leash walked at times so leash walking would be a nice option for him to get some exercise. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is heartworm negative. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Johnboy if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit rescue to cover part of the cost of the veterinary care he has received and a microchip. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00471Bo (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Bo came to us in a sticky situation. His owner answered the door with Bo on a leash. On the other side of that door was a police officer. We believe Bo was agitated by the owner for him to nip the officer. Unfortunately, the nip drew a little blood and that automatically set him up to be sent to court. Bo has been with us for several months now and has shown no aggression and has not been claimed by the owner. Therefore, he's ready for adoption. Don't let his sticky situation scare you because this boy is very sweet and harmless.

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00311Scout (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Scout! I'm a 2-3 year old amazingly smart lab mix who loves to cuddle more than anything in this world. Even though I am about 50 pounds, I think I'm a lap dog. I am obedience trained and can sit, shake, give high fives, lay down, and roll onto my back on command. I am getting pretty good at stay, too. I still need some help with leash walking, but I am learning! I love to play with my humans and my cat brother and even though I bark at the door when people are outside, I love any adult who walks into the house and show them with kisses. I have pretty low energy requirements-I like one or two walks a day, but am happy just lounging ... (Read More)on the couch while my humans are at work. That being said, I love to run and play in the backyard too! When I came to my current family about 6 months ago, I had been kept in a backyard on a chain for my whole life. We weren't sure exactly what I would be like as a dog in a house, but I have done so well inside: I don't chew as long as I have toys to keep me occupied, I love lazing around on the couch, and I am completely house trained. What my current family has learned about me is that because of my anxiety and lack of socialization the first few years of my life, I have leash-based aggression towards other dogs, especially small dogs. Because of this, I will do best in a house with a backyard and not an apartment where all my exercise must be leash-based. Similarly, I have done well with older children (at least 8 years+), but I don't like the quick movements of small children and they make me nervous, so I would do best in a house without them. I have brought so much joy to my current family, but it is important that I find a home that can better accommodate my needs. My family is sad to see me go, but have worked hard with training me for the right forever home. My family says I would thrive with an experienced dog owner. Better yet, they say an ideal home would be with someone who loves to cuddle, has a big backyard, and does not have regular visitors that are young children or other dogs. I live with a cat now and I do great with him! I am up-to-date on all my vaccinations and will go to my new home with all my belongings (toys, leash, bowls, etc). I hope someone who has some dog experience and wants a cuddly friend will give me a chance to lighten their lives. My family said they are willing to drive several hours to get me to the right family, so please reach out even if you don't live in Nashville. I am excited to meet my new fur-ever family! (Less)

