Rescue Me ID: 15-03-02-00641Mya (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed

Meet beautiful Mya! This muscle-packed girl is barely over a year old and sweet as can be. Mya loves all dogs and is very gentle when she plays. She grew up in a home with a 6yr old girl but the family was forced to move so had to let this darling girl go. Mya is house-trained, crate trained, has basic manners (sit, come, wait, etc) and she's very quiet! She loves to go on long walks or hikes, or just hang out in a securely fenced backyard. She also loves car rides or to lounge around the house... preferably across your lap as you're watching a movie! Mya really is a wonderful family dog and would love another family of her own.

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bear is a 3 1/2 yr old Lab mix. Color-wise he could be a Rotti mix but color is the only thing. His body is a Lab; his demeanor is Lab...he's a Lab. What makes him so great? This boy was discovered at the Humane Society and was picked to be a 'Medical' dog. He was being trained to identify medical emergencies like seizures when the owner passed...thus the training stopped. BUT...the training he has had makes him a fantastically trained obedience dog who is extremely gentle with extremely good manners. He is patient and waits to be given instructions. This is a great package deal...everything you would want in a large dog...Including ... (Read More)size. He is 75#...a truly a gentle giant. He, also, is costing more to ship due to his large size. Although he came to me already neutered and microchipped...he did have a broken canine tooth that needed to be pulled. My vet did a fantastic teeth cleaning and tooth pulling job. Typically, as a rescue, we try to avoid treatments that are costly but this needed to be done. The cost for this procedure in Texas is half...or a third the cost in the GNW. We hope you will consider the fantastic training and medical care this pooch has had to get him to this point. Adoption Fee: $500 (includes all the medical, transport, vaccinations, microchipping, and health certificate.) If you are interested in Bear, text me your name, e-mail, and identify Bear (because I do have others) and I will send you more pictures and an application plus information on how we do the transport and any other questions you might have. Rescue Me ID: 15-02-28-00007Kato (male)

Lab    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kato was originally a Freedom Tails dog, earlier this month he developed an allergy to SOMETHING. It is possible he has a chicken/fowl or grain allergy as he was eating Nutri-Source Chicken and Rice. Kato went through a series of unfortunate events. His minor hair loss was treated with tea tree oil, something that is now advised against for dogs as some have had bad reactions. He proceeded to lose an enormous amount of hair so we pulled him from prison and plunked him into Willapa Vet. On the way to the vet, I noticed he was showing some bizarre behavior, extremely fearful and seemed to be hallucinating. Trippin' balls, to be honest. smile ... (Read More)emoticon He had been given Benadryl, and we are now advising he never, EVER have Benadryl again. Benadryl is normally very safe for dogs but we have since spoken with multiple veterinarians and behaviorists who have stated they have experienced adverse effects such as Kato's and up to death. The only way to prove this hypothesis is to dose the dog again, and this is something no ethical vet, behaviorist, or dog person will do. So folks, Kato is still in boarding with the vet, but he is ready to find his home, whether that is a foster or adoptive home. We will be carefully screening all fosters or adopters to be sure that he goes to an experienced home that is on board with feeding ONLY grain free food or a RAW diet. Kato is great with kids, dogs, and cats, and loves all people. He is 1 1/2 years old, a Lab mix, neutered and fully UTD on vaccinations. Please fill out an app here if you are interested in this sweet boy and we will be in touch. And please share! Rescue Me ID: 15-02-05-00340Bear (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bear is currently registered in the county we live in. I took custody of Bear to save his life. I was able to do this only by agreeing to take him into another county. He was going to be euthanized by the Police Department where he lived. His owners had neglected to train, neuter and properly contain him. Because they did not care for him properly he ended up getting himself into a little trouble. Bear has never shown signs of aggression, but because of his owners neglect to properly care for him he was labeled as a potentially dangerous dog. In the spring of 2014 Bear was being let out to go the bathroom when he ran across the street to ... (Read More)greet a kid riding his bike. In doing so he scared him and he kicked at bear. Bear being the puppy he was and the dumb dumb he is thought he was playing and he mouthed the kid on the ankle. In this incident he left a scratch. The small town police station where Bear lived wanted to label him as a dangerous dog and euthanize him. The thing was Bear didn't do this out of aggression or meanness. He was truly just trying to play. The police in the end could not label him as so though because the child's parents refused to press any charges. The Chief of police still wanted to euthanize Bear because he didn't want to release him back to his previous owners. You see because Bear had already been in trouble once in the past. He was charged with menacing and labeled as a potentially dangerous dog in 2012 because he had growled at a next door neighbor while in their yard. This neighbor didn't like bear because of his breed and come to find out later he was shooting a sling shot at him. This all didn't matter though because Bear had walked from his yard into their yard. In the report It was even stated that Bear never lunged at the neighbor or tried to bite. He never showed any signs he was going to do anything. But all because of his breed they still labeled him as a potentially dangerous dog. Honestly Bear is the most loving and affection dog I have had the chance to know. I would have never taken him in other wise. He was raised with and lived with 4 small children. He is great with other dogs. He does like to chase cats but in play. He doesn't seem to realize they don't want to play with a dog. Bear is kennel trained, up to date on all his vaccines and neutered. He knows all simple commands sit, down, drop, out. He is Chocolate Lab and Brindle Pit. He is about 2 to 2 1/2 yrs old. The only requirement do to his labeling from animal control is he has to be leashed at all times when in public and either leashed or behind a fence on private property. Their words were out of sight out of mind when it comes to his breed and people's opinions of it. He will also have to be registered in the county/city you live in. I love this dog and wish there were different circumstances, but I know I can't give him all the things he needs regarding time and energy. I can say I have personally taken him into public many times. I even took him to an Easter egg hunt with hundreds of kids around. I have taken him to the dog park many times. I have brought him to work with me. He has always been around children and they crawl and lay all over him. He is doing great even around my new born. Actually the most calm I have ever seen him. You could do just about anything to this dog and he would never respond aggressively. Bears problems lie with who his owners were and the lack of training and attention he received. He is high energy and extremely affectionate dog looking for his forever home. Please if interested in meeting Bear Private Message me. Tell me about yourself. Do you live in a house or apartment? Do you have a fenced yard? What other types of animals are in your family? How many people live in you home? Do you have children? Are you familiar with the breed? (Less)