My name is SAMPSON and I have 4 days left to live as of Wed., 3/23/2017, unless a rescue pulls me. A male visitor took me out of my kennel. Another visitor lost control of her dog and it jumped in my face. I was pulled away and choked. I bit at the leg of the man who was pulling on me. There was no bleeding, just ruffled skin according to the picture, so I have some bite inhibition. I had never acted that way with the volunteers who took me out daily. Now I am locked in isolation. A bite of any kind is a death sentence at this shelter unless a rescue comes for me. I am a neutered male, black and white Pit Bull Terrier mix, probably mixed ... (Read More)with Lab.     We caution you, YELLOW's story is a sad one but we hope that won't stop you from taking a look. The green light to a happy ending for this sweet Yellow Lab mix male is just around the corner and he is almost ready to find a new home. It has been a long road to recovery since early February when local authorities were called to a home where Yellow had been attacked by a stray and was severely injured. The person caring for Yellow said they were not able to afford medical treatment for him. They agreed to surrender him and the rescue was contacted for help. During surgery to address what was thought to be injuries from the dog attack, the ... (Read More)vet found a bullet that had shattered near his lung. It is likely the gun shot wound made it impossible for Yellow to defend himself when attacked by the stray dog. He has recovered from these injuries to the point where he has been able to start the treatment needed to rid him of heartworm. He will complete that treatment in early April. He will be vaccinated and microchipped once he completes heartworm treatment and before he is adopted. Despite all that he has been through, Yellow is a happy, loving dog who is thriving in his foster home. He gets along well with kids, cats and other dogs. He loves to be held and cradled like a baby. Due to permanent trachea damage, he must wear a harness to leash walk. He pulls a little which we are happy, in a way, to see because that means he is regaining strength. He is crate trained and is working on house training. The vet estimates he is 3 years old. He weighed 44 pounds when first rescued and some weight gain is expected. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Yellow if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue to cover at least part of the cost of the veterinary care this dog has received. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ipsee is the ultimate lap dog. There is nothing he loves more than to cuddle, and will drop everything he is doing in order to be petted. Most evenings he falls deeply asleep sprawled on top of one of his humans on the couch. He will put up with almost any amount of manhandling as long as you are giving him affection. Despite all that, Ipsee isn't particularly needy. He likes attention and will follow us around the house sometimes, but is also good at entertaining himself with his chew toys as well. He'll knock his ball around for himself to chase if you aren't always available to throw it. Ipsee loves to play fetch, which is a great way ... (Read More)to tire him out more quickly than walks. He also loves being outdoors and going on hikes. However, as long as he gets enough exercise during the day, he's pretty content to lounge around the apartment if you're not a weekend warrior. Though Ipsee requires work like all other puppies, he is well behaved for his age. He knows 'sit,' 'down,' 'drop it,' 'stay,' and 'come.' He learns commands quickly and is eager to please. Mercifully, he hardly ever barks, unless there is a particularly threatening robin outside the window. Ipsee is mostly crate trained. We've only been working on it for a month, but he'll stay in the crate without whining or barking. He sleeps the whole night in his crate, and he stays there whenever he is at the apartment by himself. He does need a good bit of running around after he's been in the crate for an extended period of time, but he is a puppy after all. Ipsee usually plays great with other dogs, but can be a bit timid or overwhelmed at first if there are lots of dogs that are bigger than him at the dog park. He usually adjusts after a few minutes with some encouragement. Ipsee sometimes does not know his own strength with smaller dogs, so he might need some extra watching at first when he plays with a new friend. A home with other dogs to play with and a fenced yard to run around in. She is the sweetest girl and loves to be around her people! She gets along well with other animals and she absolutely loves kids. She is housebroken and crate trained and her crate can come with her. My other dog is going to volunteer as an emotional support animal and we will be gone quite a bit and Daisy cries and is so terribly sad and lonely when she is left by herself. ... (Read More)She is a social butterfly and absolutely requires a human or an animal friend or she is just too sad and I cannot allow this to happen to her any more. Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Obese, Fearful/Anxious

PLEASE PLEASE help me find him a new family soon. Mickey is a giant cuddler. He doesn't understand personal space. We have another dog (female) very good with her and grew up with our 3 kids (who were pre-teen and late teen ages). We now have an infant grand daughter and he loves her but he recently nipped a strange child who caused a scene in our house. We think he was protecting our baby because the girl was screaming around the baby. For this reason we have to re-home him per our leasing agency rules. With this all being said I would feel better if he didn't go to a house with small children. He is a giant lover. All he wants is to be ... (Read More)loved. He just wants you to play with him and Pet him. He will lay on the couch with you and loves to sleep in your bed. He is not crate trained and does not like the vet or groomers. He is house broken and does not have any food allergies. He loves car rides, he will just sit in the seat the whole ride. Loves going for walks but does tend to pull in the beginning. I would love nothing more then to stay in communication with his new family. I can share his quirks with you. Please contact me for more pictures. I can show you his love for his canine sister and his human sisters and brothers. Please give this big guy a chance. He needs someone who will love him and give him lots of exercise. I fear we will have to euthanize him soon if he doesn't find a new home. He deserves to live a long happy life. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tar Heel is a female lab mix found as a stray on Nashville Highway in Chapel Hill. She is friendly and has gotten better with strangers not being as afraid of them anymore. High energy and a barker! Came in with the male black lab Hawkeye so she may be related to him but not bonded. She will try another dog male or female so she is very alpha and needs to either go to a monitored no dog home or to rescue where she can be further evaluated and more slowly introduced to other dogs. A high energy environment like the shelter only aggravates her already heightened energy so she is our shelter tornado for the moment! She is very smart and will ... (Read More)try to sit for a food bowl but her energy won't let her. She does know kennel on command and so has a high drive and is food and treat motivated. Lots of potential for this girl in the right setting! She has been tested with the other dogs here lately, and she is better with males than she is with females. Animal ID: 7723Jeffery (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MY ADOPTION FEE HAS BEEN FULLY SPONSORED FOR AN APPROVED ADOPTER!! Please come out to the shelter to meet me or for more information! Meet Jeffrey! He is a Neutered Male, Lab/Shepherd mix. He is Approx 2.5 yrs old and weighs 43 lbs This guy has it all -- good looks, smarts, fun personality, and a charming smile. What he doesn't have yet is a home of his own. He came into the shelter unwanted and scared. But after a few months of love and consistency, he's out of his shell and ready to find his 'perfect' home. For Jeffrey, the perfect home would be one where he could be with his people the majority of the day, and where there is a secure, ... (Read More)privacy fenced area for him to run and play. (Jeffrey is very smart, and can figure out how to climb over 4' and 6' chain link fences, and unlatch gates). He would be fine as an only dog, but would also not mind a doggie companion as long as he can be fed separately. Jeffrey would excel as a guardian of property and family, and would thrive with positive reinforcement training to help him reach his full potential. Potential adopters need to meet Jeffrey in person, and possibly have multiple 'meet and greet' visits, as he doesn't warm up to strangers immediately. After several visits, and treats, he will make the decision that you are a 'friend' and allow you to interact with him. Our shelter staff and volunteers adore Jeffrey, and will be working hard with potential adopters to ensure that he goes to his perfect 'forever home.' (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Sheldon. Me and my brother Leonard are currently looking for either a foster or forever home, we both are living outside and even though the weather has been nice it is going to get cold soon, so we need to get inside ASAP. We have great parents, we used to live in the house with them and they have always given us the best care and lots of love. We are 3 years old, neutered, heartworm negative, UTD on our vaccinations and with a quick refresher course we will be housetrained again. The problem is, that our parents are seniors and due to health problems they can no longer keep us inside, that's why we are currently living outside. ... (Read More)They want better for us, they want us to live in a home again with a family because they say we are such good, smart, sweet boys and we deserve more than what they are physically able to give us anymore. Leonard and I get along great with each other but we don't necessarily have to be adopted together, we've never been around other dogs so we would need to be introduced properly if you wanted to take one or both of us home to another dog. Please apply to foster or adopt by visiting our website www.RuralAnimalRescueEffort.org An application and home visit are required. Once your application is received, we will call you and answer any questions you have. All animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines prior to adoption. Our adoption fees not only help the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need to be made available for adoption. Out of state adoptions are possible, and transport is provided at no additional cost to the adopter. (Less)

Maryanne is a beautiful black and white Border Collie/Lab mix. She is a bit chunky, but she can run like the wind! She is very affectionate and loving with people, but she is selective when it comes to dogs. Her approximate date of birth is March of 2008, so she's not exactly a young girl.     Can you believe I was found running down the side of a highway. So many cars passed me by, a few almost hit me but no one stopped. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

My name is Ringo, although I'm not sure if it's because I'm such a rock star or if it's because I have rings on my beautiful tail! I lived on my own for a long time, and several people tried to catch me. Most of them weren't successful, but one young lady managed to snare me. She took me to the vet, and I was vaccinated (ouch!) neutered (whose idea was that?), and loved (YES!). I stayed at the clinic from October until December because there was no place else for me to go. I was a bit shy when I first arrived there, but the vet techs played with me when they could. Since coming to Red Fern, I have made many, many friends, both two-legged and ... (Read More)four. I am great with kids too! I'm no longer at all frightened of people, and I can't wait to belong with someone special. As a bonus, I enjoy walking and am good on a leash. The people at Red Fern tell me every day how much they love me and what a good boy I am. They say I am a calm and happy boy! I know that someone is going to say, 'That's the boy for me!' very soon, and I'll be packing my bones and heading out. Today could be that day! Ringo's adoption fee is $200.00. If you are interested in becoming Ringo's person, please submit an adoption application. Someone from Red Fern will contact you and answer any questions you have about Ringo. Thank you! ***This beautiful dog is currently in a shelter but has received full vet care and we will provide FREE volunteer transport to a foster or forever home'|please don't let that stop you from adopting! We are accepting applications to adopt each of the Tennessee dogs listed so they can get out of the shelter. **Rural Animal Rescue Effort is a foster home based rescue - we do not have a shelter or kennel facility nor do we have regular hours when our companions can be seen.     Lab Dogs can make good pets in Tennessee if they match your IifestyIe. Labrador Retrievers are friendly dogs that are popular in multiple countries as family pets. Labs are friendly, playful, trainable dogs. Labrador Retrievers need companionship and are excellent with children and other dogs. Most labs are too friendly to make good guard dogs.