This is a 9 yr old purebred, choc lab fostering to re-home. He is in very good health, good-natured, affectionate, and playful. The previous owner had collected livestock and several dogs, eventually leaving him to live entirely outdoors with a few others. He developed some 'pack' behavior and aggression with other dogs. He had early training, as a puppy, is now responding well to 'house-training', and understands basic commands. He is protective of kids and an excellent watch dog. We travel a great deal in our jobs and must find a home, or longer-term foster for this guy very soon.

We used to live on 5 acres (2.5 fenced), where our dogs had plenty of room to run. Last year, we moved to a lake with barely over 1/2 acre of property (only a small portion is fenced). Until recently, Scooby was content with the limited space, but has finally figured out that he can go out into the lake & wade over to the end of the fence. We can't extend our fence across the lake; therefore, we no longer have a way to contain him. Scooby is my baby, and a loving home is a must! We adopted him when he was 10 weeks old. He was chipped & neutered before bringing him home. We kennel trained him, and he was an indoor dog for the 1st 1-1/2 ... (Read More)years. When we brought home a 2nd puppy, we quickly realized that dogs playing with eachother in the house wasn't our thing, so we moved them both outside. We have a cat who hangs out with both dogs...he rubs his body against their legs & will sometimes curl up next to them to sleep. Scooby is great with kids of all ages, but does tend to get a bit hyper. He'll accidentally hit toddlers with his tail, or turn too quickly & knock them over. We walk with our 23 month old granddaughter when Scooby is near her, just to make sure he's being 'gentle.' When elderly people are walking outside, we kennel him, just in case he gets too hyper & clumsy. He doesn't bite, even when he's upset with people (ie: clipping toenails, shots, being poked & prodded). He does get agitated when random dogs walk near our fence line. His hair stands on end, he whines, and becomes territorial...the vet tells us he's just doing what dogs do...protecting his property. He's been boarded several times at McKenna Kennels & they tell us he's never had any issues when outside with the other dogs. (Less)
